Welcome! edit

Hello, Cyber Update Squad, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Anomali, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Thanks for this feedback. I am not quite understanding how to submit something for review before posting. In this case, I want to request that a addition to an existing entry be reviewed prior to posting it to the entry. Can you advise on how to? Cyber Update Squad (talk) 18:05, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi, if you don’t have a conflict of interest with Anomali, then there’s no need to get edits reviewed before making them. You can be WP:BOLD and make the edit directly to the article. It’s possible someone might come by and revert or revise your edit, but that’s a normal part of editing Wikipedia. Since it’s nearly impossible to memorize all of Wikipedia’s guidelines and policies, they should let you know (either in the edit summary or on your user talk page) why they undid your edit, and what policy/guideline to pay attention to in the future.
If you do have a CoI with Anomali (e.g., you’re an employee, contractor, etc.), that’s when suggesting edits without personally making the edit comes in. Every article on Wikipedia has a talk page (e.g., Talk:Anomali) where editors discuss improvements/changes to the article. This is the place where you can suggest edits. This guide provides simple instructions for suggesting an edit: Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request
Please let me know if you have any questions, and welcome again to Wikipedia! POLITANVM talk 18:16, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thans POLITANVM< for your reply. I also requested a change to my user name as I can see how it could look as if it a multi-user account when it is in fact only me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CyberUpdateUser (talkcontribs) 18:57, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

June 2021 edit

Hello, I'm Mikehawk10. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Anomali have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. — Mikehawk10 (talk) 04:54, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mike - Thanks for the feedback. I would very much like to bring this in line with Wikipedia's standards and this is most helpful. I want to address a few items and determine if it would help. "Microsoft-hosted": I imagined that was a valid citation, given MSFT's recognized leadership in the space, but when eyed with your comment in mind I can see the issue for certain, It's been removed. "Open Source Intelligence": this is an important element of the threat intelligence process and well accepted among technical practitioners and the cybersecurity community in general, it denotes freely available threat intelligence curated and published by trusted threat intelligence analysts, which can be used by anyone in the cybersecurity community to mitigate cyberthreats/adversaries/breaches. There are several references on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_threat_intelligence, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_intelligence), but they are both flagged as well so I wasn't sure if it was best to use those; there are external notable sources that can be cited, but they are outside Wikipedia. I removed the reference to "open source" in the hopes that it will help. BTW - I originally posted this on the Anomali talk page but believe it was supposed to go here.
