Nicki Minaj lead section edit

Hi. My recent edits try to get the lead section simple and less chart-driven, like Rihanna's intro. Is overkill read Hot 100 over and over. She will have a fourth album (maybe chart-topping) with top tens. Would we mention the chart agains? Cornerstonepicker (talk) 22:11, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Annvarie: now the description is vague, pop crossover means the rapper has entered another market with that music style. If you write 'rap crossover' is misleading, since she's a rapper and can't crossover to rap. Pop crossover is easy to understand. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 05:04, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I guess we need a third opinion. @SNUGGUMS: Sorry to bother, but we are discussing the term 'pop crossover successful singles' for Minaj lead. Several sources (cited on the article)[1][2][3] have highlighted her pop crossover success with "Superbass" and "Starships", being her most comercially successful singles I think it should be included. Pop crossover since she's a rapper (main genre) and started in the pop market after those songs, with both being described as "pop-rap" and "electropop", respectively. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 05:32, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Minaj has been deemed as "Pop" since her debut into mainstream music. Even her article lists her as such. What exactly is the point of highlighting that Super Bass and Starships are pop if the article states that she is pop. It is misleading as it gives the impression that Minaj's only pop songs are SB+SS. The "pop crossover" desription works for an artist like Taylor Swift who's first venture in mainstream music was country before dabbling into pop a few albums later. This is not the case for Minaj who has had pop material since her first album and even on her mixtapes (although this doesn't really count). Annvarie (talk) 05:43, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I don't see the need to highlight crossover songs in the lead to be honest. My answer would be maybe if this was for albums, but song genres are better for article body. Snuggums (talk / edits) 05:53, 5 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Black Barbies edit

It is a stand-alone release on iTunes and Spotify: it is a single (iTunes is enough source either way). There is no source for it being a "promotional single", and radio release isn't needed: it is only needed when an album was released. There's a guideline in WP that states just because something isn't A means it is B. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 15:00, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

All stand-alone songs are listed as a "single" on itunes (i.e. Stupid Hoe) but it does not mean it's a single in the literal sense. It just means that it's a single song. There is no source for it being a "single" in the same way that there is none for it being a "promo single". Well, the promo single section seems like the best place to put it seeing that the song itself wasn't even listed on the page before it became commercially available. And yes a radio release is needed. Which single has ever not been released to radio at some point? Annvarie (talk) 15:08, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's is a single released for digital download and streaming, it's not a radio single. The source are both iTunes and Spotify. For example, Drake's Pop Style and Fake Love weren't released to radio, and are singles. Not all urban singles are released to radio, most of them are send for radio adds when are taking over the other metrics. In WP, users use "Promotional singles" section for songs available to purchase when an album is available for pre-order. "Single songs" belongs to the "Singles" section. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 15:19, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Where is the source though? When has it ever been announced as such. Itunes lists all songs as such. By the way, it sounds like those Drake songs mentioned are promo singles as well. The songs was only made commercially available for profits by Mike. Which is why it was released on his label. And promo singles are not only songs from an album (ie Roman in Moscow). I think we should wait to see what happens with the song. Probably it should be removed from the page completely until then. It seems odd to place it in the single section category when it was only just put on itunes. Annvarie (talk) 15:27, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
And Spotify.. People read "Black Barbies - Single" there, readers won't feel that odd at all. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 17:57, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Again, that is the case for every song that has been released on iTunes/Spotify as a stand alone track. It doesn't mean single in the literal sense. Stupid Hoe, Roman in Moscow, etc. are read as "singles" also but they're only promotional tracks. We should wait to see what happens with the song in the future or if the track is just left hanging only to make profits. Annvarie (talk) 18:57, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

So I guess the new Fetty Wap (feat. Nicki) song on iTunes isn't a single either? Cornerstonepicker (talk) 10:24, 9 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
The two aren't even comparable as the Fetty song will undoubtedly be sent to radio (Keep an eye on allaccess). Besides, it's easier to establish that a feature is a single. In any case, lets see what happens. Annvarie (talk) 18:14, 9 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
