Draft:Ara Topouzian

edit

I assume it was you who asked in #wikipedia-en-help about Draft:Ara Topouzian. That draft has a range of problems. While at a glance it looks well-sourced, some of those references are less than reliable. For example, Elon University lauding their own professor's work is not an independent source and likely not subject to meaningful editorial oversight. While PanArmenian.net looks like a news site, I couldn't find any information on authorship and no indication on what kind of editorial staff, if any, they have. TheArmenianWeekly has that information - but the author doesn't seem to have any education or experience in journalism, and the best I can find out about the editor is that she has a bachelor's degree in English. That's not really inspiring confidence. It may be better to focus on sources that clearly are reliable and to omit the more dubious ones. What I'd also get rid of is the lengthy quote of Topouzian. The purpose of an encyclopedia article is to provide neutral information about a subject, not to serve as a platform for their own views. Finally, you should make sure that the draft correctly summarizes what the sources report. At several points I found that the sources did not back up the draft's content, at worst even contradicting it. Conversely, basic biographical information reported by your own references didn't make its way into the Wikipedia article. Making sure that the draft is an appropriate summary of what independent sources report is particularly important if, as your username suggests, you are Topouzian - writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged due to the inherent conflict of interest, and you'll have to make doubly sure that you summarize what reliable sources have reported about you; otherwise it may seem as if you're just spinning a tale that's not really backed up by independent facts.
