Welcome!

edit

Hello, Annesobol, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! 331dot (talk) 15:46, 24 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I put a COI declaration in, I think! Do you think I'm disqualified from pursuing Richard B. Sobol American civil rights lawyer? I'm spending quite a lot of time on this and if it's going to be fruitless I'd like to know. Annesobol (talk) 17:15, 24 May 2021 (UTC)AnnesobolReply

I am sorry to hear of your loss. You are not disqualified from submitting a draft to be reviewed by an independent editor- but I will caution you that it will not be an easy process and that many editors that are unconnected with their subjects become frustrated and upset by the process. I don't want to see that happen to you. I will inform you that reviewers will likely look at it as dispassionately as possible, and may sound harsh, but will not mean it that way. It looks like someone has assisted you by moving the draft to a better title(Draft:Richard B. Sobol) and providing the means through which you can submit it. Before you submit it, I would suggest that you review Your First Article for specific information as to what will be looked for. 331dot (talk) 17:41, 24 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Want to put in some footnotes with citations, but after pulling up the draft by putting this in url https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Richard_B._Sobol, I'm not able to edit this draft. Also, have been encouraged to write five sentences with citations as an exercise in producing an article that meets wiki standards, but not clear where I would post that. Any help appreciated.Annesobol (talk) 15:26, 26 May 2021 (UTC)AnnesobolReply

I found how to edit the draft.Annesobol (talk) 15:29, 26 May 2021 (UTC)AnnesobolReply

Please set aside for the moment the correctness of my cite and focus only on what I tried and failed to do. (1) I tried to insert a fn that explained that in Louisiana counties are called parishes. (2) I thought I'd see if I got a better reception if I dropped case names into fn. Then I got this message at the first attempted fn. A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page) Now I can't see the text with my attemepts at edit in order to try to make sense of the explanation at the help page. I was trying to edit and add two fns at once. Is this the problem?Annesobol (talk) 19:24, 26 May 2021 (UTC)AnnesobolReply

Is tag is missing the closing supposed to be your answer to my questions? If so, I dont understand. When I was able to see what I typed to make the fns, I believe I had all the required elements.Annesobol (talk) 19:33, 26 May 2021 (UTC)AnnesobolReply

Could I have my draft categorized as American civil rights lawyer?Annesobol (talk) 18:35, 15 June 2021 (UTC)AnnesobolReply

Hi. Sorry for your loss. We don't categorize drafts. Please stop putting "Annesobol" after the four tildes.   — Jeff G. ツ 17:36, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your input. I was invited to categorize my draft when I submitted it, and I did so: civil rights, law and biography. At one point I looked at a list somewhere on the wikipedia site and saw my draft in a cue in both civil rights and law. I guess I finally get it, sign with the four tildes, don't put my name. Thank you for your help with this.Annesobol (talk) 17:47, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome. I added a category with a prepended colon; you may remove that colon when the article is approved. See also WP:THREAD.   — Jeff G. ツ 17:50, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Drafting an article on the LCDC

edit

Dear Mrs Sobol,
I am writing this in hopes that you might still occasionally login to your Wikipedia user account and that you will therefore see the present post.
First of all, I would like to send you my belated condolences for your loss. I also wanted to congratulate you on the successful publication of the Wikipedia article about your late husband, Richard B. Sobol. I became aware of his work from watching the documentary A Crime on the Bayou at the PBS channel (via Sky UK) a few days ago, then found your article here on Wikipedia and realised it had been published only a few months ago.
I also noticed that there currently isn't an article here on Wikipedia about the LCDC, and I was wondering whether you might have any plans to create one. If so, then I'd like to offer my editorial assistance if you think it might be helpful. But if you don't intend to develop such an article yourself, then I'd like to have a go at drafting it, and perhaps you might consider participating in that effort in an advisory capacity, as I imagine you might have access to useful source materials?
Thank you for your consideration, Mrs Sobol, and for letting me know of your intent, whenever convenient.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 16:37, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Patrick, thanks for getting in touch, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I'm not going to do a wiki about LCDC, but I'd be glad to share info with you. It would be easier for me to communicate about LCDC via email. My email is anne.sobol@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you. Annesobol (talk) 22:45, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
