Orphaned fair use image (Image:Disilvio-masque.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Disilvio-masque.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:Crowbar-obedience.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Crowbar-obedience.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ElinorD (talk) 16:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Crowbar-timeheals.jpg

edit

I have tagged Image:Crowbar-timeheals.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Malmsteen-7sign.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Malmsteen-7sign.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Disilvio-doubleshadow.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Disilvio-doubleshadow.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Proposed deletion of Rich DiSilvio

edit

The article Rich DiSilvio has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No legitimate assertion of notability. Once the extensive, mostly unsourced with some promotionally sourced text was removed, there's nothing left. Periodically despammed and stubbed, but regularly restored by an SPA, and I don't see a salvageable version in the history.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Warning - Rich DiSilvio

edit

If you reinstate another version of this BLP without attempting to comply with WP:BLP and WP:RS policy requirements, I will request that your editing privileges be suspended and that the page be deleted as summarily as possible. You've been editing for about a decade and can certainly be expected to have at least a minimal understanding of basic policies. The Big Bad Wolfowitz (aka Hullaballoo). Treated like dirt by many administrators since 2006. (talk) 21:56, 13 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

==Hullaballoo, This BLP has been online for, as you say, about a decade without incident, until your rash deletions yesterday and today. It adheres to NPOV, Verifiability and contains NOR and has Reliable Sources. So what exactly offends you? DVed (talk) 22:24, 13 August 2017 (UTC) User:DVedReply

==NO reliable resources? It cites Wildside Press, Amazon.com, AllMusic.com, NJ.com - all are "reliable independent resources." Granted, the one item you mention is valid, so the non-free book cover of The Double Shadow that this artist/author created for another author will be eliminated, but books covers of his own books can indeed be utilized. Therefore, I will not include that one book cover, yet this BLP in all other aspects has been fine for over a decade and does cite plenty of reliable independent resources. As such, it must be re-posted. 69.112.24.112 (talk) 23:01, 13 August 2017 (UTC) DVedReply

Files listed for discussion

Some of your images or media files have been listed for discussion. Please see Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2017 August 14 if you are interested in preserving their usage.

Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:57, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Marchjuly, yes, an explanation as to the significance and why these covers were included has been added to the Smith bio page. thanks DVed (talk) 10:54, 14 August 2017 (UTC) DVed— Preceding unsigned comment added by DVed (talkcontribs) 19:54, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately the content you added is all unsourced promotional sounding text that does not really comply with WP:NPOV, WP:NOR and WP:V, so I have removed it. Any interpretations you add to articles need to be supported by citations to independent reliable sources. This is especially the case when trying to add non-free content to articles. The file's use are being discussed at the FFD discussion linked above. You are more than welccome to explain you reasons how you think their use meets all ten free non-free content criteria listed in WP:NFCCP. You probably should take a look at Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in image deletion discussions for reference before doing so however just to familiarize yourself with how these discussions tend to work. In any case, please do not remove the Template:ffdc from the image's captions as long as the FFD discussion is ongoing. They will be removed by the administrator who closes the discussion.
Also, you probably should take a look at Help:Introduction to talk pages/1 and Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines to better familarize yourself with how to properly use talk pages. You seem to be having trouble formatting your posts. Talk pages are how we as editors communicate with each other, so it's kind of important to be able use them correctly. It's also improtant to know who to properly sign your posts. There are a couple of ways to do this, but the easiest is probably just WP:TILDE. On your user talk page, making formatting mistakes and not properly signing your posts is not good but it's probably not going to lead to any serious misunderstandings. On article talk pages or Wikipedia noticeboards, etc., doign such things can cause confusion and lead to serious misunderstandings, especially on threads where lots of people may be posting. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:26, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
In response, perhaps only one of the book covers was necessary, yet I put two because the Smith page showcases 7 old covers and not a single new one. There should be some balance, and to show how contemporary publishers are trying to rejuvenate interest in Smith's writings with new artwork. Anyhow, here are the official ten pillars in response.
These non-free book covers have…
  1. No free equivalent
  2. they will not replace the original’s market role
  3. a. We can opt to keep "The Double Shadow" cover and eliminate "Maker of Gargoyles" if need be
    b. the full cover, like those of others on the page, should be utilized, not just a portion
  4. the copyright owner/artist gave permission to use it as a non-free book cover. If you need verification, you can email him directly at rd@richdisilvio.com
  5. it meets Wikipedia content standards
  6. the artist owns the copyright and is aware of this intended usage
  7. image(s) are used in one article only
  8. it will increase reader’s awareness, since only old covers are presently posted, and there happens to be 7 of them and no new covers. It also makes readers aware that new editions are in fact being printed for their enjoyment or collector needs
  9. it is only in this article
  10. Year of copyright needs to be added to Image Description page
DVed (talk) 19:14, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. If you wish to argue that the files be kept in the article, the place to do so is in the aforementioned FFD discussion because that is where the files' non-free use is being discussed and where a consensus regarding their use will be determined. Before you do so, however, you might want to take a look at WP:DISCUSSAFD and the top of WP:FFD for some suggestions on how to best do that; the advice given in that section also can be applied to FFD discussions. FFD is a community discussion page, so you need to be careful with how you post things format wise, etc. so as to not accidentally disupt the discussion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:10, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
