The Tea Leaf - Issue One - Recent news from the Teahouse

Hi! Welcome to the first edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

Spring has sprung! Stop by the Teahouse for a cup of tea under the cherry blossoms.
  • Metrics are out from week one. Week one showed that the need for Teahouse hosts to invite new editors to the Teahouse is urgent for this pilot period. It also showed that emailing new users invitations is a powerful tool, with new editors responding more to emails than to talk page templates. We also learned that the customized database reports created for the Teahouse have the highest return rate of participation by invitees. Check out the metrics here and see how you can help with inviting in our Invitation Guide.
  • A refreshed "Your hosts" page encourages experienced Wikipedians to learn about the Teahouse and participate. With community input, the Teahouse has updated the Your hosts page which details the host roles within the Teahouse pilot and the importance that hosts play in providing a friendly, special experience not always found on other welcome/help spaces on Wikipedia. It also explains how Teahouse hosts are important regarding metrics reporting during this pilot. Are you an experienced editor who wants to help out? Take a look at the new page today and start learning about the hosts tasks and how you can participate!
  • Introduce yourself and meet new guests at the Teahouse. Take the time to welcome and get to know the latest guests at the Teahouse. New & experienced editors to Wikipedia can add a brief infobox about themselves and get to know one another with direct links to userpages. Drop off some wikilove to these editors today, they'll surely be happy to feel the wikilove!

You are receiving The Tea Leaf after expressing interest or participating in the Teahouse! To remove yourself from receiving future newsletters, please remove your username here. Sarah (talk) 16:03, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to your new responsibility - Newbie welcoming and facilitation on behalf of WikiProject India!

We welcome you to post of volunteer coordinator for Newbie welcoming and facilitation on behalf of WikiProject India! This volunteering is really important as thousands of Indian editors join Wikipedia day-by-day and do not find any help or interaction from WikiProject India. This task needs vision, guidance and direction and most of all young and passionate blood.

Your appointment has been announced on the India Noticeboard and on the wikimedia-in-en mailing list. I strongly encourage you to join the wikimedia-in-en list, if not already done. Feel free to approach the community for any cooperation you need.

Though the initiative has no formal task force page/WikiProject earmarked as of now, you are welcome to get advice, recruit friends and build up the inrastructure you need. We are with you all the way. All the best for your new labour of love. Have fun & do great work. AshLin (talk) 05:24, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Inviting users!

Hi Debastein. I was so happy to see that one of the editors you invited to visit the Teahouse made a profile today in the guest section! Woo! I did notice two things though: #1 you did sign the Teahouse invitation template #2 you didn't post in the invite document that you invited User:Biku1992. It's really important that during this pilot that we document all of the editors who are invited. You can find a link to the document here. Any issues with it, please let me know :) Thanks again! Sarah (talk) 18:04, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Ok, was not aware of that, updated the spreadsheet. Will be inviting a few editors tomorrow also. --Debastein (talk) 18:17, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
Deba, this is important from WikiProject India point of view too. Please do it to the best of your abilities. Any help you need from us, let us know. Keep up the great work, :)! AshLin (talk) 08:25, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I've been putting two templates. Check here. Trying my best, a little overburdened with exam prep right now. --Debastein (talk) 08:39, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Great work & a suggestion!

Thanks for the new template, Deba! It works very well for established editors. Perhaps we could come up with a more cutesy, friendlier template for inviting newbie editors to WikiProject India? AshLin (talk) 08:22, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Should I go ahead and replace the template or wait for more input? --Debastein (talk) 08:35, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Go ahead & add it to the template list on WikiProject main page. :) AshLin (talk) 08:38, 20 March 2012 (UTC)   Done -Debastein (talk) 08:49, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
