Note on interviews as sources

edit

I thought I'd leave this note when I came across your comment re Draft:Weatherday: "As I understand it, the reason Rateyourmusic can't be used as a source is because the content is user generated. However this link is to an interview with the artist Weatherday which was conducted by the website staff." Interviews are generally considered primary sources (i.e. not as reliable as secondary sources for many things). Essentially, the interviewer is giving the person a platform to speak for themselves, so it's as good as if the person had published it themselves (primary). This isn't to say that interviews can't be used as sources, and I didn't examine the draft history enough to see how it was being used. Sources can be nuanced and tricky, so I just wanted to make you aware of how interviews in general might be challenged as a reliable source, depending on how they're being used. Thank you for taking the time to inform me, I'm new to Wikipedia so I still have a lot to learn but I'm trying to catch up by reading all the guides. Good info to know Clockwalkaroundtheache (talk) 17:13, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
