- I'm not an admin here. But I can look if the article is vandalized and report the IP to WP:AIV. —DerHexer (Talk) 17:48, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I may be new, but...
editI can see how my edits may seem like vandalism, but I didn't realize how diligent this wiki had become in maintaining the status quo. I took a break from this for a couple of years, and boy, it has changed. Anyway, I have included comments for every good faith move I made, yet I still need to read Wiki Law for Dummies. Anyways, the point is; indirect links to fan sights that report on the opinions of what you could call non-fans should be a bigger red flag to the editors than the deletions of paragraphs that rely on the aforementioned sources. I know you can get into a routine, but you must realize that true vandals are crafty, and that it may be worth seriously looking into every 15th edit or so, to see if it's good. To serve the quo.
- There will be no problem if you always use the edit summary. Greetings and go on :), —DerHexer (Talk) 09:26, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Your Help
editI noticed you reversed some vandalism on Keenan Wellar I came across some very nasty stuff today on that page and did my best to fix it up. There was also some vandalism by I am sure the same person on LiveWorkPlay which leads me to believe there is some personal vendetta sort of thing going on since the pages are connected. I'm new to this and not sure how to monitor/correct without just checking every day.
My Edit Was To Prevent Vandalism
editMy edits to the Roger Billings article are to restore valuable content that has been developed over several years. The emotional attacks of recent edits are clear attempts at character assasination and are damaging to Wikipedia. It would be better if you would help protect this valuable and well established collection of information. Firewriter 13:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. Could you use the next time the edit summary? Thanks, —TheWizard (Talk) 22:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, this is regarding Daniel Smith's Wikipedia article. I am terribly sorry about whiping out the article--it was an honest mistake. The word "Buckee" (something like that) was typed all over the page, so I just thought I would delete it. Sorry for the mistake. I'm not even sure if I am supposed to write my apology here. I am new to this whole thing. Once again, sorry.
Careful!
editHi there - Just noticed your revert on Raymond Lee Oyler... I think it might have been more appropriate to delete the unsourced information rather than just rollback and accuse the author of vandalism... it seems they didn't know how to remove it themselves. MackSalmon 00:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- It's vandalism 'though it might be correct. Somebody who watches the article will correct it then. My "job" is it to revert vandalism, and this is vandalism. Or do you thing, it would be better to have this in the article? I don't think so. Good night, TheWizard 00:28, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- ACK. That's why there are talk pages. --Complex (de) 00:31, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- That's true, I only mention this because WP policy states that unsubstantiated biographical information should be removed - I don't see a sourcing for that info, and combined with that request I thought it inappropriate to accuse that author of vandalism - if they knew how to use a talk page I assume they would have done. Just a point of order, that's all. MackSalmon 15:07, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

You reverted this edit, where someone was creating a new page for the characters from the show as opposed to keeping them all in the main article. Just be careful in the future. Leebo T/C 18:29, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- It looked like vandalism without commenting it on the edit summary. Nevertheless, according to the GNU FDL it's against the copyright separating a page without mentioning the main editors. It would be nice, if you could report it on the correct site. I'm new on en.wp and don't yet know all your pages. ;) Greetings and thanks, —TheWizard (Talk) 18:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- You know what, you're right, about the GFDL. I'll have to research how page separations by characters are done. Leebo T/C 18:46, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Fine. On de.wp I delete the seperated page, revert the user in the main article and tell him, where he can find informations about the GNU FDL and so on. I think it's here the same. :) Thanks, —TheWizard (Talk) 18:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- I was referred to Wikipedia:Summary style#Other specifics, which states that it is okay to split up an article if the split between the articles is properly noted in the edit summary. I have done this for the articles in question. Sorry for the confusion :P Leebo T/C 19:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- On de.wp we have to write the complete history and article into the new one saving it. Then we delete everything but the text which should be separated and copy the history of the main article into the talk page. Thank you, —TheWizard (Talk) 19:26, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

editGreat job with the vandal reversion on the Thomas Edison article. The time stamp shows reverts the same minute as the vandalism, which spoils all the fun of the little scholars sitting in their school's computer lab. Vandal patrol
editHello TheWizard! On my watchlist I've seen that you are doing some fast vandal reversing. But I've also seen that on some articles you just reverted one edit by a vandal leaving the prior edits of this vandal unreverted e.g. International Space Station, maybe a problem with your configuration of TW? Anyway thanks for the good work and happy editing! --VirtualDelight 21:09, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your compliment. TW has—I think so—four reverts. There I used the faster one, which just reverts one version. Next time I should use the rollback buttons. Greetings, —TheWizard (Talk) 21:18, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

You reverted someone elses attempt to clean up vandalism on the Catlin Gabel School article. The teacher descriptions that referred to hellfire and immortality were clearly pranks, and removing them is not vandalism. 192.147.239.1 17:05, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

- Apology accepted. But, I do note from reading the other messages on your talk page that I'm not the only one complaining about inaccurate accusations of vandalism. You might want to think about checking edits a little more carefully before reverting them and warning people. In this case, even without an edit summary, if you had just stopped to read the text that was being removed then you would have realized that removing it wasn't vandalism. Just a thought. 192.147.239.1 18:39, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Vandalization of Dr. Phineas Waldolf Steel
editI am not attempting to Vandalize a page. It was a page that was up for speedy deletion due to lack of notability issues. I am simply attempting to re-write the article in a more encyclopedic fashion.
There has apparently been some serious issues with this page in the past. Though I am sure much of the problems can be attributed to people editing the page with blatant disregards towards POV and NOTABILITY issues, I begin to wonder if it is not also the case that administrators are attacking it with a great deal of fervor.
I will continue to edit it to the best of my ability to make it conform with the aforementioned criteria. Seary6579 22:50, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Do so. :) But please do not blank pages which are not in your namespace. Greetings, —DerHexer (Talk) 22:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

- I'm learning, too. Always. ;) —DerHexer (Talk) 23:16, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
I have added several links to outside interviews with the artist Dr. Steel to his page, along with links to reviews of his music, in an attempt to strengthen the notability issue. I have also tried to eliminate most of the POV issues in the text. Obviously this article is going to need more work, but I think it can be regarded as NPOV, informative, and notable enough to stay long enough to be improved by other users. How does one go about arguing a page NOT get deleted? Seary6579 15:08, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I was merely experimenting on the Bio because there was a lined box around half of the bio and I attempted to remove it, but I ended up removing the half. I knew something bad was to happen so before I did anything, I copied the info. When It did not work, I pasted it back as to not disrupt it. Perhaps you should get the facts straight. if you have the logs, please note that my story IS true. I don't know why there was a box there, and I'd rather not considering the attitude I am getting from you. Please review this. Thank you. Mr. Joel C.Y. Lau 05:27, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism by User:142.165.199.10
editDerHexer, well done with your report of this IP to AIV; I've blocked it for 24 hours. In the future, however, please ensure that you're using all of the warning levels found at Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace#Blocks and not just going straight to the highest level warning. Thanks, A Traintalk 19:57, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe that means he just doesn't tolorate blatant vandals? --24.136.230.38 20:11, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe so, but blocking of anonymous IPs is always a last resort. The 24 hour block that I imposed on that IP address may well have blocked a library, college or other public access terminal. The person making disruptive edits may have left that terminal, and a well-meaning editor might now be at that address. If we can get a vandal to stop by walking them through the warning levels (which works 75% of the time or more), then we keep that IP address available for constructive edits. Remember, one of Wikipedia's core goals is to be an encyclopedia that anyone can edit. For more info, see Wikipedia:Blocking policy. A Traintalk 20:18, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Then I'm doing 2000–3000 edits per day just reverting blankings here, because nearly no one other does it. I can't notice to myself all of my warnings. I've already problem to notice two ones. The pages are full of warnings and are never deleted, 'though they are by dynamic IPs. … Do you want fighting vandalism successfully and effectivly, or not? … Do you want people to watch the recent changes and it's not too hard work for them? Should they leave, 'cause regularies are stoping them from fighting vandalism? … On de.wp I block IPs for one or two hours if they are vandalizing and not if I talked to them four times, that they are doing a lot of sh*t. I think, one warning and one final warning should be the maximum for IPs do see, that they are wrong. This are three reverts, two talkings and one reporting. If you say, i have to respect your rules, you are right. I try to do this. But helping vandals to do their "job" is against my conviction. Greetings, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:19, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe you should take a second to read my reply to the anon IP above yours. A Traintalk 20:20, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Why don't you block blanking IPs for one or two hours? On de.wp it's the only way to stop IPs. They don't react on warnings and wear down the reverters. I love the wikipedia, it's like my family and everyone should edit it, if he's not vandalizing. If you are five, ten or more times reverted before you are blocked, you stop one time, yes. But it looks bad, if an outstanding person see blanked or vandalized pages they ask themselves, if wikipedia is really a good project. If they see, we allow vandals blanking pages, wikipedia loses its plausability. Do you want this? Do you want a lot of vandalism? Do you want huge histories of articles? I don't want to believe this. My heart hangs on wikipedia and every vandalized page is a stab into my heart. —DerHexer (Talk) 20:36, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, maybe. But, wouldn't that urge the good contributor to register an account? --24.136.230.38 20:25, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I just figured out the IP was registered to SaskTel. So, multiple users were using the account. But, like I said above, wouldn't that urge the users to register an account? Of course, there is always not having the time... --24.136.230.38 — Preceding undated comment added 20:28, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I blocked 10.000 people from Mercedes Benz for one hour because they used one IP adress. It's the problem of the company to fire those workers who vandalize here. —DerHexer (Talk) 20:36, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Accounts are all well and good, but as you know better than most, they are entirely optional. Everyone should be able to edit the encyclopedia anonymously if they wish; most users start out as anonymous IPs before they register an account, and those first few anon edits are what hooks people into Wikipedia. Leaving IPs unblocked as much as possible is important. A Traintalk 20:33, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- That's all right but not for vandals: They are (nearly everytime) away, if they were blocked for one or two hours. —DerHexer (Talk) 20:36, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe you should take a second to read my reply to the anon IP above yours. A Traintalk 20:20, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
I will follow your rights but it hurts everytime I see a vandalized page. But don't wonder if sometimes there is no one who wants to fight vandalims here. If it continues like it is at the moment, I feel gloomy about the future. :( A sad and demoralized —DerHexer (Talk) 20:44, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hexer, don't be demoralized. You're doing a great job and ought to be quite proud of the work that you do here. But don't take vandalism to heart quite so much; it's not that big of a deal. All it takes is for someone to revert it, and vandalism is usually gone within minutes because of hard work from people like you. Don't let it get to you. Thank you for all of your effort. Yes. The current St. Marys Academy and College has no connection with the original St. Marys College. I did something similar yesterday
editYou put a speedy delete tag on User talk:172.206.146.118. I did the same thing accidentally on a userpage yesterday myself. Originally the editor made a regular article page which I correctly speedy tagged. Yesterday I looked back in my watchlist saw he recreated it not looking that it was called the same but a user page now as well and I incorrectly speedy tagged it. An observing editor mentioned it to me and it was removed. Don't know if similar has happend to you but I took the tag off the talk page (can't speedy that) and just deleted the obscene word that was put there for pretty much no reason but to be a vandal. See you around. Thanks for your time. --Xiahou 22:15, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

editReversion of vandalism can be a thankless job, so first let me just say thank you for the hard work. editListen, I don't know who you are and why a message showed up to me on my computer - something about vandalism and Kobe Bryant and a threat to stop...??
Um, I have far better things to do with my time than discuss Kobe Bryant with anyone. All I know about him is he is a sports player and I guess he was accused of rape or something a while back? I don't even know - oh right, BECAUSE I DON'T CARE.
So whatever you have assumed, let me correct you - you don't know what you are talking about because it was not I who even looked, let alone wrote anything, regarding Kobe Bryant.
What's more, I don't even have an account. I mean, let's be real here.

Please slow down
editIt's great to see your enthusiasm, and your assistance in new page patrol is appreciated. However, may I suggest that you slow down a bit so that you don't make so many errors. It is often a good idea to review previous edits in an article#s history log so that you don't restore to a previous bit of vandalism (as you did here [3].
Also, if you did not revert an edit, please review the reverting editor's style to see if they are in the habit of leaving warnings or wait a while to see if a warning is forthcoming before warning the user who introduced the change. The reasons are:
- irritation factor - other users are irked when the warning they are issuing results in an edit conflict.
- unfairness - the user being warned may be unfairly saddled with 2 warnings for only one misdemeanour.
Once again, thanks for the sterling work, just don't spoil it by being in too much of a hurry. Regards LittleOldMe 17:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Just a note - everyone goes too fast. I once had to point out to _four_ different experienced editors that over a period of months they had restored the same vandalism over and over. Sometimes I go to the bottom-most 'revert' on the history listing and compare with my chosen revert point, just to see what I might be helping to stay in the article. It might be the apostrophe bandit, or just a deletion that no one saw. But I go slow... and fall behind. But if you see more than one IP in the history, please do be sure to check. (BTW: I can't believe they didn't block User:Ol33 after the first time!) Shenme 18:05, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- I look if two IPs made edits in a row and check this. But I mainly trust in blue users. ;) Sorry, I'll try to check this, too. If I didn't revert it but left a warning there, I got an edit conflict because the user was faster. I'm not randomly talking to users. ;) That warnings are doubled happens to me, too, 'cause you don't delete talk pages from dynamic IPs as we do in de.wp. The consequences you can see here. To the unfairness: Better safe than sorry (if a user really vandalizes). ;) —DerHexer (Talk) 18:26, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Please slow down Mr.Wizard, you are making our jobs to fight vandals even harder and you are setting such a high standard for vandalfighting..hehe..Please Continue..Cheers..--Cometstyles 16:50, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, Hexer - give vandals a chance ;). If you're too fast maybe they will leave forever - then you'll lost your job ;). Marcus Cyron 11:29, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

AIV on 199.176.181.4
editThank you for making a report about 199.176.181.4 (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. —dgiestc 18:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- The user vandalized after my final warning. —DerHexer (Talk) 18:25, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Those appear to have the same timestamp so it's not clear the warning was recieved before the vandalism. —dgiestc 18:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- I know. The IPs are allowed to vandalize article in the same minute? I don't believe it. Is it more important to look at the timestamps than on the edits? I reverted two times, I warned two times, now there is a third vandalism. I think it's clearly that it was a vandalism after the final warning. —DerHexer (Talk) 18:30, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Turkey vandals
editNo need to warn those guys, several sysops are watching that page and blocking the socks on sight. Keep on reverting, though, good work :) – Riana ऋ 18:37, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- If I don't or just two or three times warn IPs, users and so one it's not correct, too … look at my page. But if it's a permant vandal I report him recently to the AIV. Thanks, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:49, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

My, my... Aren't we the quick one?
editYou've beaten me to about five or six incidents of vandalism by now, by such a short margin of time that WP software doesn't catch is as an editing conflict. My reversion just sort of disappears.
Of course, by the time you've read this I'll have nailed the next one while you've been reading this. Distraction for the win! Cheers, Lankybugger ○ Yell ○ 19:40, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
not really trying to create a distraction...
editI thought I might just create a distraction like above by doing the following:
by the way, this isn't a reason to give up! you're doing a great job! Stwalkerster 19:56, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. :) I'm using WP:VF and WP:TWINKLE. I'm not an admin here, but on de.wp where I got a lot of experience fighting vandalism. ;) —DerHexer (Talk) 20:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
