Thanks so much for the Barnstar!! That was very nice of you and your timing was perfect. I was feeling a little down this morning and that cheered me up tremendously. Thanks for making my day. Best, Johntex\talk 15:49, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

P.S.: As I just told BQ, I hope you can forget about the Alamo as you look towards the new year. Best, Johntex\talk 15:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
BTW, I copied/pasted the 2008 UT/A&M preview from the 2008 UT page to the 2008 A&M page. I made the obvious tweaks to re-purpose it (E.g. removed the wikilink to A&M, put in a wikilink to Texas Longhorns, swapped the order of the won/loss records, etc). Naturally you should feel free to edit as seems appropriate. It could probably use more info on the 2007 game itself. Also, when was the last time the Aggies won that game twice in a row? We should probably add that to both articles (and to the 2007 articles for that matter). I sure hope we can snap the string, but our running game seems to have taken a hit this week so that won't help. Johntex\talk 17:01, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Funny - I just got your message as I was leaving you the one above. I'd forgotten about this bracadocio. That is funny that you pulled that out of the archives. I will try to be more careful. I don't want to lose this year's bet!!!
The Holiday Bowl was very cathartic for us, definitely. We really just pummeled the Sun Devils like we did NOT to do anyone else all season (except Rice).
I think the SWC Big12 South will be extremely tough in 2008. You mentioned Tech but let's not forget about these guys. Like Texas, they return most of their starters. I think they will be the pre-season favorite for the conference, despite their spectacular implosion last night.
For UT, our 2008 schedule includes the top teams from the north also. We have to go into the frozen confines of Boulder and we have to play the 2007 north winner and we have to travel to see the Mangingo. Add in an impressive Florida Atlantic team fresh off a the fastest bowl win for a new program in NCAA history (on our opening day no less) and we should have a tough season.
I don't know where we will start the pre-season but your guess of top 10 is probably a good one. Of course, we started there this year and that and $3.00 would have bought us a cup of coffeee.
I do know that if we can somehow run the table on that schedule we would end up here. We'll see what happens. I can't wait. How many more days to the first game of 2008? Johntex\talk 17:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
  • 4 in a row from 91 to 94. Not that long ago. McWilliams and Macovic coaching for Texas. According to the UT football website, we played the 1994 game in early November.[1] I don't remember that at all. I wonder why we played so early. Do you recall?
Ah, Arky-State. We started with them in 2007, sleepwalked through the game, and needed an onsides kick to secure the win. Embarrasing. Let's hope you do better than we did. In fact, (raises glass) here's hoping for greater success to both our teams for the new year. I hope you go 12-1 with a single blemish there in late November. I suspect you may feel similarly!
I think Jamaal really does hurt us a lot. He had a rocky start to the year due to fumbles but he really started to pour on the explosive plays in some of the later games.
After Charles, Colt McCoy was actually our leading rusher for 2007. We had a decent freshman this year in Vondrell McGee so we'll see how he comes along as a sophomore if he starts getting the majority of the touches. We also have a mobile second-string QB in John Chiles. I'm not sufficiently well versed on our recruits to know who is coming in the new crop or who we have redshirted. I'll have to go do some research. Johntex\talk 19:49, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Colorado wasn't the 2007 North winner. Perhaps you meant 2006? MECUtalk 20:14, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Two different links. We have to go to the frozen confines of Boulder AND we have to play the 2007 North winner (Missouri). Both should be tough games for UT, I think. Johntex\talk 23:16, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

re: vince young and the wonderlic

the article being quoted currently is slanted one way.

here is another account from usatoday that is supported with multiple sources countering the contention: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/draft/2006-03-01-young-wonderlic_x.htm

here is one statement: "The NFL did its best to silence talk about Young's test. Combine officials said the score of 6 was inaccurate. Titans GM Floyd Reese said he'd heard the first test had been administered or graded incorrectly. Texans GM Charley Casserly also disputed Young's score Sunday, saying it was inaccurate."

but here is the countering statement: "ProFootballTalk.com broke the story of Young's score Sunday, and several NFL scouts confirmed it. Any score less than 15 is extremely low for a quarterback, and most teams want players at that position to score at least a 20."

so, on one hand, you have several NFL scouts saying one thing and verifying. on the other hand, you have the NFL and the titans saying another. now, it doesn't seem unclear what is going on here. the NFL and titans are attempting to portray young in the best light possible as a future NFL 'star'. it sounds like they quickly had him retest to avoid embarassment. the retest was taken the next day.

in any event, to display only the one angle on this is not serving the truth.

respectfully,

Re: Reggie McNeal (pt. 2)

I happened to have caught that same article earlier today and was thinking about the discussion we had about Reggie McNeal's status with the Argos last year.

That's is very interesting! His name is not listed anywhere on the Argos' roster page

Perhaps they have some sort of agreement in principle for McNeal to report to training camp ... maybe his status with the team is something that's gone unnoticed because of how far down the QB chart this guy is, I'm not sure!

As I said to you before, the Argos' transaction page is very lax ... and at times, so is their roster page (though not as bad as the transaction page IMO)! As such, I can never really gauge every single transaction that this team does based on the info they provide! I guess we'll have to stay tuned and see what transpires in June when the CFL training camps commence! If he is there as a fourth QB, I'll see if I can get an answer to McNeal's status between November til training camp by asking around with some of the Argo personnel there! Amchow78 (talk) 05:00, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

When I first heard about the re-acquisition of Reggie McNeal, you were the first guy I was thinking of! I was gonna make the edit & write a note to you first to break the news, but you already beat me to the punch! ;o) I guess that pretty much verifies my theory that I wrote above that that they likely had an agreement in principle, but would not announce/finalize the deal until a later date ... which would turn out to be today! Bad news, the List of Texas Aggie terms failed FL nomination. Negatives, we did not make it, positives, this article greatly improved. Ok, while he may be charged, but that is still different from being a convicted murderer, especially with the gruesomeness of this. KnightLago (talk) 02:57, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Ugh. I am sure it was a terribly sad thing for the Aggie community. I live far away and tend not to pay attention to stuff like this and I still heard about it - hence my starting the article I guess.
I agree with you that moving the article is the right thing to do. Should we go ahead and do that?
Since the article will be more about whole case, a little more info on the victim would probably make sense. Obviously we would like to be sensitive to the victim's family; but if they had a Silver Taps ceremony there would probably be some solid references there that we could use to say a little about her life. Johntex\talk 02:45, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Big 12 Championship

I think the way it is currently handled (going to the football championship) is the best way, for several reasons:
  1. To my knowledge, college football is the only Big12 sport that is decided by one championship game, as opposed to a tournament
  2. Wikipedia generally prefers shorter titles as much as possible. We have Colt McCoy not Colt McCoy (athlete) or Colt McCoy (college football player) - we should move to the more complex title only if we are forced to do so.
  3. Even if another sport has a championship game as part of the tournament, football is the most popular sport and most readers will be looking for football
  4. For readers that may find the football game while looking for basketball, we have a {{seealso}} link at the top of the page. Johntex\talk 07:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Another example is Texas A&M, which points to Texas A&M University. And University of Texas points to University of Texas at Austin. Sure, some people will be looking for other campuses, but most will be looking for the flagship campus so our current link does the most good for the most people. The others can use the {{seealso}} link to find what they were looking for. Johntex\talk 07:38, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I agree with all that. The "Big 12 Championship Game" title for the football game is fine. I actually meant to ask if we could disambiguate the Big 12 Championship article. Currently, it redirects to the football game. The Big 12 calls the whole basketball tournament under the same name.[3] BlueAg09 (Talk) 23:31, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Ah, interesting. That is the first time I have ever seen/noticed the basketball tournament called simply "Big 12 Championship". I thought they referred to it differently. I don't have strong feelings about this either way. My thinking is that the the {{seealso}} link is sufficient so that is my slight preference, but I don't really oppose a disambiguation page.
One correction to my earlier post, the UT and A&M pages are not actually using the {{seealso}} tag; UT uses {{redirect|University of Texas|other system schools|University of Texas System}}. The affect is similar but not identical.
Again, I don't really have a strong opinion. You could post on some pages and drum up discussion, or as far as I am concerned you could go ahead and move it if don't mind moving it back if people complain or get confused. Johntex\talk 23:23, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
It looks good to me, thanks! Johntex\talk 20:27, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball

I really do disagree with your premise that listing every year would confuse wikipedia readers. Given that schools typically like to list (they are usually listed in the media guide) every year they reach a certain round in the NCAAs, I do believe that the only advantage your idea holds is that it saves space. Obviously, with a program like Kansas' there are many years to list and the infobox can get quite long. I have looked up several other school's men's basketball programs on wikipedia and have found in some cases that every year they reached a particular round, the year is listed, regardless of whether or not that was the highest round they reached. Only NCAA and Pre-tournament National Championship banners, Final Four banners, and Conference Championship banners are hung in Allen Fieldhouse. This is not true for a programs such asKansas State's. Bramlage Coliseum, has banners for all conference championships, NCAA appearances, and each year the Wildcats reached a round, regardless of whether or not they finished the season in that particular round. I have found this to be the case at many other Big 12 basketball venues that I have visited personally.

As a fan of Kansas basketball, obviously I have no problem viewing lists of our storied history, however I do not have any interest in an edit war either.

Many thanks for your considerations —Preceding unsigned comment added by Demoares (talkcontribs) 02:27, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament

Sorry, that text is not correct; it is exactly the text before it was modified to remove the incorrect statement. The Big 8 Conference changed its name to the Big 12 when teams from the Southwest Conference (SWC) joined it after the SWC folded in the 1990s. The Big 12 is the same conference as the Big 8 conference; only the name changed. Since Kansas won a national title representing the Big 8 in 1988, it is incorrect to say that the conference has never won before. Would you please revert your edit. I prefer not to get into an edit war. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 03:36, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
