Vandalism

Arbitrarily changing the links to all University of Texas articles to include the word, "The" is vandalism. Whether the word is a part of the official title or not is irrelevant. The conventional usage within the Wikipedia is to include the word in the title and to exclude it in the link. The usual search would exclude the word for most people, and to necessitate redirect pages for each case where you decide to include the word is a waste of resources. Please desist... Okay, I see what you mean by the link. So, it would be more appropriate to capitalize the first letter in "The" but leave it out of the link. Right?

The fact is, Dean Davis DID work to improve the quality of the students, faculty, and facilities. This is undeniable and extremely well-sourced. In fact, the institution very likely would not have survived but for Dean Davis. He essentially saved what became UTA.

I agree that some unsavory aspects of his character have come to light, and I have absolutely no problem with the addition of this information. It should be part of the record. However, we should not censor/remove other previously existing information that happens to be positive about a person because of the existence of something negative. It is not puffery, it is part of the historical record. I refer you to additional information. Please see "Transitions A Centennial History of The University of Texas at Arlington 1895 - 1995" by the highly respected Gerald D. Saxon. Read chapter 5 that starts on page 53. Evidence of Davis' contributions is all right there. Published and documented by a highly regarded professor and UTA librarian. Let me also refer to another published book, "University of Texas at Arlington" by Evelyn Barker and Lea Worcester, copyright 2015. The reference to Dean Davis is short, so I will, as a courtesy to you, quote page 36.

"Dean E. E. Davis arrived on campus in summer 1925 with a no-nonsense attitude toward renewing a sadly deteriorating physical plant, ridding the student body of students that lacked esprit de corps, and purging the faculty of incompetents. He began a 20-year building program and, with difficulty, built a new library (now College Hall) and a science hall (now Preston Hall) during the 1920s. His stern requirement of high scholarship standards and behavior resulted in 102 of 456 students leaving or being expelled due to bad grades or infractions during the school year. He replaced more than half of the 40 faculty members with younger, energetic, and relatively inexperienced teachers. Before he retired in 1945, Davis led the college through the Great Depression, World War II, and positioned the school for yet another major step, to become a four-year college. I stand by it, and hope the references and even direct quotes from published sources is helpful.
