Hi, Crvst, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

Additional tips

edit

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

PS: This is not a bot and you did nothing to prompt this message. This is just a friendly welcome by a fellow Wikipedian.

Thessaloniki

edit

It's not my responsibility to edit all and sundry pages here merely to not look "suspicious". I edit Thessaloniki because the city is close to one of my hobbies. I have no interest in Skopje or Istanbul. If you've been around for more than a few minutes here on WP, you should know that making large changes to a page requires consensus on the Talk page first. Removing content is often considered vandalism. CRCulver 21:51, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The exhortation to be bold does not mean ignore other users or the need for dialogue once objections have been raised. The comment you left on my Talk page suggests that you feel that the obligation to defend edits and seek consensus on Talk pages does not apply to you, and so your contributions continue to suggest vandalism. CRCulver 22:45, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Crvst, the current state of the article is the result of a compromise on the talk page. If you would like to change that, please get a consensus first. Thanks, Khoikhoi 22:23, 24 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also please familiarize with the three-revert rule, which states that no one can revert an article more than 3 times in 24 hours. Khoikhoi 22:27, 24 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK. Yet, the article has to be checked by other WP editors who are unbiased about Thessaloniki and have edited articles about other cities/areas/etc. I have no time left today: could you (or anyone who edits the Thes. article) please call such other editors over to talk and decide about the name? Crvst 22:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, you might try opening a request for comment. Also, I just wanted to point out that having historical names in city articles is a common pratice on Wikipedia. You will find similar policies in other areas which have been governed or populated by many different language groups over time. For example:
  • Sibiu (IPA: [si'biw], German: Hermannstadt, Hungarian: Nagyszeben) — in Romania
  • Lviv (Ukrainian: Львів, L’viv [ljviw], German: Lemberg; Polish: Lwów; Russian: Львов, L'vov; see also other names) — in Ukraine
I think it is a good thing to represent all the history of a place, not just its recent history. Khoikhoi 23:01, 24 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Alright, um you requested my help i see. What is the problem here, could you fill me in? r9tgokunks 22:56, 24 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
