Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Chumbahway

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Chumbahway, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Request reason:

The reason we want a basic wikipedia entry is because digital radio platforms populate their artist biographies and cover art by sourcing it automatically from online entities such as wikipedia, musicbrainz and songfacts. We have been (basically ordered) told by digital radio media to create a wikipedia entry because that is where they link to, to find information about artists. I have no desire to use wikipedia as a personal promotional platform. I only wish to create the most basic entry that will facilitate the populating of information regarding us on digital radio platforms. We are not receiving compensation for our contribution. I understand why we were blocked. I'm learning here as I go. I am aware that we are not "notable" as yet. But since our recent release we have been picked up by 2 major Australian children's radio platforms and one in the US, and have been selected by an international airline to be included as inflight entertainment, throughout November. I will create a new user name - Robby Waratah. Thank you for your patience and apologies for getting it wrong the first time. Chumbahway (talk) 06:54, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Please propose a new username as the instructions provide(use the first template described, not the second that you used here); it makes the rename process easier. We don't have "basic wikipedia entries" to facilitate your efforts to get on digital radio platforms(you are hardly the first and won't be the last to attempt this). It's unfortunate for you that you were given bad advice and that third parties use Wikipedia in their decision making, but we aren't responsible for that. Our only concern is if you meet our notability criteria for musicians, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources, and you seem to concede that you don't. This means that you don't merit a Wikipedia article and as such you won't be unblocked to attempt to create one. If you are interested in being a general contributor and editing about topics other than yourselves, please tell what those might be. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 08:57, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

What you're saying is that you created the article in order to get publicity. That's not allowed. Deb (talk) 08:42, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Deb. We are not trying to, or attempting to, use wikipedia to get airplay. That is not the purpose of our entry. We already have the airplay. Digital networks automatically draw connections from multiple sources, including wikipedia, musicbrainz, songfacts, listenbrainz etc etc. Connections can be an artist's biography, an album's artwork, song titles and member information. All we are seeking is to establish our existence. Not to embelish or promote ourselves on wikipedia. All we are doing is listing our existence and factual information, so that it can be drawn upon via software that automatically searches for information, and uses that information to connect to entities that exist. We exist. That is all we are trying to say. So we are not trying to say that we created the article to get publicity. We created the article to say we exist. Chumbahway exists. If wikipedia has an entry for the Tooth fairy, which it does, surely it can have an entry that says Chumbahway exists, which it does. We just want to exist. Not promote. Exist.

(Non-administrator comment) I'm not an admin so couldn't unblock you if I wanted to, but as I'm the one who declined your draft, this page keeps popping up on my watch list. I think what you're describing is still promotion; see WP:YESPROMO. But even if one accepts that it isn't, ie. that you genuinely only want a Wikipedia article as a data source for some 'connection', then can I ask why does it have to be Wikipedia specifically, given that you say these networks "draw connections from multiple sources"; could you not create an article on Musicbrainz, say? --DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:42, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Because he already made an article on MusicBrainz Trade (talk) 14:43, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

(Non-administrator comment) Also PLEASE DO NOT change your username by making another account. It's strictly against the rules and are just going to get you into trouble @Chumbahway:--Trade (talk) 14:45, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Chumbahway, your latest argument is nonsensical, as you would know if you took the trouble to read the guidelines. Wikipedia doesn't include everything that exists and makes a point of not doing so. Deb (talk) 15:03, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

No. You've already been told no. We will not allow you to do this. If this is your only goal, this is the end of the line and you must not make another unblock request. Yamla (talk) 21:26, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the kind words everybody. Personally I don't see the reason for such animosity and anger. I've clearly made an honest mistake and have tried to explain my desire to be listed. I know that wiki is not a platform for promotion. I also no that I have been directed to create an entry solely for the purpose of populataing information fields on digital platforms. I shall cease and desist from trying to create an entry for until such time that another source makes the entry without any connection to us. Thank you all and carry on. Bye for now.
