Why can't I edit some particular pages?

Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.

How do I create citations?

1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

Please do not add commentary, your own point of view, or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Mass killings under communist regimes. @Czello This is not commentary. It is the fact that is known to all historians. Bengal famine of 1943 is historically attested fact, I can provide you sources. The claim made by the person in the previous line was blatantly false. If it is allowed to be published there, then my sentence should be allowed to be published there too. Leaving aside from the fact that "famines under capitalist regimes" are not equatable to "famines caused by communism", ultimately you didn't provide a source. @Czello Many famines in India under British rule happend directly because of capitalism. Under "free market" policies, British government did not sent food grains to famines stricken parts of the country and allowed the food to be exported out when people were starving. They also restructured the village economy to produce cash crops for exports, instead of food crops, which reduced the self sufficiency of the villages. This is, again, WP:OR. It also is irrelevant to the issue of deaths under communism - you're essentially making a whataboutism argument. Ultimately, if the sources say that communist policies have caused famine, then that's what we report. It's not our job as editors to try to disprove them. — Czello 08:01, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Balrajsingh776, thank you for your post. I have re-examined my edit, reinstated most of what I had deleted and struck out my warning above.
The exception is the opinion piece cited to Researchpaedia, which does not appear to be a reliable, independent, publisher with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. As shown in this search Researchpaedia is not currently used in any Wikipedia article (the only use is on this page). I am not sure why I deleted the section headers, I think I was confused by your moving around of sections, for which I apologise - best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 10:01, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia is only interested in what has already been published in reliable sources, which need to be cited in order to support information added to our pages. It is not up to me, any other editor, or the reader, to find reliable sources for you.

Thank you for starting this article on Dalip Singh Majithia. There are a number of references, although many of them are news articles with similar content published at the time of his death. Nevertheless, there is some earlier coverage, and he and Joan Sanders Majithia seem to have had some celebrity in India. I've switched many of the references to use citation templates, which might help over time with managing 'link rot'; it also helps to acknowledge authors of the articles (in a few places).
