Fair use image use

Per Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9, fair use tagged images such as Image:Yankees cap logo.PNG, Image:JohnLennonWhiteAlbum.jpg, and Image:Democratslogo.svg may not be used on userpages, or any non-main article namespace pages. I've removed the images from User:Psdubow. Please do not re-insert the images. If you have questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. --Durin 16:41, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to the AMA!

Hello Cocoaguy, I see that you have decided to join the AMA. I'll be the first to say welcome! We're always in need of more advocates, especially since were backlogged most of the time. Just a few pointers for what we do. We communicate by putting a template on our talk page. The template is {{AMA alerts}}. The AMA also has it's own IRC channel which reports new cases to us, and also new alerts. If you'd like to jump right into a case, you are free to check out WP:AMARQ, which is our new request for advocacy system. The instructions for how the technical part works is on it's talk page. You can also use the AMA userboxes that appear under here. If you have anymore questions about the organization, just ping any advocates talk page, including our coordinator, Steve Caruso. Again, welcome to the AMA! Martinp23 00:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

We currently have a meeting in progress here, to which you are welcome to comment :) Martinp23 00:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for your support with my RfA. My nomination succeeded. I appreciate your support. Thanks again! =) -- Gogo Dodo 06:47, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Futurama

The article Futurama you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Futurama for things needed to be addressed. Wikiwoohoo 21:55, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Failed GA: Turtles in Time

Your GA decisions were cancelled per the discussion here, because you did not use the GA criteria and instead decided to pass or fail article based on your personal whim. The articles were then reviewed honestly and following the rules. Please do not change these legitimate decisions, and if you wish to judge future GA, please use the proper decision criteria. Thank You and Happy Holidays. -- Ritchy 00:23, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your input. Unfortunately, a valid GA review requires an actual report, not accusations that the page is "un-interesting and trivial", nor vague references to "parts 1, 2 and 4". Please observe how other users have evaluated GA candidates elsewhere for learning examples. At any rate, Turtles in Time has already passed GA after review by one of our peers. You cannot reverse the decision arbitrarily — not unless it has gone through major modifications, which is not the case. If you wish to appeal the GA decision, you must ask for a review and convince people that it is not a GA. Thank You and Happy Holidays. -- Ritchy 01:54, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar

Thanks for the barnstar, Cocoaguy. I see you found some free images for your friend's user page. Good luck. Cheers. AnnH 04:11, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Cat merge

Hi there. You might like to read through Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages, as I'm afraid you didn't merge much of the project pages contents, or any of the talk page! I've merged the remainder though, and cleaned up the redirects and incoming links for Cat breeds, so all is good. Thanks for getting the merge started though, as it did need a push. :) --Quiddity 23:18, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Dr. James McCune Smith

Hello! I've made some rather major changes to this article. I've broken it into sections, did some re-wording, and removed some material that's currently unsourced per the article itself. It looks a bit bare now, but the "skeleton" is larger, so it should be a bit easier to build on.

I also removed the link to New York Historical Society because it led to the Wikipedia article, and when I went to the site itself, the PDF transcript they had didn't work. The podcast might be fun to include, though - I've seen it done.

I found some other online sources that could help. I'm aware that I did remove some facts, so I thought I should provide alternative sources for the online:

This is a pdf of one his essays:

I also noticed that in the sources the jury is out on whether Dr. Smith actually did have the first black pharmacy, it's just "widely believed".

I'll keep these links myself as well. I'll try to help when I can. Good work. Sincerely NinaEliza 03:14, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

ELAC welcome

Hi Cocoaguy, thanks for joining the Extra-Long Article Committee. Here’s a useful site map for you:

{{ELAC site map}}

Your input would be appreciated on the “projects” and “conduct” page; it would be nice to build these in terms of group consensus and input. P.S. do you know how to make the the "committee members" links in this site map be internal links? Thanks, talk soon: --Sadi Carnot 18:49, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Intervention against Vandalism

I recently noticed that you listed a vandal who only had one edit in his history, and no warnings on his talk page. Normally, you should only report vandals who have had proper warning (exceptions: libel, copyright violation, etc.). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SeanMD80 (talkcontribs) 02:41, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

Vandalism

Hey, while I agree with this revert and am about to re-revert as the information is unencyclopedic, you might not want to be so quick to call it vandalism and leave a blantantvandal warning on the guy's page. It looks to me like he's really trying to contribute information. Milto LOL pia 03:10, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

A warning first instead of a welcome first can be insulting and cause a person to vandalize even more. Wikipedia:Do not insult the vandals. Cheers! ^_^ --ElectricEye (talk) 03:45, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar

I need to spread a few of these around myself. -- Kendrick7talk 13:07, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hi. Are you aware you just appear to have vandalised a page? see: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=United_States_Cabinet&diff=prev&oldid=93491230 I'm sure it was a mistake or fluke or osmething, but I just want to check and make sure nobody is impersonating oyu or something. Avraham 01:43, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

That particular vandalism seems to have come from Special:Contributions/72.132.227.14. There was then some more vandalism from another IP. It looks as if Cocoaguy was trying to revert vandalism, and simply reverted to the wrong version. (That happened to me once!) AnnH 01:47, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

In the news

Hi - thanks for the news tip you posted on the ITN article. However, new additions to the In The News are only made weekly, and are published by User:Ral315, as it is a "newspaper" presentation rather than a normal constantly changing wiki. If you have additional suggested articles please post them to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/Suggestions - thank you --Trödel 16:37, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for voting

File:In-the-dark.jpg

Thank you for voting in my RfA which at 51/20/6 unfortunately did not achieve consensus. In closing the nomination, Essjay remarked that it was one of the better discussed RfAs seen recently and I would like to thank you and all others who chose to vote for making it as such. It was extremely humbling to see the large number of support votes, and the number of oppose votes and comments will help me to become stronger. I hope to run again for adminship soon. Thank you all once more. Wikiwoohoo 20:02, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Vandal tags

Thank you for reverting vandalism on Wikipedia!

Be sure to put warning tags on the vandal's user talk page (such as {{subst:test}}, {{subst:test2}}, {{subst:test3}}, {{subst:test4}}). Add each of these tags on the vandal's talk page, in sequential order, after each instance of vandalism. Adding warnings to the talk page assists administrators in determining whether or not the user should be blocked. If the user continues to vandalize pages after you add the {{subst:test4}} tag, request administrator assistance at Request for Intervention. Again, thank you for helping to make Wikipedia better. Musical Linguist

Musical Linguist is an admin already. She needs to run for 'crat. :) Sarah Ewart 02:51, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, Cocoaguy, but as Sarah says, I'm already an admin. And I'm not thinking of running for 'crat! :-) AnnH 03:44, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Concordia Newsletter

  NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

Help out now!

  • Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
  • Give people the Civility Barnstar.
  • Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
  • Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
  • Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

Decision Making

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

Hi Cocoaguy

I'll be happy to. That was sort of my plan - to get all these articles up and running by Feb. I got way-layed a bit by a nasty worm that infected my computer, but I've got a new operating system, I'm all armed, and ready to get back on track with my projects. Thanks for the tip. Who's "we"? FUCKING NINJAS

If the page is not needed, then don't create it. Fan-1967 16:51, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

This makes no sense. The title was used once, three weeks ago, as part of a vandalism page move. The move was reverted and the page deleted. What possible reason is there to recreate the page and ask for it to be protected? Fan-1967 16:55, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
If we created a locked page for every vandal title that was used once we'd have a hundred million of them. Locking pages is not used lightly, and is only used on pages that have been repeatedly recreated. Fan-1967 16:59, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Removing the characterization. Generally, locking (we usually call it "salting the earth" or just salting) is determined by the admin, when deleting a page and seeing it's been created and deleted multiple times. We don't create an article for the purpose of salting it. Fan-1967 17:03, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm honored that you would even say such a thing. Thank you, and Happy Holidays.
If I was an admin, I wouldn't know my left button from my right. Furthermore, I wouldn't get to read most of the articles that I was using my administrative powers in service of.
I like learning, and I like growing. I'm still very much a "baby" on Wikipedia, so my mind might change, but I doubt it. There is plenty of power to be had simply by editing. Thank you again, NinaEliza (talk contribs logs) 15:45, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Cocoaguy

You and Psudbow have both edited constructively and well in the past. Please consider doing so again. I went to bat for you with an admin, so please don't let me down. I promise I will get the article you both worked on up to at least GA status, but I have a couple of other projects going as well. In the interest of my own pleasure, I prefer to work on multiple projects. However, that does not mean I'm not committed to the article in question. You're both welcome to help me with James McCune Smith or it's related articles at any time. I'll in turn help you with copy-edits and re-formating. Sincerely, NinaNinaEliza (talk contribs logs) 17:00, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

I honestly don't know and don't care. What is important is that whatever you did, don't do it again. Specifically - don't approach strangers and type links on their talk pages. I learned that lesson myself. I did it to you, and what you should do is remove that post. This is what the admin is saying you did. The reason why is that the links could contain a virus or worm - among other things. In any event, just try editing articles for a while. Okay?:).NinaEliza (talk contribs logs) 20:21, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

RFC 1149

Hi. I see you removed the Redirect for Discussion tag on RFC 1149. As the RfD box says, please do not remove the tag while the discussion is going on. Please consider discussing your thoughts about it on the Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion page. Personally, I don't think that just being around for 4 years is a good reason to keep the redirect since there is now builtin external link system for RFCs. I guess I could see some logic in some of the April Fools RFCs to be kept sence there are times that you may want to deliberately make things confusing, but I'm not sure that would even be appropriate for WP. Wrs1864 01:24, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Cocoaguy

Gently, you have great intentions, but you need to read the instructions of a page carefully and ask questions at the help desk (located to the right of your screen under "help"). If you have any problems, here is the link [[1]]. Just ask your question at the bottom the page and watch your watchlist.

You need to do this before you do anything major. You can also ask any admin., or ME for heavens sake. I don't mind:). I say this because, among other things, you created a subpage for the peer review of James McCune Smith, pretty much guaranteeing that no one is going to read it.

I know Wikipedia can be a complicated place, but there's plenty of places to get help, okay? Please have Psudbow read this to, since he's "under your wing". I'm not mad or anything, just want you two on the right track. Everybody's learning here all the time - especially me:).

Sincerely NinaNina Odell 05:36, 29 December 2006 (UTC) PS:I changed my signature but I'm still Nina

Mediation Committee

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your request to join the Mediation Committee was not successful. I encourage you to continue in your efforts to help with dispute resolution on Wikipedia, and to consider running again in the future if you remain interested. If you would like to be considered as a reserve mediator (for those times when we find ourselves shorthanded and are in need of willing and competent volunteers) please let me know. Again, thank you for your interest in the committee, and good luck with your work on Wikipedia.

For the Mediation Committee, Essjay (Talk) 04:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Cocoaguy

Please note my new name change, and tell Psudbow (shy guy that he is) about it too. You and Psudbow are two wings of one bird:). I'm sorry to hear about your bid for the Mediation Committee be turned down right now. I'll be applying in a bit, so I hope it's not as hard for me:). I have to do a lot of reading first. Much love and respect, NinaNina Odell 16:49, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

I'm just dropping by here to thank you for reverting vandalism to my user page. Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 19:46, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

That's OK

Sure thing, least I could do. Vandals like this should get longer blocks than they do - a week instead of 24/31 hours should do the trick. Blood Red Sandman Open Up Your Heart - Receive My EviLove 20:58, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Image Deletion

Is there a reason why my image is proposed for deletion? Darendor 22:39, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

About Randfan's page

I apologize. It was a true mistake. You see, he transcluded it on my talk page, and when I went to edit it, delete it, and place it in my archive, but I deleted it by mistake. I did that again to something else of his too. X(. But I quickly reverted.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go here or possibly here. D•a•r•k•nes•s•L•o•r•di•a•n•••CCD••• 16:45, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
