Helpers

edit

So, I just realized that even though I have looked through this website very carefully I might still need some tips. Can you guys suggest anything? Characterized (talk) 01:36, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Also what is a reasonable time to reply to some ones messages? ASAP, of course, but what if you don't have time or maybe you just can't find the page you were on. I have many more questions including how do you make those cool pictures/graphics? And can anyone give someone a reward and if so how do you do it? Userboxes

edit

Those are called userboxes. What users do (or me anyways) when they're new here is simply go in other users' pages and copy the userboxes they like onto their own user page.

Go into "edit" and cut and paste different "{{User:Whoever/Userbox/Whatever}}" onto your user page (or sandbox) until you get the one you like. Just a reminder - never do Save on other people's user pages. Just open edit to look.

For example on my user page if you like the userbox "This user learns stuff while editing" then open the "edit" and after trying different ones on your user page (or sandbox) you'll find {{User:Slightsmile/Userboxes/Learning}} is the one. Not too scientific I know.

As you get more comfortable with Wikipedia you might make some userboxes yourself but don't get into that now - keep it simple. There's other ways but this is how I do it. You might find ideas in here : Wikipedia:Userboxes.

I'm just about wrapping up for the day, I'll think of better ways to explain it and check how you're doing tomorrow. All the best. SlightSmile 01:32, 28 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

A gallery of existing userboxes can be found here: WP:Userboxes/Gallery. That should keep you busy for a while. SlightSmile 13:13, 28 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Do you think I have to many user boxes? If I do I'm in trouble because they are all so perfect and I don't want to get rid of them, but thank you so much for helping me!!😄 Characterized @your service 18:51, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Not at all, I don't know why you would think that. Do you check other users' pages? That's what I did when I started. Also talk pages give an insight how people do things here. I mostly looked at talk pages for a month before I started editing articles. Here's a page from me I don't really use much anymore but you might find some good things - User:Slightsmile/UsefulLinks.
Speaking of talk pages - when you end your message, you don't need to type "Characterized @your service". Just put four tildes like this "~~~~" at the end of your message. SlightSmile 01:48, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
