Proposed deletion of David Chass

The article David Chass has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

Before putting a lot of effort into this, make sure you understand Wikipedia's WP:Notability requirement. From the previous version, it is not obvious to me that he qualifies. Wikipedia is not a listing directory, and is selective about subjects for articles: it does not expect to have an article about every successful marketing executive, any more than every singer, business or website. The criterion is called WP:Notability, and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people independent of the subject thought him important and significant enough to write substantial comment about? There is more detail in WP:Notability (people).

The next important thing to understand is that Wikipedia, being vulnerable to being used as a free promotion platform, is extremely resistant to being used in that way. Anything that looks like promotion will get deleted. An encyclopedia article is quite a different thing from a Myspace or LinkeIn entry or a personal website. Experience shows that people from a marketing background in particular find it extremely hard not to write PR-speak, or to realise when they are doing that. (I recently had an article containing "friendly and knowledgeable staff... dedicated Customer Service team... unique refurbishing process... Benefits of Shopping with XYZ... Earn XYZ bucks with every purchase..." whose author protested that it was "not meant to be a form of advertisement by any means.") You must absolutely put out of your mind any idea that you are writing in order to "sell" or promote your subject. That is why I suggest that you do not try to modify the existing text, but dump it and start again.

One of Wikipedia's fundamental policies is WP:Verifiability, which requires that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source." When you write any glowing adjective, or indeed any claim, imagine a hostile critic looking over your shoulder saying "Who says so? Can you prove it?" Read WP:PEACOCK on unsupported promotional words to avoid.
