Syrian civil war detailed map

You must specify the source that would confirm that these citys under control Syrian troops. But you identified as the source only map, which not shows who controls citys that you add. Hanibal911 (talk) 12:53, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

I know. Opposition has only two villages in west of Homs : Alzara and Alhusn. But you need sources which sometimes is difficult because these villages were always under SAA control and were never under conflict. Barcaxx1980

Here's a table of sizes for cities and villages for displayed on the map. I hope now you will no longer make mistakes.

• Under 5,000 is size 6
• 5000 to 19,999 is size 8
• 20,000 to 49,999 is size 10
• 50,000-99,999 is size 12

tow corrections are needed:

Akakir instead of Khanazir!!

and Al-Qabu size should be 8. It it one of the major villages in the area. It had 4800 since 2004. It has for sure about 9000 now. barcaxx1980

Reliable sources

Channel Al Mayadeen it is not entirely reliable source since it is considered that channel supported the Syrian government. We do not use pro government sources to display the advances of the Syrian army but also we dont use pro opposition sources to display of the rebel advances. In this regard, I have to ask you not to use to change Al Mayadeen, Press TV, Fars News, Al Manar, Al Alam, Syrian TV and SANA. That would not provoke the other participants on the use of pro opposition sources to display the rebels advances. I hope for your understanding. Hanibal911 (talk) 16:36, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

However I know Almayadeen is supporting the Syrian government, but it is far different from the other channels you mentioned in reliability. barcaxx1980

This means that you cant twice within 24 hours the revert changes one of the editors if you do not have the other information by this change. Counter-vandalism

Hi, as you may have seen, I had reverted several times unsourced edits by Sopher, as he was adding towns to the map without any specific source, only using an August 2013 country map without towns on it (except the 5 or 6 major Syrian cities). The problem is he reverts my edits constantly with poor excuses, even trying to blackmail me by asking me to revert other user edits to revert hes own ones. I've tried dialogue to make him understand he cant do that, but he refuses compromise unless the compromise is accepting his vandalism. Furthermore, some naive users seems to accept that behaviour, but if other user do the same, they revert him, a clear double standard. As we all know, 1RR in enforced on the map, so I can only revert one time every 24-hours. So , due to the long historial of vandalism & POV-pushing by that user, I propose you to coordinate between us to revert all the vandal edits he made (adding towns without specific sources, misinterpretate sources, etc...). I don't get it, what would you like me to see there? I don't see any response from you to my comments on there, unless they were wiped by someone else. Kami, Those villages I added west of Homs and Hamah belong to the Syrian army, This area is a mixture of Alawites, Christians, Ismaili, Mushdi and Sunni, and it was under the Syrian army control since the beginning, with no change at all because Alawites are the majority here.--Barcaxx1980 (talk) 09:56, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Anyway, when I Added those villages I used many sources such as two documentary program, pages from wiki about this conflict, Aljazeera study about Masyaf, a map from opposition site admits that they control only two villages west of Homs (which are added by the way)..etc. But unfortunately some guys (esp. Sopher99) didn't like that the Syrian regime has these territories, so he kept deleting them time after time. In fact, his main reason to do that was that some guys (not me) refused that he was taking villages from ISIS and giving them to FSA. They said that this is not true and with no source, so to make his revenge he deleted my edit, while I was not against him at all.--Barcaxx1980 (talk) 09:56, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

However, what we really need in this map is a good illustration of the situation in Syria. What I see is that we add villages that FSA controls (because some website like "Syrian Observatory For Human Rights" likes these news) and then we convert them to red only if the syrian army took them. This gives the impression that it is like FSA controls everywhere and SAA controls only some villages and cities taken from FSA. What I am trying to do here, after I asked for adding the differences between FSA and ISIS (when we added the black color), is to shows the power of each party on land and not to show what we like to see.--Barcaxx1980 (talk) 09:56, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Now, what I ask for it to forgot out bias to one party and focus on depicting the real situation on ground, and as we show that the north is mostly controlled by FSA we should show that the west is controlled by SAA. Idlib

Hey Barcaxx I understand that professional sources are extremely important in such a polemical and fluid situation such as Syria, but regarding the ISIS vs rebel, opposition sources such as the arab chronicle and aksalser have generally proved useful. There is a scarcity of sources in general regarding the battle in Syria, and even more so regarding the rebels vs ISIS. Opposition sources have admitted losses to ISIS nearly each time they did lose.

I am just saying maybe its more helpful to self-revert your reversion of TheoDor12, and if there is a denial by the ISIS side that they left Idlib (usually ISIS doesn't deny their real losses) we will revert. Sopher99 (talk) 22:18, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Dear Soper99, please just add another source and it will be fine. Believe me I am from Syria and I know these websites sucj as Aks Alseer, they were under control of some intelligence system before this civil war and ther were devided in two aks alseer websites after the war, and now each one is like a unprofessional website. I think this very important information in Idleb, wher FSA has its power, must be mentioned in other reliable sources. If you will insist to add this information, I will not stop you. Your behavior with respect to map deletion discussion

I know you mean well when you act or write to defend the map, however your behavior has not been helpful:

1-There was never a consensus for your move to an article which created a deletion nomination. I was able to close that and moved back the template. Your move was not correct as a map cannot be an article on its own. Please do not make radical moves like that in the future without consulting with other editors on the talk page. I have a plan to address the template deletion discussion, so let me handle this...

2-Your comment at the template deletion discussion ("I am sure you have other resons to delete this map. go play somewhere else. We will create it again if you dare.") is counterproductive. Making personal attacks and threatening to create a deleted item can only anger the administrators and increase the likelihood of a deletion. I have now deleted your comment. Let's not play with fire... Like i said before, I have a plan to address the template deletion discussion, so let me handle this... Tradedia^talk 02:07, 2 March 2014 (UTC) (the creator of the map)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge!
