Today you edited this article with AWB. Most of the changes make sense to me but I am wondering about the changes to the "Cite web" templates that removed "Future plc" as the publisher for Cycling News. |publisher=in these cases is in line with the guidelines at Template:Cite_web/doc#Publisher. It doesn't add anything useful to the citation. In the unlikely event that a user wants to know who the publisher is, that information is available in the cyclingnews.com article. I just really want to understand and follow procedure going forward. I tend to include all possible information in cite templates, being as complete as possible in the interests of verifiability. And when you mention that "in the unlikely event that a user wants to know who the publisher is, that information is available in the cyclingnews.com article" that is true now but it could change in the future. - At the link I provided, it says "Publisher: ... Not normally used for periodicals" Cycling News, whether in print or online, is a periodical. The key question here is whether specifying the publisher - or any other possible parameter of the template - is a help to a reader who wants to check the citation. If it doesn't contribute to that, it doesn't belong in the citation.
|publisher=is mostly only useful for locating books and other offline resources. (Also, publisher for a periodical may change and often does, which would raise the question of whether the publisher specified should be the one at the time of publication, or the current one - a question which can only be answered if we know the purpose of including it, and that's not clear.
