Queen James promotion

edit

Hello. You appear to be using Wikipedia for promotion (WP:PROMOTION). Until an article exists for that Bible translation (and remains, meaning that the translation is notable enough to have an article), it would be inappropriate to keep adding references to it on Wikipedia. Also, per WP:BRD, it is important to attempt to form consensus on the article's talk page instead of reinstating your changes once reverted. Thanks, —PaleoNeonate – 23:49, 7 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. —PaleoNeonate – 02:17, 8 October 2017 (UTC)PaleoReply

PaleoNeonate is wrong, I'm not promoting a Bible for sale but pointing out a Translation that uses the Divine Name, Jehovah. However because this bible is geared to the LGBTQ Community, NeoNate is acting out of Homophobia and intolerance towards those in the Community who also revere the divine name , Jehovah. As an LBTQ person myself, I am offended by PaleoNeoNate's actions towards me.— Preceding unsigned comment added by BigBrownOcelot (talkcontribs) 18:44, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Do you understand that, on Wikipedia at least, Jehovah is not the final (or even any) authority? It's fine that you're a believer but you've got to at least try to play by the rules around here. I'm going to make the same offer to you again: if you agree to start collaborating with other editors by using article talk pages and edit summaries, I will happily unblock you. Otherwise I have to conclude that you're not here to build a collaborative encyclopedia. A Traintalk 19:30, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

OK, I agree but the Queen James Bible does say Jehovah and all the other bibles listed show how many times, so what if it's not notable but it's still verifiable but OK, I'll follow your lead.— Preceding unsigned comment added by BigBrownOcelot (talkcontribs) 22:08, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

All right, you are unblocked and may now edit Wikipedia again. Please do me a huge favour and stick to the following:
  • Use edit summaries when making edits to help other users quickly understand what you did and why you did it
  • Use article talk pages to discuss potentially controversial edits and seek consensus before making them.
  • If someone reverts your edits, don't just revert them back. Here on Wikipedia this is known as edit warring.
If you continue to edit without communicating with other editors (like PaleoNeonate, who has definitely not said anything rude or homophobic to you that I have seen) then you're just going to be blocked again. Are we cool? A Traintalk 23:01, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

OK, This is the edit that I wanted to do with the "Jehovah" page on Wikipedia, "The Queen James Bible (2012) an LGBTQ edition of the King James Bible renders Jehovah in all the places where it appears in the Authorized King James Version." I know it's not a notable translation but it can be googled and is worthy of mention since it's related to the main topic. Another way I can make the edit without being controversial could be, "The Queen James Bible (2012), an alternative edition of the King James Bible renders Jehovah in all the places where it appears in the Authorized King James Version." I don't have to mention it being LGBTQ if you feel that may cause a stir with some readers.

I don't think that LGBTQ is the issue, only notability. Wikipedia is commonly accused of liberal, feminist and LGBTQ bias, because it attempts to have fair coverage of topics without censorship. We are also used to seeing people promote their own papers, books or group (see related pages conflict of interest and promotion) which if we did not resist would result in a directory (which Wikipedia is not per WP:NOTDIRECTORY). So notability establishes what can or cannot be included. —PaleoNeonate – 03:03, 9 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

So can I include the Queen James in your list, please? :(— Preceding unsigned comment added by BigBrownOcelot (talkcontribs) 23:52, 9 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

BBO, have you read PaleoNeonate's very sensible suggestion at the bottom of the page? We can help you get started writing a draft article about the Queen James Bible, and if you can get it up to a reasonable standard then we can an article about it in the Wikipedia main space. Then we can talk about including it in other articles. But it's going to take research and writing work on your part to make that happen. A Traintalk 16:04, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Noone removed it from the List of English Bible translations so far (if that is the list you were wondering about). However, it would be possible for someone to eventually remove it if it doesn't have an article (more details about this at WP:CSC and there is the essay WP:WRITEITFIRST). —PaleoNeonate – 17:07, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi BigBrownOcelot, per PaleoNeonate's report of your behaviour, I have temporarily blocked you. Wikipedia is a collaborative project which requires cooperation between users. You have been repeatedly inserting tendentious content without seeking consensus from your fellow editors first. If you will agree to start using article talk pages (such as Talk:Jehovah) to get consensus for your edits from the community, I will immediately unblock you.
I can't overstate how important it is that Wikipedia editors work collaboratively. It is absolutely fantastic that you are passionate about Wikipedia, and we want you here. But you have to play nicely with others. Please reply that you understand this. A Traintalk 10:52, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion

edit
Note that this has nothing to do with alleged homophobia. While I am heterosexual I do have gay and lesbian friends. I'm a proponent of "live, let live" and an agnostic who understands that no particular translation is holy.
Notability is an important policy for what can be included in the encyclopedia. What I suggest is to first create an article for the translation. If notability allows it to subsist, it possibly could be referenced elsewhere using the internal wikilink to its article. Also note that I have not removed all instances: insource:"Queen James Bible". So far, I think that List of English Bible translations is the most appropriate place to list it. However, again, as expected for list-class articles, items which are not notable enough to have an article are usually pruned off lists when doing maintenance cleanup.
Which is why I think that it'd be productive to write its article first. Following this red link should allow to create its draft: Draft:Queen James Bible. If doing so, I recommend to start by listing sources demonstrating notability at the bottom of the draft, such that it risks less being deleted by a patroller before it's ready. Thanks, —PaleoNeonate – 22:07, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Disruptive edits

The article American Standard Version should not be cluttered with irrelevant information about other versions or translations. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:21, 14 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

I thought it was relevant since an edition of the ASV was altered. It's on topic. BigBrownOcelot (talk) 01:10, 15 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

That is an article about the ASV. It is not an article about the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Tetragrammaton, or the New World Translation. Such information might be relevant in any of those three articles, but has no place in the article about the ASV. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:22, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
