Your recent reversion on the Travis Head article was well-meaning but incorrect. Those figures appear to have been pulled from ESPN CricInfo at the time. In future, it would be best to look for citations prior to reverting with claims of changes being original research. Promethean (talk) 15:51, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
- The match was still in progress - in fact, Head's innings was still in progress iirc (I was watching it at the time). I double-checked on CI and the numbers there were correct as of the end of his previous match. Sorry, but it was OR. Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:55, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your busy afternoon. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 18:29, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for your recent work on reverting vandalism on his article. Pretty good for a dead man to be selected for their next T20I series! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:35, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Kent Kit
Hi Blue Square Thing! Hopefully you remember last year the discussion we had about the graphic I did for the Kent CCC First Class kit? Well I've had an e-mail from another user asking why there isn't one for Kent (all other counties now have one) and when I might do it? I remember you had objections on several fronts to the graphic. But excluding your ones about kit graphics in general, would you object to me having another go with your guidance? It would be nice for a complete set using that template for all the counties to exist. XrysD TALK 11:24, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- I do have fairly major objections to them in general, but why not have a go and we'll have a look and see where it would go best in the article. I really don't think the infobox is the place for it. As a heads up, this and this was last year's styling, but I believe the shirt at least is changing this year for the club's 150th year. I don't know about the jumpers: they are more likely to stay. The LA shirt is also changing. I imagine all the stuff from this year will roll into next season in the circumstances Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:33, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- OK thanks, I will have a try then! I took the graphics out of the infobox in general already as it isn't the place for them - they are now just standard page images. For the moment I will go with last years shirt design along with the traditional jumper. I did see something on the club's site about a sublimated design for this year's shirt as it is the 150th anniversary, but can't find any pictures apart from thumbnails. Will let you know when it's ready. XrysD TALK 09:41, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
- I have uploaded the kit graphic. It's currently not shown in the Kent CCC article. Just a few notes: the link you gave above for the shirt is from 2018. This image from 2019 shows a different design which I am presuming is correct. For the cap, although, as you have mentioned before, they fade in the sun to a purpley/maroon colour, I have shown the cap (and jumper) as shown in this image. Finally, the only advertising I show is the maker mark for the shirt as the design belongs to them and the mark is part of that. For this (and all other) graphics I omit all sponsor graphics (as these can change every year and are not really a functional part of the kit). And I leave maker marks (if present) off the jumpers as, unlike the shirts, these are classic timeless designs that just happen to be currently made by firm xxxx. They do not own the design copyright, the club does. Let me know what you think. XrysD TALK 10:02, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
- Here's the shirt for this season*. The blue and red flashes on the shoulder were right up on top of the shoulder - you can barely see them in most photos (the one here for example). Do we keep the Samurai logo or not? That's a commercial sponsor's logo isn't it? Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:37, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
- This season's shirt - excellent I can now do that one! With regards to the Samurai logo; yes you're right it is a commercial logo, but not in the same sense as Go-Tec or FGS. It's perhaps a subtle difference, but Samurai Sports make the shirt and their logo is part of that design, as much as Adidas sleeve stripes or Nike swoosh. The other companies' logos are nothing to do with Kent CCC or the shirt design stylistically - wrong colours, wrong style. They are simply plastered on the shirt as they might be on any other team they sponsor. For these reasons I feel the maker logo is a special case and should remain. . Last seasons shirt: I will move the stripes up and re-upload. Apart from that are you OK with it being on the Kent CCC page? If it isn't linked it will be bot deleted in a few days due to rules about this type of image. XrysD TALK 11:37, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
- Have now done updated 2020 version so that makes the 2019 one moot I guess! I got the list of player names that are sublimated on the shirt from this file on the club website. I also noticed the club have changed the logo for 2020, which I also found on the website so I have updated that. I do obviously have the logo with the 150th Banner too, but I guessed the logo in the infobox should be the plain one - what do you think? XrysD TALK 16:05, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
- Why don't you try it and we'll see what happens. I'm not 100% sure where the best place for it might be - the layout of the Kent page is rather different to most, if not all, of the other counties - for a variety of reasons. I suppose I should spend the next three months paying it a little more attention really, so it might get moved around a little. Thanks, by the way. I think this is a better fit to what I see when I'm at the ground than what you had before. Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:17, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
- Brilliant! I'll put it roughly where it sits in the article for the other teams, but move it around if you don't feel it goes there. Thanks again, you've already made at least two people happy today :) XrysD TALK 16:23, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Kent 2020 season
Hi there! I haven't created a page for the 2020 Kent season as yet (busy with other projects), so feel free to jump in if if you can! There is clearly some uncertainty over what matches, if any, will be played though. Bs1jac (talk) 14:54, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hey. My gut feeling is that it's probably best left for now to be honest and we'll see what comes around in July. If the whole thing is cancelled then I'm not sure it'd be worthwhile having a page that basically says that Darren retired. All very unfortunate. Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:34, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Reverted edit on All the Stations
Hi, I was wondering why my edit on All the Stations was reverted? As it is 3 stations they Haven't yet visited, and obviously it is related to the project...? By no means do I wish to start an editing war, but I just thought it might be relevant...?? IamMattDavies (talk) 13:31, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hello IamMattDavies. For several reasons:
- do you **know** that neither has been to any of those stations? I believe two were mentioned on a video as not having been visited, but I'm not sure that one was confirmed as being not yet visited;
- the phrase "have yet to", rather like phrases such as "at present" and "currently", is extremely dangerous on wikipedia. It gets out of date very quickly - trust me; I edit a lot of cricket articles and I think the record I've found is someone "currently" playing for a side they left in 2005. And that was this year I found it;
- I'm unconvinced it's clearly relevant to name specific stations that haven't been visited. I get where you're coming from, but it's on the edge of relevance in terms of the article we have here. If we added a boiler-plate statement such as: "The pair have continued to visit newly opened stations since the end of the project..." we might be OK and future proof the article in a more effective way;
- once, say, 25 new stations have been opened in the three countries, do we want to mention all of those individually?
- negative statements are probably best avoided.
I think I'd rather see a boiler plate such as the above and then add the specific cases where they become relevant. As of now, with only relatively few new stations having been opened, we can probably afford to mention them all briefly - with more detail for anything particularly notable - but we're not far off stopping doing that anyway. I think. Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:54, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply - of course, lots of new stations are planned / under consn., so yes, it probably would be tedious to mention all of them (if indeed they leave them be)... IamMattDavies (talk) 16:32, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
"so, bu "present" we actually mean "10 years ago but the person who decided to put in "present" didn't ever look back at the page?" Nope, I don't think I've ever looked back at the page. But that isn't necessarily how Wikipedia works: it is collaborative. When I inserted "present", it was true. I have not edited the page since then, but at least ten other editors have. Perhaps don't just try to place the blame on one person. Harrias talk 08:51, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- Fair enough - as you say, plenty of people could have done so. I generally dislike the use of "present" however - moreso in cases where it's just a single season. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:52, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- Granted, but bear in mind that back in 2010, the example given in Template:Infobox cricketer/doc (this revision) included "present". In fact, it remained in place until 20 February 2017. Harrias talk 08:59, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- Yes; it's something that is an interesting ongoing issue - I guess I get frustrated when I see something so out of date and then think back to having to deal with some franchise fan adding 2020-present to an IPL article for this year's competition for someone who's already played for seven T20 teams in two seasons. Nevertheless, my apologies - I should have made that clearer; my edit summary was intolerant and I shouldn't have written it in that way. Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:04, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Geoff Marshall
Hi Blue Square Thing. I'm going through the article history of Geoff Marshall to figure out what's been going on with the long edit-warring over his date of birth. I'm a bit concerned that at least twice [1][2] you have reverted to an unreferenced version that as far as I can tell has never been properly referenced and is inaccurate. Can you check to see if I'm overlooking a reference you may have relied upon? Anything you can offer to shed light on the article's editing history would be appreciated. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 16:05, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- In both cases that seemed to be the established version and had been changed unexpectedly and in one case without an edit summary. The edits had been tagged and potentially tricky, so I think I probably just reverted. I'd be much happier to do away with the date of birth entirely. Aravinda de Silva
Hi Blue Square Thing
Why won't the achievement of Aravinda De Silva being the third highest run scorer in ODI cricket at the time of his retirement, not be listed at his page?
- Because the page is already full of all sorts of stuff. The whole international career section is a total mess of facts thrown in without any idea of summary or flow. Try adding some flow and summary rather than just more facts. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:55, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
What Wikipedia page would you point towards as a good reference to create flow and summary.
- Ian Johnson (cricketer) is a featured article, as are Adam Gilchrist and Wally Hammond. Blue Square Thing (talk) 22:51, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Amy Poehler
Hi, Blue Square Thing. I wanted to let you know why I restored the status quo at Amy Poehler. There's no blanket prohibition against giving basic information on celebrities' children, and at least one RfC has held that when the parents themselves release the name widely to media, they consider it public information; when the parents themselves do not release the information, as with Ginnifer Goodwin, then the parents do not consider it public and neither do we. I know this can be a sensitive matter with some editors; I would just ask that before re-reverting, protocol per WP:BRD is to discuss the matter on the article's talk page to try to reach consensus with other editors. Thank you for understanding.--Tenebrae (talk) 18:24, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for putting the note on here - I appreciate that and the thoughtfulness that it involves.
- I tend to think that, unless the child is notable (I would say in the league of Brooklyn Beckham) that we're much better off not naming them - and that we certainly shouldn't provide birth dates. In this case I think there's more of an argument for inclusion, but frankly it doesn't seem awfully important to me in terms of discussing the parent and I would err on the side of privacy in almost every case. By all means start the discussion on the article talk page and feel free to ping me on it - it isn't an article that overly interests me so I don't know if I'll be bothered to do so myself.
- Thanks again for your courtesy and thought. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:31, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
- Of course, and I thank you as well for your collegiality. I've added a link here to the RfC for further background.
- True about Brooklyn Beckham, similar to Kim Kardashian & Kanye West's children and Beyonce & Jay-Z's, for example — all widely spotlighted in the media. I wish there were a clear line on the fame scale for celebrity children. And, obviously, for non-public-figures we're in complete agreement that it isn't public information. It's a pleasure to work with and discuss things with you. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:38, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Making baseless OR claims
You recently called my edit OR. While I'm not against keeping away from updating wickets during matches, you cannot call my edit OR. I added it after reading it from Times of India and especially since it will be automatically updated in the ESPN source, in time. I realize not changing other fields was a mistake, but that's no reason to say I have committed OR. I never try to do that. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 23:22, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- Err, sure, so it said that Anderson had taken that many wickets but the source in the ib didn't. So add a source then. So that someone might know where it comes from.
- Now. I assume you might have read this article?. That says "Anderson had taken 2-35 from 15 overs to move to within eight wickets of becoming the first paceman with 600 in Tests", not "Anderson has now taken a total of 592 Test wickets" - so, maybe there's another article; I don't know.
- Whatever, we get a lot of utterly senseless stats edits part way through matches. These are almost always partial and are a major cause of errors - and in many cases are very clearly OR. If yours wasn't OR then good for you - but if you're going to partially update statistics during a match then you need a very, very good reason to do so and to be able to back it up with sources. Blue Square Thing (talk) 23:30, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Your tone sounds sarcastic. I admit not updating all the statistics was a mistake, but there's no reason for you to be hostile. OR is something you made up yourself. Original research. Something contrary to source should be labeled as simply not in source. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 01:26, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- Please don't update stats during a match. It leads to all sorts of errors. Wait until the reliable source cited in the infobox updates - usually a little while after the match ends. When you do update the stats, please update all of them: this means updating first-class stats as well as Test stats and List A as well as ODI, for example. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:29, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- I already said I won't. However, that is not a reason to call something as OR. Please avoid it next time, something not in source simply should be described as such when you know it's a fact. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 18:29, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Stats
Hi, are stats updated when the player’s innings is complete, the team’s innings is complete or when the match is complete? Thanks. Mrmariomaster (talk) 15:36, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- When the source is updated - usually 30 minutes or so after a match is completed. Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:42, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi BST. Hope you are well, and catching bits of cricket inbetween the rain. Just to note that this is part of some ongoing disruption. As you can see, it's been going on for a long time....! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:40, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Ian Botham
You have described one of my recent edits as follows: "That's utter trivia and seems awfully like spam to me as well". Might I enquire why? To remind you, here is the sentence I added:
- On 12 August 1995 Botham was interviewed at length by Andrew Neil on his one-on-one interview show Is This Your Life?, made by Open Media for Channel 4.
This seems to be the only extended television interview given by Botham apart from his long-form interview by Piers Morgan on ITV (which is also not currently mentioned in the article). The style of the Andrew Neil interview can be checked (as it happens another interview from the same series is legally linked to here) and can uncontroversially be characterised as in-depth.
Yet you say the Andrew Neil interview is not only "trivia" but "utter trivia" and perhaps also "spam". Apologies if I have missed the point but it would seem to be a good idea to include a reference to both the Andrew Neil and the Ian Botham interviews (and perhaps others as well, maybe in a section called "notable media appearances" or some such). However given my COI I will now step aside and leave this to other editors. AnOpenMedium (talk) 11:14, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
- Certainly in terms of the way it was added and the COI it looked awfully like spam to me - the ways in which the name of the media company, for example, was added seemed totally unnecessary. It's also, frankly, really very trivial. Of all the things we could write about Bothham this really isn't that important at all. Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:01, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Babar Azam
Hi mate, I hope you would be fine. I have checked numerous biographies, especially of cricketers for that purpose, and most of those does not have a reliable source that confirms the person's height which is mentioned their. I tried to find one but, it is very difficult to find a reliable source. May be you can help. I have got Babar's height by searching "Babar Azam Height" on google. May be we can add "Citation needed" with it, till I or someone else finds a source. What you say? Floka 🐯 (talk) 06:06, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- G'day. Personally I prefer to not have a height - I know there are some without a ref, but that doesn't mean we should necessarily add one unless we can find something that's a bit more reliable than a g-search (and personally I'd remove them... - they ony get changed by idiots half the time anyway...).
- Some are sourced from the CI profile; Australian's who have a Cricket Australia profile will usually have a reliable height on there - I don't know if they'd have one for Babar or not; it'd be a long shot I think. I'll see if I can take a bit of a look - we only need a mention in an article or something to be able to source it - there might be something in a Wisden article or a CI one somewhere (although he's a bit average in the height stakes - someone like Zak Crawley often has their specific height mentioned...). Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:19, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, actually this part of edit was removed earlier due to it being unsourced. It wasn't removed due to the issue like over detail. And it was edited as being part of the summary of the series. Thanks!Floka 🐯 (talk) 09:04, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- Also, I want to tell you that, I am also against putting every match details, but because it was an important series for him as he was playing for the first time in those conditions and at that time it (83 runs) was his highest score. So, I thought it was necessary to edit a bit of detail about the series. Floka 🐯 (talk) 09:28, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
Your undo of my edits.
But the IPL history of him on that page was very outdated. And Im sure that there are people wondering why he isnt playing in the present IPL season Parthiv Eshwara (talk) 06:51, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- I doubt it. And, even if they are, Wikipedia is not the place to put something so trivial. Think about summary style and developing an article for the longer term rather than such obvious recentism. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:42, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
How about something about IPL 2019? there isn't any mention of that in the page. Parthiv Eshwara (talk) 08:14, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Is that interesting? Is it relevant? We don't need to mention every little event and, quite frankly, for an international cricketer a plastic franchise league isn't that important. Test cricket, World Cups and the like, yes - but even then why would we mention every match or even every series? Why would we include something on every franchise league they play in? Look at Adam Gilchrist. That's the sort of summary style we should be aiming for. Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:19, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Are my publishes getting through?

Combine that with the fact that cricketers like Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh and Chris Morris (and many more) got into their national teams because of their IPL and talk again. There are tons of Indian ipl fans of Wikipedia and in fact, I was searching the reason he was not on the team when I saw it was not included in Wikipedia. I can bet that atleast 100000 people can relate. considering most of the cricket fans are Indian anyway Parthiv Eshwara (talk) 08:51, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Sorry I thought you could send links through this.
Parthiv Eshwara (talk) 08:52, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
If you really thing ipl is a plastic league then try to match it up against the wc from the last 5 years. It only beats the IPL in the year it is held(which is fair) but it only beats it by a tiny bit. Parthiv Eshwara (talk) 08:56, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
The more I check the more proof I find. If you check the rising searches about Kane the 3rd,4th and 5th searches are about the IPL. Parthiv Eshwara (talk) 09:00, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- So? He's considered one of the best three international cricketers in the world. That's what we should focus on in this article, not that he plays the odd match for a franchise team. His IPL history can be summarised as:
- he first played in it in 2015
- he scored the most runs in 2018
- his average that year was good
- in every other season he's played in less than 10 matches
- That's it really. Summarise that in the article. In prose. That doesn't go "...and then he..." Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:16, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- <sarcasm>If you need an alternative to "...and then he did this..." I've often found that creating a one sentence paragraph starting "On 29 September, he did this" is a good start.</sarcasm>Spike 'em (talk) 12:24, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

KL Rahul
Appointing K.L Rahul as Vice captain for Indian International cricket team is lack notability? its clearly mentioned where and why he is appointed as the Vice captain. stop being biased.Jadan.r.jaleel (talk) 10:48, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
- If we mention every time that a cricketer with a long international career does anything then our articles will be lists of things rather than an actual summary which uses prose to write about someone's life and career. Which would be boring, tedious and lack any wit or style. And be rubbish. It's nothing to do with bias; it's everything to do with notability. Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:46, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
- Are you questioning the Notability of KL rahul becoming Vice captain? and How many are getting the opertunity to become vice captain of a nationa cricket team? not many. if the problem is in the summery place , then we can shift that to his career sub section.Jadan.r.jaleel (talk) 09:38, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I am questioning the notability of this temporary appointment for just the one-day team for one series. Because it's not really that notable in the grander sphere of things - if you consider articles such as Don Bradman or Adam Gilchrist - these are the direction we need to be heading towards in the long term with cricketer articles. Gilchrist was the long-term vice-captain of Australia - search on the word vice and see how that article deals with that; if it mentioned every time that Gilchrist did something it a) would be far too long; b) would be boring and c) wouldn't be a featured article.
- Spike already moved it to somewhere where it's much less offensive than in the lead - that's a considerable improvement, but it doesn't deal with the "and then he..." that impacts many, many articles, including Rahul's. Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:30, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

- So listen to what much more experienced editors like Harrias are telling you then and stop fucking around with infobox images. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:24, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
Ian Chappell
I recently add photo of Ian Chappell which u remove also for ur information my previous photo wasn't deleted its just nominated as i didnt add some information clearly Its not possible for Copyright claims on Televison Images taken 20 years back. Anyway I requested previous photo to not delete too. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 15:55, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- If it's an image of a TV programme then you have a major issue with it, per:
- Video stills have the same copyright as their source material. Derivative works are generally not permitted without the permission of the copyright holder, except in the case of Fair Use.
- Keep in mind that (like self-defense) fair use is an AFFIRMATIVE DEFENSE. By using it, you are admitting that you did it. A fair use claim won't necessarily KEEP you from being sued, rather it is a defense you can use AFTER being sued. It's not always clear-cut, and even if you win you still potentially have a five or six figure legal bill to pay.
- or
- You don't have the right to use someone else's content. Even if it is broadcast publicly (TV or the Internet). In some countries you have permission do to this under limited circumstances, such as for the purposes of discussing the source of the image (but not the subject).
- So, good luck with that. It's a crap photo anyway to be honest. He looks like a vicar. Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:17, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- (apologies for butting in) How about you stop all these problems by stopping uploading old, rubbish photos and linking to them? I've not seen one photo that you've added that is better than the ones there already. Spike 'em (talk) 19:41, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Sorry Spike 'em I will never upload anything on wikicommons from Now Please nominate my all Filesbfor deletion except Poster of May I Come In Madam? anyway Most of my edits are in Good faith and removing vandalism, Hughe appoligy as of Now. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 04:54, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
Morne Morkel
"Can't possibly have played for Brisbane in 20/21. We don't add teams until a player has made an appearance for them in a senior competition."
I get and appreicate that and didn't know the convention around waiting for their first appearance rather than contracts being signed.
I'd probably tone down the arrogance in comments though.
He is in the squad to play in 12 hours. A simple "Teams added after first appearance" would probably suffice.
Take care and stay classy BarcodeIII (talk) 20:04, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, it wasn't meant that way - but thanks for the suggestion. We get a lot of (I mean, really a lot) of players being added - often repeated time and again by the same editors. So it triggered my immediate reaction - which is a bit arsey, for sure. Apologies again and thanks for taking the time to stop by Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:40, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
No problem at all! Each WP Project has different conventions and I know in some sports they like to add affiliations as soon as the ink dries on the contract. BarcodeIII (talk) 21:58, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
