Wikimaps Warper help needed

One of the images in a mosaic failed to import into the Warper and it was suggested that I contact you. Please let me know what is the best venue to contact you and how this issue can be resolved. Shyamal (talk) 13:05, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Shyamal, I've just logged onto the server. It appears theres an error when the warper is trying to read the source image. I deleted the broken map. I'm not sure whats happening, but it's a very large image, dimension wise, and its in ycbr colorspace, or it could have something to do with the exif tags in it. You could try uploading an RGB version of it with no exif tags and see if that works. The mosaic / collection / layer could then be able to be re-imported, or I can manually add it in. Thanks for the error logs, I am not sure what is causing the issue or what I could try but I have re-uploaded the images as they were from the source. The entire mosaic may be deleted and reuploaded manually if that works. There is almost no way to stitch up those images as they are too large so this might be the only way of getting to examine the complete map. Shyamal (talk) 13:30, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

hmm, i have tried to re-upload a version of the map to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lambton1-noexif.jpg (which I guess could be safely marked for deletion?). The first version had no exif headers and the second was a bit smaller. Both didnt work. I don't know how to fix this easily. I/we could try changing it to a png or gif format and uploading that version as changing the format often works? Chippyy (talk) 16:22, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

I think i found whats going on. The imagemagick thing has a limit on the dimensions. Im changing them now and seeing if that helps. Chippyy (talk) 16:37, 24 August 2021 (UTC).

OK, the map was re-added and I added it to the mosaic! It should just need points and rectification now. It was due to the Imagemagick on the system being restricted to the size of the files it could work on. Chippyy (talk) 16:49, 24 August 2021 (UTC).

Okay I think i've done them all now. The warper also has the wikimedia maps with english labels as another map layer, and ive also added a (hopeful) fix so that it should work better with memory. Chippyy (talk) 15:45, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Thanks. I believe I have rectified all the maps in the mosaic but it shows up as 207 maps (205 maps rectified 99%) and cannot find the two maps that are unrectified by browsing the list. Shyamal (talk) 07:20, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

https://warper.wmflabs.org/maps/4884 and https://warper.wmflabs.org/maps/4909 both only have 1 or 2 points. Hope this helps, had to look in the db!

(The ordering of a mosaic's maps isn't that great - there is some code somewhere that can help with that, but I've yet to roll it into the main mapwarper codebase) Chippyy (talk) 19:42, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

WikiConference North America 2022 will be virtual, November 11-13. We will hold it jointly with OpenStreetMap US's Mapping USA. Our theme this year is open knowledge allies. Large Mercator map problem
