Copy edit of R. Hari Kumar
Here are a few notes on the copy edit of R. Hari Kumar:
- Watch the commas. There are two illustrative mistakes in
Kumar was born in Trivandrum, Kerala on 12 April, 1962.
It needs a comma after Kerala, which is a subordinate division (MOS:GEOCOMMA). Also, dmy dates do not have commas (MOS:DATEFORMAT). In a list of ships there was an extra comma which made it unclear if the INS Ranvir was Rajput-class or if this referred to two different ships. He is the alumnus
He probably isn't the only alumnus, so I think "an alumnus" is better.- We generally say "on" a date but "in" a week, month or year.
- There was a bit of overcapitalization, which we do see a bit of in new articles. Consider whether something is used in a generic or specific sense, whether or not it is a proper name. e.g.: "a shipping management course" is generic, while "MPhil in Defence & Strategic Studies" could be a specific degree granted by the institution. MOS:JOBTITLE indicates that titles like "executive officer" should be in lower case unless directly preceding a person's name, or unless the title is itself a proper noun like "Chief of Personnel of the Indian Navy". It's often a style in military reporting to capitalize terms (possibly influenced by German, where all nouns are capitalized) so be watchful for that in military articles.
- There was one sentence

- I played around with it a little more. There are only so many ways that you can state some things.
Optional extra things:
- Although the wordcount script doesn't count picture captions or the infobox, it's not a bad idea to apply some consistency there when you're taking an overall look at the article. Things like italicizing the ship names and excessive capitalization. I felt some of the captions were a bit long and tried to trim them down a bit.
- I added Template:Post-nominals for the honorific suffixes. It's something I like to do so they have a particular formatting as they are something of a special case with acronyms (ie: people like to include them first thing with the person's name but without an expanded form). If there is ever a decision to change the formatting, it'll be easier to change the template than to individually change tens of thousands of biography articles.
- There were some missing hyphens in the ship classes. To fix it required looking at {{sclass-}} and finding the correct parameter for the desired formatting.
I would suggest to try keeping an eye on commas and capitals, which are often trouble areas. I looked over some of your earlier copy edits, and TwoFingered Typist did as well, if you want to check the diffs on those. And you might want to leave a note at the requester's talk page or at the DYK nomination to let them know you finished the copy edit. It may be worthwhile to watchlist Template:Did you know nominations/R. Hari Kumar in case there are any other copy-edit-related concerns.
Hope I'm not overwhelming you – that's a lot of notes! If you haven't started one yet, keep yourself a little file of notes to remind yourself about different MOS practises, formatting tricks, template parameters, etc., for your own reference. There are a lot of little things that only apply to 1 in 20 articles, not enough to commit to memory but too often to repeatedly search for in the guidelines.

s(oops) I find in novels. (Sigh.) Some stuff I didn't know as a new editor to Wikipedia:- Tons of templates (aka {{Post-nominals}} (which you mentioned), {{tq}}, all the {{infobox}}es, and stuff like {{su}})
- Most of the MoS (before I knew there was one)
- And tons of other stuff that I'm probably forgetting to do.
- You're welcome! With commas, there are a lot of different styles for using them, and people who are used to writing outside of Wikipedia might not be used to how we do things. The MOS generally tries to ensure clarity, and we try to apply it consistently so articles look the same. I can go a bit crazy with MOS-adherence, but at the GA level articles only have to follow MOS for grammar, punctuation, lead, layout, words to watch, fiction, and lists. If you can improve more, that's great. But the MOS is huge, and it gets updated now and then, so I imagine very few people know all of it. – Reidgreg (talk) 13:55, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

March GOCE newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors March 2019 Newsletter
  Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2018. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2019, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work in January's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from all of the articles tagged in our original target months of June, July and August 2018, and by 24 January we ran out of articles. After adding September, we finished the month with 8 target articles remaining and 842 left in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 48 requests for copyedit in January. Of the 31 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the February Blitz. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 32 copyedits, including 15 requests. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: As of 23:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 108 requests since 1 January and the backlog stands at 851 articles. March Drive: The month-long March drive is now underway; the target months are October and November 2018. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Sign up here! Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. With the completion of our project banner project, we have a large backlog of unassessed articles. Doing article rating is a great way to find interesting articles with-in our project's scope and to also find articles that were incorrectly tagged. This project will hopefully let us better monitor and aid in the development the many articles that this project supports. Thanks to Legoktm for all his work in making this happen.

MrLinkinPark333 recently pointed out that on some of our Top importance pages about Children's literature awards there are many redlinks. The three pages with these redlinks are Caldecott Medal, Newbery Medal, and Carnegie Medal (with 0 existing redlinks in the other top importance award article - Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award). As of this newsletter there are 222 redlinks in those three articles. How many can we as a project create over the next 6 weeks? Could we even do better and see if we could create any that earn a Did You Know or even get it up to Good Article status?
