Contested deletion

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... I am merely updating or adding information specific to my organization's scientific activities, and scientific operations, as part of a larger international program (IODP). People are free to discuss whether edits violate the COI, and I will be very happy to respect the letter - and the spirit - of the COI - IF any of my edits violate the COI (and remove them). Having said that, these pages need updating to reflect the actual current situation, and as such I will avoid adding anything with superlatives (e.g. greatest, largest, fastest, best), or anything that constitutes a baseless promotion. I've checked CSD G11, and have noted the following: "Note: An article about a company or a product which describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion."

Therefore, under the neutral viewpoint status of my edits, I suggest that flagging this user (me) for deletion is inappropriate and incorrect.

the current name has been called a violation of terms. Therefore I am proposing a new name, unconnected to any organization. Since the reason stated for the block has been under "self promotion" I will restrict myself to grammatical and 3rd-party source information sources only.

I have stated, in accordance with policy CSD G11 under the original "recommend for deletion" why this account, and why the edits made under it's name, do not qualify, in my understanding of CSD G11, for deletion or blocking. As a matter of fact, by clearly defining affiliation on the account page, I am seeking to clearly AVOID COI. In addition, the edits made to the pages Chikyu and IODP are either of a grammatical form or have added corrections based on factual sources. If sources are needed to confirm this, I am certainly on the path towards doing this, as a look at recent edits will clearly show. An effort has been made to stay neutral and avoid any 'self promotional' activity. Additionally, I have made clear above that I am quite willing to face COI challenges in an open and agreeable manner. The IODP page in it's current state will become obsolete under the terms of the new phase starting in October 2013. A new page, for the International Ocean Discovery Program, will then be needed for describing the collaborative scientific ocean drilling program. Cdex-epm (talk) 07:16, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

In good faith I am following the instructions provided here on my talk page. With no further discussion, I see that this account appears to be deleted. The account is not deleted. Accounts at wikipedia are not deleted. The account is blocked from editing until the unblock request can be processed. You made your unblock request only a couple of hours ago. Administrators have many such requests to process, and, as volunteers, work their way through them as soon as they are able. (edit conflict) There are two issues here:

• Your user-name: Wikipedia accounts must be for individuals only, who are personally responsible for them, and usernames that are names of organizations or groups are not allowed.
• Conflict of interest: editing with a COI requires care because, with the best intentions, COI editors tend to think about what they or their organization want to tell the world, and to present things in the best light. Please read the guideline Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and the WP:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and indicate below whether you are happy to edit in accordance with them; if so, I see no problem in unblocking you to change username. Thanks very much for the feedback - which is what I was hoping for. The user name, as it clearly is a COI, should be changed - I have made a suggestion above. I tried to clearly state my position on my user page as a way to prevent any COI. I fully agree with the WP:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, I think a review of the edits I have made so far to either Chikyu or IODP will bear this out. Of course, I will not create any pages dedicated to my research institution, but think that the policy stated above will allow for minor editing for grammar and uncontentious details (e.g. height of drilling derrick above sea level). I will also (as stated above) make sure to use only 3rd-party sources for references. All in all, I am very happy and pleased to follow the COI and WP:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide.
