Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Welcome!

edit

Hello, Ammanrotana, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Rotana Amman, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms our use and policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:42, 16 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your username

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Ammanrotana", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because usernames which might imply they represent a company, business or some other organization (such as Rotana Amman or Hotel Amman Rotana) are not allowed per WP:PROMONAME.. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:43, 16 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Wikipedia:Teahouse, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button   located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Orange Mike | Talk 17:58, 16 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Requested username:

Request reason:

I need to correct the information on a wikepedia page. I am not getting paid to do this. The page belongs to a chain of hotel called Rotana, the specific one I'd like to correct is Amman Rotana. There is no conflict of interest because I will be stating fact found on other websites as well. none of the informtation will be from my personal opinion. The corrections are fully objective. Also I did not know that my username is a violation of Wikipedia policy. I am not trying to advertise, promote or any of that. if it makes things better, I will share my corrections with you and related sources before I add them to the page itself.

Decline reason:

You clearly have a conflict of interest in this subject area and your existing edits have been completely inappropriate. Additionally, your new suggested username is no better. You are welcome to request another unblock, but you'll need to pick an appropriate username and agree to refrain from editing about Amman Rotana and the hotel industry in general. (talk) Please advise on how can the correct information be posted then? How can this error be fixed as well: The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline. Please help to establish notability by citing reliable secondary sources that are independent of the topic and provide significant coverage of it beyond a mere trivial mention. If notability cannot be established, the article is likely to be merged, redirected, or deleted. Find sources: "Amman Rotana" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR (October 2018) (Learn how and when to remove this template message). I don't want to do it myself if you think it will cause a conflict of interest, but it is the hotel's right to have a proper Wikipedia page online no? So please do let me know how can this be done. Thank you. (Ammanrotana (talk) 15:15, 21 October 2018 (UTC))Reply

No, it certainly is not the right of any company for there to be a Wikipedia article about them. If impartial, third-party sources have written substantial coverage of them, then somebody without a conflict of interest will eventually notice this and volunteer to write an article about them. If not, then no harm is done. Note: "an article about them" is not the same as "their article"; we don't care what the subject has to say about themselves, we care what other, more impartial sources with a deserved reputation for reliability have to say about them, for good or ill. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:28, 21 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
