Kievan Rus'

edit

Please stop edit warring on the Kievan Rus' page. There is a discussion on the talk page regarding your edits. Please discuss the changes you wish to make there. The page for Kiev is already linked in the infobox and in the second paragraph of the article; it does not need another link. I am not changing the currency designation due to POV -- though clearly you are -- but because you are breaking the link to the page. Please stop.   Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at Talk:Kievan Rus', you may be blocked from editing.
Do not redact other user's comments and respond to comments using other editor's signatures. Your edits were not errors but blatant attempts at misleading those using the talk page constructively.

Iryna Harpy (talk) can you be more specific and explain what was wrong with my adding new pieces of information? Thanks
You violated the WP:3RR with five reverts within three hours. You provided no description summary for three of those, and you ignored the repeated request that you discuss the changes on the talk page. Making changes to the WP:LEAD tends to be a sensitive area, and if there is resistance to your edits, the proper response is to discuss, not to revert without explanation. I was not aware of the limitations on reverts, Laszlo Panaflex (talk) I am new here. I only wanted to make things more clear. For example, there is a Russian grivna word used on the page that pertains to old federation of Slavs. Why do you insist on having the Russian term on this page? Why not Polish or Ukrainian? People who look at this page might think Wikipedia is biased and is somehow controlled by Russians.

So you wish to replace a term that you perceive as having a Russian bias with a term that others will see as having a Ukrainian bias. Meanwhile, most readers will not perceive a bias at all -- likely only those with a nationalist bone to pick will. That is precisely the source of allegations that you are advancing a nationalist POV. The deciding factor is how the term is rendered in English language reliable sources. I don't have time to research that right now, but replacing the Russian spelling with the Ukrainian spelling doesn't seem to eliminate a bias problem, it merely shifts it. As you are new, I suggest you explore Wikipedia:Tutorials on editing and WP guidelines. Laszlo Panaflex (talk) 00:22, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I think you should be honest Laszlo Panaflex here. I suggested using "grivĭna" instead of Russian "grivna". Please stop accusing me in nationalism while advancing Russian term grivna. Your assumption that most readers of the Encyclopedia "will not perceive" biases that you promote here is not substantiated. People do care about facts Laszlo. That is the reason why they visit Wikipedia.Brynsten (talk) 00:35, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have neither POV and no preference for the term used. As I said, the deciding factor is how it is rendered in English language reliable sources. Find which spelling is preferred in such sources, and that is what should be used here. But the only people who will see a nationalist bent from a spelling difference are nationalists. Laszlo Panaflex (talk) 00:41, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I was only referring to the term used in Wikipedia "Old East Slavic: гривьна grivĭna" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grzywna_%28unit%29 Sorry if I hurt your feelings about Russian term grivna Laszlo Panaflex. I am only saying that using the Russian term grivna is inappropriate in the page that talks about Old Slavic people. It is also disrespectful to others who share it as a source of their civilization. I hope you understand that it has no relation to nationalism or hatred.

Okay, in answer to your query about what you did wrong on the article talk page, you need to WP:THREAD your replies more intuitively. More importantly, always remember to WP:SIGN your comments on the talk page. I realise now that this was an genuine error on your behalf, so I'm striking through my own warning. Essentially, the thread looked as if Huon had written the replies to himself.

When you wish to mention someone, you should use Template:User link (i.e., to mention me, you would use {{u|Iryna Harpy}}). If you want to ping someone, use Template:Reply to. Simply copying and pasting someone's signature looks as if you're trying to forge their identity. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 00:19, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

thanks Iryna. I appreciate your friendly attitude and will follow your advice.
