New NASCAR driver infobox

I like the new infobox you've created; it's nice to have one template we can use for all three major series. I do have a few questions, though.

1. Should we add stats for Busch and Truck to every single Cup driver, even if they only ran a few races in Busch or Truck? I point you to the Mark Martin article, where since he is well-established in Busch and (supposedly) moving to Truck, I've put all three. The infobox is absolutely huge, and I don't think that we should put every single stat in there.
2. Would it be possible to add IROC stats for NASCAR drivers to this box, or is that something we should save for an (as-yet undeveloped) IROC infobox?
3. How are we going to do the templates for drivers like Juan Pablo Montoya, who are well-established in F1 (or another series) and are moving to Cup? Should we just add the Cup template before/after the F1 template, or should we create some sort of combination template in conjunction with WikiProject Formula One and WikiProject IROC?
4. Should we add stats for the Canadian Tire Series to this infobox?
5. Dumb question: Is there an easier way to do a numbered list than the way I'm doing this? :p

Again, kudos for creating the new infobox! -- DiegoTehMexican 03:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

First off, thanks. Appreciate the comments, and good questions, all of them. In response:

  1. Yes, I think we should add stats for all three. It has been determinied that even one start in any Premeire series is notable, and once a driver retires, the X races in Y years line should speak for itself.
  2. I was thinking about the same thing myself, but hadn't decided how to format said stats. (Top ten means nothing, as well as first/last race doesn't mean as much...) Probably a better place to bring it up is in the IROC WP, but my opinion: Yes.
  3. That's an even better, albeit rarer question. I'm sure there are more, but I can only think on the one major crossover between NASCAR and F1, and only a few more IROC <-> F1 drivers. I think those should be handled on a case by case basis, with a decent discussion as to which series stats comes first. (I would not want to start anything even remotely saying "my racing series is better than yours" or the like.)
  4. Is the Canadian Tire Series on the same professional level as NEXTEL Cup? If so, then we should probably consider it. If not, then probably not.
  5. See the source code for my reply. :)

-slowpokeiv 00:43, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I suppose I should've said something about this before I started making changes - the Previous Year variable needs to be different for each series - many drivers don't run in the same series year after year, and it would makes the previous position variable incorrect. -- DiegoTehMexican 15:44, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, good point. I was thinking that only if the driver competed in the previous year should it be used, thereby removing the need for multiple variables. However, in the interest of open mindedness, and to not messup the currently used versions, I have made a quick fix. The way it is now (02:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)) setup, prev_SERIES_year will be seperate years if explicitly called. If not, it will default to the "Previous_Year" value. (If both not present, but one of the prev_SERIES_pos is, then we're in trouble.) -slowpokeiv 02:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Hewlett-Packard reversion

There is all kind of POV in the Hewlett-Packard article which is unfavorable to the company . You may feel that my contribution (which took you all of about 60 seconds to remove, what are you, a Dell employee?) is not NPOV but there is no denying the fact that the PRICE OF THE STOCK HAS GONE UP SINCE THE "SCANDAL" HIT THE NEWS, and I provided a cite.

I will rewrite my contribution. Do not remove FACT such as the increase in the stock price over the last month. 68.94.216.210 03:11, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Blanking talk pages, re: User_talk:Hitman000

Currently, there is no official policy regarding the blanking of talk pages. While removing warnings is generally discouraged, it's not strictly forbidden. In this case, the user was just removing some advice that he clearly had read. Cheers! -- Merope Talk 17:07, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry, lots of people have that idea. And consensus hasn't been reached--some users think that you should never blank the talk page, some think that a certain period of time should pass first, some people think that users should be able to do whatever the heck they want with it. So you're not alone! Typically, I think that it's okay as long as a person isn't removing warnings to get away with vandalism or replacing warnings with personal attacks and the like. We'll see if the community can ever decide! -- Merope Talk 17:11, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Edits to Port Chester article

I don't see why my edits to "Port Chester" were considered vandalism- I was only trying to improve the article by adding a little information about the town's economy. I was not saying anything bad about anyone, all the information was relevant. Nothing was offensive or inappropriate. Why was it deleted and a vandalism warning issued? If you read the page for my IP address, you will see that this IP address is used for all the computers at my school- the other articles that were vandalized were not done by me. Our school is currently addressing the problem and hopefully the vandals will be stopped.

what was wrong with my edits?

Dear DiegoTehMexican

I recently edited the Pixel2Life page with completely true information. Your editing was false. Everything I said about the admins and staff is true and for deleting it I should look into your termination from this website. Go to discussion about Pixel2life if you already haven't. Thanks, asshole.

"Rule #8: Be gracious: Be liberal in what you accept, be conservative in what you do. Try to accommodate other people's quirks the best you can, and try to be as polite, solid and straightforward as possible yourself."

I disagree with you strongly. I read the above changes you have made to factual edits and you weren't following the Wikipedia Guidelines. And do not continue to delete this edit because it is true. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.220.178.224 (talk) 16:58, 20 October 2006.

Beech 18 and the Cessna 0-2

I am insulted about the comment which you made about my alleged internet Vandalism. I have many hours in both the Beech 18 and the Cessna 0-2/337 Skymasted series. I think I know a little bit more about the subject than most people. I may not always be correct, but in this case I am. Thank you for your continued vigilance. Chaucerair@yahoo.com

SD criteria

Hi, I've noticed your excellent SD tagging work. However, I saw you recently tagged an article about Star Wars filming locations as "original research". While it certainly was that, WP:CSD notes that being OR is, regrettably, not a valid criterion. {{prod}} would be better for OR if you can't find a SD criterion. Happily, I did speedy the article as "no context", as there was certainly very little of that. Cheers! --Ginkgo100 talk 21:28, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

2007 in NASCAR Busch Series

Hi, I was cleaning up the current sports category and this was one of the articles that was in there. As the season only starts in February 2007 that is a future sports event to me, not yet a current. Cheers, SportsAddicted | discuss 13:25, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Giacinto Cestoni

I believe you were hasty to tag Giacinto Cestoni for speedy deletion. Seeing the sheer volume of new pages created that are vanity or advertising, I don't blame you for being vigilant, but even the initial article has enough basic information on Cestoni to assert his importance -- involoved in the discovery of a species, not to mention the diagnosis of a known and common disease. I tagged the article as stub-level and googled around for some information, and I'm hoping the article will be expanded very soon. LeaHazel : talk : contribs 13:55, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Timothy harper

DiegoTehMexican: Yes, I have been here for a while and certainly had no intention whatsoever of creating a "random nonsense page." In fact, the page was re-created in error when I was trying to make a page that consisted of nothing more than bobobobobobobobobo which was created by a new user Joepratten. The page was deleted (see, the Log for Timothy harper) at the same time I was marking it for deletion and I immediately attemtped to correct the problem by contacting the person who deleted the origianl nonsense page (See my efforts Here). Please rest assured that I do not intentionally create "random nonsense page"s and know how to use a sandbox (see the history of my own sandbox). --Tlmclain | Talk 18:55, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Speedy deletions

Diego, I see you are a prolific new page patroller -- good job! However, I would ask you to slow down a bit. Some of your speedy-deletion tagging seems to be a little imprecise. A few examples from today: Interrupted gene -- valid article, no reason to delete it. Stuart Nagel - may be not notable enough for WP:BIO, but should not be speedied; use AFD. Politics of Shreveport - valid article (possible merge candidate though). Aref ensemble - may be notable (I've bumped this to AFD). Some of the articles you tagged I redirected in lieu of deletion. Also, in many of these cases you tagged an article with "no context" or other before the author had a chance to complete the article (most newbies tend to compose articles piecemeal, without using the Preview button). One concrete suggestion I have is to patrol the bottom of the New Pages list, rather than the top, to allow some time to finish editing. Just reviewing your contributions I see many contributions with the edit summary "tag for speedy deletion", indicating that these articles were not speedy deleted despite your tag. There are probably many articles properly tagged&deleted that aren't easily seen in your Contributions, but I wonder how many valid articles were improperly deleted! Quarl (talk) 2006-12-10 21:11Z

Thanks for the revert on my talk page; that was a quick one.
About the comment you left on my page earlier - I was getting overzealous with the speedy deletion tags. However, I think that today was the exception rather than the rule; there seemed to be a higher percentage of iffy articles than normal. I've gotten used to over half of the new pages being nonsense pages, as was the case recently. I need to get out of that mindset. — BrotherFlounder (aka DiegoTehMexican) 04:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I know how easy it is to get into that mindset. Quarl (talk) 2006-12-11 10:20Z

sedona,az page

what I left on the Sedona, Arizona PAGE WASN'T nonsense. Everything was completely acturate and I don't apprechiate being corrected by someone who has apparently has no idea what they are talking about, if you believe that (most locals think its a tourist trap) is an opinion, well I am sorry I didn't know that wasn't aloud however accurate it may be. However every other revision was perfectly accurate. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.164.196.100 (talk) 21:47, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

thank you, also I corrected the spelling on 'vortices' to vortexes. I am sure you like to keep thing accurate here at wikipedia so that was another revision you deleted...—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.164.196.100 (talk)

yes it is one of the ways, it actually can be either one but the one most commonly used and the one used on all the guides here in Sedona and things is VORTEXES

From Dictionary.com:

vor·tex (vôr'těks') Pronunciation Key n. pl. vor·tex·es or vor·ti·ces (-tĭ-sēz')

A spiral motion of fluid within a limited area, especially a whirling mass of water or air that sucks everything near it toward its center. A place or situation regarded as drawing into its center all that surrounds it: "As happened with so many theater actors, he was swept up in the vortex of Hollywood" (New York Times).

[Latin vortex, vortic-, variant of vertex, from vertere, to turn; see wer-2 in Indo-European roots.]

External Link Deletion

hello DiegoTehMexican,

I don't feel you should have deleted the links I added to several Massachusetts town pages. The links I added show valuable information about the housing market in each town including sold property averages, a sold property database, local articles and advice, and the ability to see all properties for sale in each town.

It doesn't even appear that you live in Massachusetts. The local pages are geared towards the LOCAL people of MA. I don't see why you feel the need to remove links that may be valuable to the residents of our towns. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Don Paradis (talkcontribs) 01:52, 11 December 2006 (UTC).

List Of USA Presidents

I recently edited the list of US presidents adding Bugs Bunny as the new president in 2008. this of course was promptly deleted and i was threatened by you to have my account banned because of vandalising a page. although this is false (bugs bunny wont be the next president unfortunatly) it is funny and people will get a kick out of that. have you no sense of humor??? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Perklax (talkcontribs) 02:20, 11 December 2006 (UTC).

You're welcome. Actually I find that new pages patrolling is one of the hardest jobs on the site; not only do you quickly burn out from looking at so much of the same nonsense again and again, but you get ten times as much abuse as thanks. So thanks, from me, for doing the tagging; we'll keep doing the bagging! Antandrus (talk) 05:18, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Im sorry

Sigh. The number of people who think blanking an article is the same as deleting it. I wonder if something, somewhere, should make the difference clear. Trouble is I doubt whether those starting a new article saying "I am k3w1 and my m8 is 2" then happlily blanking it, thinking that's the end of it, are likely to read WP:INTRO first. Maybe if the "start a new page" page said something in bright red letters... (I live in hope ;-) )Tonywalton  | Talk 19:12, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I know that the word is used by many people, however, it is still a piece of slang, and may be confusing to folks, like me, who are not familiar with the term. At the least, you could explain the term so that people unfamiliar with it might know its usage. FrozenPurpleCube 16:11, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
