Speedy deletion nomination of Hummer, Illinois

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing inappropriate pages, such as Hummer, Illinois, is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I'm prepared to believe that this is not a hoax, so I have declined the speedy deletion nomination, but I have proposed it for deletion, formal notice below, because I do not think it meets the Wikipedia:Notability requirement, which looks for references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." For that matter, it fails Wikipedia:Verifiability - your GNIS reference is for Eola, and searching GNIS, Geonames, Bing Maps, Google Maps and Google, I find references to Hummer Park but no confirmation that a neighborhood called Hummer exists.
You will see that you are permitted to remove the PROD template; in that case (unless better references have been supplied) I would nominate the article at WP:Articles for deletion, which would start a discussion normally lasting seven days, to which you would be welcome to contribute. The previous outcomes of similar discussions are explained at WP:NPLACE. JohnCD (talk) 11:37, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Hummer, Illinois

edit

The article Hummer, Illinois has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

if this "neighborhood and unincorporated community" exists, it is not notable. In fact the article fails WP:V - the GNIS reference given does not mention "Hummer", and searching GNIS, Geonames, Google Maps, Bing maps finds only a Hummer Park, but no reference to a neighborhood by that name.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Warning on dubious unsourced editing

edit

Please stop adding unsourced content. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Most of the content you have added to articles is completely unverifiable, even with extensive searching, and at least some of it is demonstrably false. It is difficult to avoid the conclusion that your editing is vandalism, but rather than blocking you immediately I am giving you the benefit of the doubt, and warning you to avoid making similar edits again.
