Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, ColoradoSDx. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Software-defined networking, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 13:29, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

  Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "ColoradoSDx", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it may represent "SDx"Central, a "Colorado"-based site - all usernames must only represent individual personal accounts. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 13:36, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you GermanJoe for letting me know! It was the first thing I could think of... I'll just create a different account for any future editing.

  Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. [1] Deli nk (talk) 13:40, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

  Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to KT Corporation. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. GermanJoe (talk) 14:19, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

  You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link, as you did at 5G. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. Apologies GermanJoe, sincerely didn't realize I had violated the policy with what I added. Thank you for letting me know, it won't happen again. It looks like the bad links were already removed from the pages, thank you for your help. ColoradoSDx (talk) 14:48, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello ColoradoSDx, thank you for your message and acknowledging the problem. Assuming you are connected to the site in some way, you are welcome to suggest such changes on the articles' talkpages though if you genuinely believe they add non-promotional encyclopedic information from a reliable author (you'll find more details in WP:COI). Just don't add such links yourself in case you have a possible conflict of interest. Thank you for your consideration. GermanJoe (talk) 14:57, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. TheSandDoctor Talk 03:58, 27 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
