Invasive weed optimization algorithm

edit

The article you wrote on invasive weed optimization algorithms does not explain what they are and it has no references. Given that there are also no Google hits, the article may possibly be deleted. I suggest you try and improve it. Best wishes, Jitse Niesen (talk) 14:50, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear Jitse
Thanks for your message on IWO. This is Ali Reza Mehrabian from Tehran, Iran. I am a graduate student of Mechanical Engineering at University of Tehran, Iran. I am a new user of Wikipedia. I need some time to learn how to write articles. I am learning its features. I will appreciate if you assist me in writing and completing my article.
About invasive weed optimization algorithm, yes you are right. It is uncompleted, and it does not have any references. I have invited this algorithm from a natural event, which is weed colonization. For references, my paper will be published by Ecological Informatics Journal in near future (it is accepted for publication). I am writing an article on Wikipedia to introduce my method to people and scientists to use the algorithm for solving their problems and suggest improvements to it. So please be patient, since it needs time to be completed.
Thanks,
ALI REZA
P.S. Kindly let me know how I can have a personal page in Wikipedia like yours.

Dear Ali,

Sorry, I didn't realize that you are new here. Yes, it takes a while to learn the basics of Wikipedia. and a lot of time to learn everything. Some people use a standard welcome message, which includes the following links that you might find helpful if you haven't come across them yet:

The standard message also tells you to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date when you press the Save button.

Your personal page is at User:Armehrabian. Click on that link and you can edit it. At the very top of every page, there is a row of links "Armehrabian — my talk — my preferences …"; the first link goes to your personal page.

Now, back to the IWO page. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, and hence it is not meant to be used to introduce your method to others, however worthy a goal that may be. An encyclopaedia only summarizes the current knowledge. This is spelled out in more detail in Wikipedia:No original research. In your case, the article has undergone peer review which is probably enough to satisfy this policy. In any case, you should add your paper (just say that's "accepted for publication"). If the paper is also submitted to a preprint server, or if you have a home page which has this paper, please also include the URL.

You might have a look at some related pages like Evolutionary algorithm. It would be great if you could improve them.

All the best, Jitse Niesen (talk) 13:52, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear Jitse
Thank you very much for your kind email and information. As the first step I added references to the article on Particle swarm optimization. I will add more information as soon as I find some more time.
Kindest regards,- ALI REZA 21:05, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your warm greetings

I'm not on the official welcoming committee, but I'll extend a personal welcome to Wikipedia. Before long someone will leave a message here with helpful links to guide you through the maze of tools, policies, and conventions. It's nice to know Tehran has access to Wikipedia; such an ancient center of civilization surely has much to contribute.

One of the strict policies here is a quality control measure called "no original research", which was implemented because we were getting an over-abundance of crank theories presented as reputable science. Rather than try to decide for ourselves what was valid and what was not, we chose the rule that in case of doubt there must be reputable published sources — such as peer-reviewed journals — attesting to the validity. In other words, we let the scientific/academic/journalistic community decide. It was overwhelming trying to find adequate expertise and time to decide for ourselves.

In the case of your invasive weed optimization algorithm, the consequence of this policy is that it will probably be necessary to wait for the journal publication to appear before we can accept the topic as a Wikipedia article. Please be patient with our limits.

Meanwhile, please feel free to ask questions at the village pump, and help us improve our existing articles.

If you would like to reply to this message, it is best to do so here. The common convention is to indent the paragraphs of a reply by beginning each with a colon (":"), as illustrated below.

This is how to write a reply. Sign and date it automatically with four tildes ("~~~~"), which the software will magically convert to the right thing.

I'll put your talk page on my watchlist so I can stay in touch. If you would like to put some information on your user page, use the tab at the top of this page, or click here. Edit it as you would any page. --KSmrqT 14:12, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request for edit summary

edit

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:05, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Invasive weed optimization algorithm, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Invasive weed optimization algorithm. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. --Gwern (contribs) 17:52, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
