Thanks for the "butt-in" : ) I hope my comments didn't sound elitist on the user's talk page when I referred to myself as an established user. It was just strange to receive a template warning, and an incorrect one at that. Wisdom89 (T / C) 02:50, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for observing the recommendation of the deletion policy of giving a heads up when you placed this {{prod}}

Could you please explain your reasoning more fully?

unnotable, fails WP:BIO. Being involved in a controversial and notable situaiton doesn't make one notable. There must be substantial coverage on an individual person for him to be notable. This has been the concensus of previous afd's. Please - per WP:CONCENSUS - stop making these articles.

Wikipedia:BIO#Basic criteria says:

A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has been the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject.

I posed questions on Wikipedia:BLP#Noticeboard and WP:RS#Noticeboard about the Summary of Evidence memos prepared for the CSR Tribunals. Questions were asked about the independence of the authors.

I pointed out that while the authors of the documents were all officers and enlisted personnel in the US military, they were not in the Guantanamo chain of command.

These documents were not part of the JTF-GTMO's intelligence gathering operations.

The Office for the Administrative Review of Detained Enemy Combatants, in which the authors of the memos were temporarily serving, reported directly to a "Designated Civilian Official", skipping even the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

I haven't a clue what your reference to WP:CONSENSUS is supposed to mean. Geo Swan (talk) 05:51, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

My RfB

I wanted to personally thank you, Brew, for your support in my recent RfB. I am thankful and appreciative that you feel that I am worthy of the trust the community requires of its bureaucrats, and I hope to continue to behave in a way that maintains your trust in me and my actions. I have heard the community's voice that they require more of a presence at RfA's of prospective bureaucrats, and I will do my best over the near future to demonstrate such a presence and allow the community to see my philosophy and practices in action. I hope I can continue to count on your support when I decide to once again undergo an RfB. If you have any suggestions, comments, or constructive criticisms, please let me know via talkpage or e-mail. Thank you again. -- Avi (talk) 16:19, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Contesting Busboys and Poets and Andy Shallal speedy delete nominations

Hello, I see you've nominated these pages for speedy deletion. I ask that you hang on for the time being, and have added the tag to both. I've been doing a bit of research, so I'll have plenty more information to add and citations for all of it. The Busboys page is indeed barely a stub right now, and there is one citation but I forgot to add the references formatting at the bottom. As for Shallal's page, my edit summaries noted that citations are coming soon. But it's late on the East Coast and I'll have to save these for tomorrow. I think you'll find both are notable and verifiable on short order. --WWB (talk) 07:06, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah, my mistake. It's late and I just assumed it was speedy. The restaurant is very popular and has received much coverage; Shallal is a prominent businessman with plenty of ink as well. No worries. My citations will be from the Washington Post and other reliable sources. I have the rest in notes and rough drafts, so it won't take long to get all of this in both articles. Cheers, --WWB (talk) 07:17, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Gotcha. I see you've removed the tags before I could -- thanks. This is the first time I've had to contest a deletion, so my knowledge of the protocols is a little on the thin side. Appreciate the tip. --WWB (talk) 07:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
OK, per your advice I've removed both. I think you'll see the articles will both be notable, separate from each other. Shallal is a prominent activist with much going on outside Busboys, and Busboys itself has plenty going on that has been covered that is not about Shallal specifically. Thanks for clueing me in on the differences and being able remove the "proddings." --WWB (talk) 07:31, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Totally unrelated

BTW, I like your talk page template, and I've been meaning to update my userspaces. Is there a page here somewhere I could pick it up and use on my own, or is it not available to others? --WWB (talk) 07:34, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I mean the green background and border around it. What you noted is pretty good too, although not being a student I could use one for being busy at the office. --WWB (talk) 07:43, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. After two years of casual editing, I still don't understand much about that stuff, either. And I appreciate the prod removal. --WWB (talk) 07:55, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I have no idea why that happens sometimes....

and it usually fixes itself. TW damn near killed me on the multi-nom I just did. Ended up going back and doing so much of it by hand that I should have done that in the first place. How's school? I'm so ready for spring break! TRAVELLINGCARIMy storyTell me yours 05:31, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Itcha

I added a context to this article. Is it good enough to remove the tag?Dchmelik (talk) 08:05, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Firstly, you don't need my permission to remove the tag. But now that you ask, I'll tell you that I still don't know what is going on. I could figure it out, but I'm sure that you would like the article to be an easy read. What confuses me about the opening sentence - "Itcha Shakti (Sanskrit) in Hinduism is willpower" - is what "Shakti (Sanskrit)" is refering to. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 08:12, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
I do not know what you mean. 'Itcha Shakti' is actually the whole term for this article. I made a link from the 'Shakti' article, but the 1st sentence does not just refer to Shakti. Some of the other articles about Shaktis, such as Kundalini, omit 'Shakti' from their title. Did you maybe mean you did not know why it said Sanskrit? Often people write the language it is translated from in parentheses, though usually with the word in that language or transliterated. I just do not have the word in that form....--Dchmelik (talk) 02:15, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I think I'm begining to understand. But if "Itcha Shakti" is the whole term, then shouldn't it be the name of the article? Also, are you sure that it isn't "Itcca Shakti" with a "c" ? The latter gets far more ghits then the former?
I also added some categories. Please make sure that they are correct. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 02:28, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
I suppose I will rename these articles and direct 'Kundalini Shakti' to Kundalini; I do not know about redirecting Itcha because there are other hits. I know various transliterations, but not 'itcca;' I would have to see the sources. All the categories except perhaps one (which I described on talk:Itcha were right.--Dchmelik (talk) 09:08, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

John Rook

I added an explanation to Talk:John Rook as to why I feel the article should not be deleted. I suspect the original deletion decision was based upon a poorly written entry rather than the suitability of Rook for Wikipedia. I also suspect that the original writer was unaware of the deletion discussion or how to participate in it. But bottom line is the guy is as worthy as any radio programmer of his era for inclusion. His impact on a segment of the public at large is undeniable. I'm in on this because he asked for my help. I wouldn't have offered it if I felt an entry was inappropriate. I'm not biased in favor or against him. He's mentioned on other wiki articles, including KFI. Thanks Ningueme (talk) 10:46, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

When I first saw the article it it looked notable to me and I found it to be funny that it was delted previosly. But since the article didn't really have any linkable sources and I had no idea why it was previously deleted I played it safe and tagged it as repost. --brewcrewer (yada, yada)

Please help-- I was in the process of adding categorization and turns out the article got the 'speedy deletion' with no notation on my talk page whatsoever so I'm not sure why. --This guy beats so many people radio wise in wikipedia that it's almost a credibility issue to have some I won't name included and him deleted. Can you please help restore this page? If so, i'll go in and categorize again. Thanks a lot —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ningueme (talkcontribs) 23:10, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you are refering to, the article is right here.--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:24, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! When I tried to upload it recently I got the message that it had been deleted while I was editing it.. glad to find that apparently that was wrong. I went back and added categorization and some more links. I appreciate your help!Ningueme (talk) 02:53, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Carlos Tomada

With all due respect, this is not a stub article. This is a sentence. It is, therefore, a speedy deletion candidate. If the original poster cannot be bothered to make this into something worthwhile, neither should the rest of the users on this site. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:28, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Since when is a "sentence" a speedy deletion canditate? --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 19:30, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Short, nearly contentless articles are and always have been speedy deletion candidates. On top of all that, I can't find any reference on this site to that cabinet position. I'm not trying to be nasty; it's hard to communicate frustration in writing without it coming out as anger and I'm not angry in the least. Believe me, I have seen more than my fair share of these kinds of "nanostubs" deleted for lack of content/context. I've urged the original poster to please expand this. If he does, I certainly have no objection to it staying. My real objection is to the original poster not taking the time to read the minimum requirements for a stub. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:40, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Never mind; I found a bit of info on this guy at the Portuguese Wikipedia. Thanks for the external refs; I'll see if I can fix the text. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:43, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Neither do I (nuts). However, my wife is in the process of making some fruit smoothies. I'll raise one in your honor. Besides, it looks as if we've fixed this into something more closely resembling an article. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:50, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

please advise

Dear Brewcrewer,

You put a "notability" tag on this new article I am creating. Do you think not think it is notable? I have provided third-party sources, the founder won a national award, and it is recognized by an international agency (the Center for International Disaster Information). I may be mistaken but I thought these were enough to make it notable.

Thanks for any advice. Renee

It's so well written that I felt bad prodding, so I just tagged it. I don't think that it meets the notability standard of WP:ORG. Although the founder won a national award, I don't think that it makes her organazation notable; it might make her notable. And reliable third-party doesn't by itself cut it. There must be substantial coverage by third....Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 21:16, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply. If you think it's non-notable then I'm okay with putting it up for AFD. There currently aren't any other references besides those I found. I think, however, that with Nedam's award, that the group might get more press. Wait, let me check my university's lexux-nexux first and I'll get back to you. Thanks, Renee Renee (talk) 21:28, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay I checked and couldn't find anything other than what I've already posted. One of the articles notes that it was featured on ABC's 20/20 in 2002, but I searched ABC's site and couldn't find anything either. If you think it's non-notable go ahead and AFD it. (Have to admit though, I'll keep my fingers crossed for it -- hope springs eternal!) Renee (talk) 21:38, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Do you think this organization is notable enough for an article? I'd like to write articles for Wiki on persons, topics, or groups involved in humanitarian projects/aid. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks, Renee Renee (talk) 23:26, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

It gets a few ghits, but I'm unsure if it's enough to meet the noatbility standard of WP:ORG. I'm sure there's people and organazations that are of easy notability, but I personally don't know of off-hand. Worst case scenairo, you can edit articles that are on Wiki already, there's plenty of work to do on most articles. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:23, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Notability of sugar mills in Fiji

The sugar industry is very very important to Fiji and over the last 125 years its development centered around sugar. Most of the major towns in Fiji are built around sugar mills. The sugar mill companies had a profound impact on the social and political life of the people of Fiji. Many books have been written on the sugar industry, including the sugar cane farmers unions, mill workers unions, political parties arising from these, influence of milling companies on government policy, contribution of milling companies to sports etc. While not all the mills will satisfy the notablility criteria, I am convinced that at least six will Girmitya (talk) 07:52, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Before you go off on the Jimmy Meng article, I'd better show you this from WP:BIO: "Politicians who have held international, national or sub-national (statewide/provincewide) office, and members and former members of a national, state or provincial legislature" are definitely considered notable. Scooter Berry

Thanks for making up your claims of me trying to create an article on every player on the WVU roster and you trying to talk me out of it, which I oddly cannot recall. I have looked over my talk page and see nothing of the sort on it. So either get your facts straight or don't lie. And as for Berry, he was a Freshman All-American on different sources, and is notable by that standard.

So, if you have a problem with me creating articles on a "free" encyclopedia, please talk to me about it if you plan on telling people you do. And don't make up bullshit about me creating numerous articles that have no notability, because only two of the articles I've ever created out of the numerous others have been deleted because of notability, and one was on the current roster.

Thanks, John (talk) 17:14, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

  • I apologize for the misstatememt. I think I confused you with another editor. There was some conversation about making article on college players, but not to the extent that I claimed.
