prawns & cameroon

bof. It seems quicker to remove something than to add it. :( . I put the picture near the first sentence about prawn in the article... you remove it, explaining it is not adequate as first picture. Ok. I take care of your edit... put it on the second sentence about prawns. (Repetition denotes importance of this fact for cameroon article... I have no doubt that you, like a good small soldier, will remove one sentence now). You remove it for another reason... :( Do you want to initiate an edit war? No thanks! Please note that this is not a simple picture of prawn. it is a prawn form wouri estuary, that mean an illustration of the subject. But i do not know why i spend my time here... Chacun chez soi et les vaches seront bien gardées. Tatoute 09:07, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I posted on Talk:Cameroon why I removed the picture. If you wish to discuss whether the picture belongs or not, please go there. Il n'y a pas de problème! :) — Amcaja (talk) 11:24, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

WAF

Amcaja, I'd appreciate any input you could provide here with regard to this. I don't think this change has consensus (at least not with me). Instead of reverting, I commented there so that we can establish consensus on this. I'm currently making the round to "canvass" for some input and since I value your opinion, I decided to notify you alongside several other more or less regular contributors to WT:WAF. — [ aldebaer] 23:27, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

regarding articles on cameroon

Hi Amcaja

(I don't know if I'm totally breaking the rules on wikipedia by doing this, as I'm not familiar with all the protocols etc. So apologies in the event that I am.)

My name is Luke Mosse and I'm a musician based in Bristol, UK. I'm about to start a PhD at SOAS in London in ethnomusicology.

I'm getting in touch because I'm currently organising this project:

www.wimwam.net

which is basically a documentary project showcasing percussionists who are based in Bristol. You can find out all about the project by having a look on the website, in particular if you have a look at the 'artists' page you'll see some of the percussionists that are involved.

One of our guys, Alphonse, is from Cameroon and plays Balafon.

As part of opening the site up and making it a bit more interesting, I'm inviting people from all over to write articles for the blogs section. I can see that you've posted quite a few articles already on wikipedia on the subject of Cameroon and it's music, I was wondering if you'd be interested in submitting something for our website. Obviously as it's not an encyclopedia, you could write something with a bit more of a personal slant and more of an opinion.

If you've got any piece that you think would be appropriate or you'd like to write one, then hit me back with your ideas and I'll respond ASAP. I'm flexible as to what I put up there, but really the aim is stuff that's accessible and informative, and useful for people who want to find out more about Cameroon.

Let me know if it's something that appeals,

Best wishes

Luke Mosse. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lukemosse (talkcontribs) 11:18, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Revert on Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo Co., Ltd.

Could you explain this revert? It's a duplicate of ref 34 with an invalid accessdate. Pagrashtak 17:03, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Oops; should be fixed now. The problem was that the article's web references were not formatted the same way as the book references. The article is set up with short-form footnotes followed by long-form references in bibliography order (alpha by author where available, then alpha by title when not). Now the web refs should follow the same formatting as the others. Thanks for the note. — Amcaja (talk) 21:53, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Why force the reader to take the extra step? Contrast The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages where I cite books as you do, but one-shot refs are listed directly in the Notes section. Pagrashtak 19:23, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Because to me, the full-form references in the "Notes" section are an imposing wall of text. My eyes glaze over looking at them. I'd much rather have small, easily digestible notes followed by meaty, full-form references in alphabetical order. I realize it's just a personal preference, but it mirrors actual scholarly literature, and I don't think it's any more or less useful than the Zelda article you point out. :) — Amcaja (talk) 22:01, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, it doesn't make much difference in the end, as long as the references are available. If you had twenty references of that nature, I'd feel more strongly about it. I'm glad to see you maintaining your articles so well; I'm always noticing you reverting and tweaking Donkey Kong (video game). I see you don't have a featured article medal, although you deserve one, so please take this:
  The Featured Article Medal
For the contribution of several featured articles, such as Donkey Kong (video game), as well as diligence in their maintenance, I hereby award Amcaja the Featured Article Medal. Pagrashtak 14:10, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Cool, thanks! Unfortunately, I seem to have written a sufficiently large number of articles that maintaining them noticeably takes away from the time I have available to devote to article creation and expansion. But I guess there are worse problems to have. :) — Amcaja (talk) 22:16, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

WAF

Over the last days, User:G.A.S and me have been working on a careful rewording of the intro, which we are now jointly proposing here. Since you've been recently active on WT:WAF, I think the proposal may be of interest to you and we both would appreciate your input. Also, {{BASEPAGENAME}}, please forgive the timesaving templated wording. — aldebaer 20:22, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Speedy Gonzales

Amcaja, you can say that Speedy Gonzales is an Academy Award winning cartoon character, because one of his cartoons won an Academy Award. Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, and Pepe Lapu are all considered Academy Award Winners. *Jbill007* , 3 October 2007 (UTC)

No, Warner Bros. studios is considered the Academy Award winner in those cases. Think of it this way: Happy Feet won an Academy Award for Best Animated Picture. This does not make Elijah Wood, one of its voice actors, an Academy Award-winning actor. — Amcaja (talk) 21:57, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Mr. Smithson, I see where you had speedily deleted my disputed tag on the above referenced article. I assure you I come in good faith. I also see that you had not commented on the talk page before removing this tag. I invite you to dialogue on the talk page so that we can allay each others concerns about the article. I also plan on asking that the article be reviewed to see if it merits continuing as a good article. I look forward to hearing your views, Cordially,Die4Dixie 14:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

I really apologize. When i went back to the pag after thinking i had put the tag, it wasn't there. I looked at the log, and saw your last edit summary and jumped to an erroneous conclusion, and I'm truly sorry. I retract my earlier comment except that before Iproceed, I want to have input. Again, I'm sorry, and I look forward to working with you.Die4Dixie 14:36, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I have midterms right now. I'll be back soon. Maybe we could consider putting the claim of a black origin for the song up at the beginning when we say that it came out of blackface. I saw in your material that it was alleged that the dialect was "heavy", which I don't know that we can take to mean exaggerated. A thick accent, or, heavy Scots dialect is spoken by some Scottish people(My mother is Scottish, and I lived there for four years when I was in boarding school). The people who spoke in those Scots dialects, although heavy , were still authentic, but not exaggerated: they really spoke that way. I suppose that we could say that the lyrics, since you research bears out that the particular minstrels( Emmett et al.) were some of the more careful, were written in a phonologically correct form of contemporary AAVE dialect. Emmett's claims that he learned the song from a Black man tends to be substantiated, not conclusively of course, by the authors claim of the degree of authenticity of his dialect in his performances. Just something to consider, and I'll prepare something more coherent after this week.Die4Dixie 01:07, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Igbo

Amcaja I tried to create an account, it would not take my username. It's okay, I am not saying negative or malicious things here. I have nothing to hide and I am not popular and not seeking popularity, but accomplishment. Socrates said an unexamined life is not worth living. I say an unaccomplished life is not worth living. Anyway, I did not yet give you my theory on the Origins of the Igbo People. I simply corrected that Mbaise is not a town but made of 5 towns. And I asked if Wikipedia will be interested in offering me a grant to research and publish my theory of "The Origins of the Igbo People". Thanks. c.Ihekoronye O. Onyeulo

Amcaja, there is no 'h' in Igbo. The link www.theigbolifemagazine.com is powered by Yahoo Business. It is also available on Google or you can type igbo magazines. Cinemaniac

Greetings, Amcaja! You might not remember me, but at the beginning of the year I took part in a short-lived yet relevatory discussion with you, User:Wahkeenah, and User:WAVY 10, over Daffy Duck; that discussion, still available on that article's talk page, involved his voice origins and his recent resurgence. Towards the end of that discussion you advised that I sign up for an actual account, and I promised you that, if it ever came to be, I would let you know about it. Well---I took your advice. You can now refer to me officially as, not JS, but Cinemaniac. --- Cinemaniac 04:00, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, and glad to see you aboard! I hope we run into each other again. Until then, let me know if you have any questions or need any help. — Amcaja (talk) 04:17, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Given how often we ran into each other in the past, it didn't take long until the inevitable… — Cinemaniac 19:12, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Say, could you drop by the new Greg Ford article I just created recently. It was the first page I created, so it lacks citations and footnotes. If you have any knowledge pertaining to Greg Ford, it will be extremely appreciated. I'll be asking fellow Wikipedians who are active in Wikipeida's Project Animation to drop by their too. — Cinemaniac 14:10, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, one final note: There has been a recent proposal by Ted Watson to discard the character "Happy Rabbit" as a fabrication of sorts by Mel Blanc in his later years. Baseball Bugs and I have been following this with great interest, and an "investigation" is currently underway about Bugs Bunny's evolution to get to the truth about the prototype character. You are invited to stop by my talk page and supply some suggestions. — Cinemaniac 02:08, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
The "Happy Rabbit" article started about a year ago [1] by a red-link user which appears to be the one later named (i.e. spelled correctly) "Mr. Sanitizer"). I seem to recall having some issues with him about which cartoon was Bugsy's true debut, but I think we reached agreement. That was some months ago. Maybe you could quiz him about this issue. ALERT: Your original user name is still listed here. Just thought I'd let you know... — Cinemaniac (talk) 20:52, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up! I've changed it. There are still quite a few links to the old name floating around, but I'm OK with that. It's more trouble than it's worth to change 'em all, and no real harm done. — Amcaja (talk) 22:22, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Recently there's been an interesting proposal by Agtax to create a new article concerning the Looney Tunes television broadcast history; research and development are underway. Given your contributions to various animation-related articles, I was pretty sure you'd be helpful in this regard. Any comments? Suggestions? Ideas? You are welcome to post your thoughts here at my talk page. Thanks. — Cinemaniac (talk) 03:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Porky

Why did you post a message to my former User talk:Wahkeenah page? One thing I can assure you: "His" answer to any questions you have will be the same as "mine". Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 16:33, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Because I had no idea you two were the same, and Wahkeenah has been civil and level-headed in the past. Apologies for the mixup. :)
Civil and level-headed? How do you think I got permanently blocked? Well, technically, I asked them to. I was watching too many pages and getting into too many arguments. So I'm going to have to do something about this one, too. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 23:27, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
I was listening to the original radio version of Johnny Cash's song "A Boy Named Sue". The same phrase was used in that song and was bleeped out for public airplay. That was 1968. The notion that it would have been allowed in theaters in the early 1940s is absurd. However, a better question would be as to what the origin of the cartoon is. WB showed it during their 50th anniversy show, by which time they could get away with a lot more language-wise (that started to change in the 1970s, with shows like "All in the Family", and has gone downhill from there). The cartoon is now in fairly wide circulation, but I haven't found anything on when and where it was created. That would be the gem to find. Maybe it's buried in one of the Looney Tunes DVD's. I haven't seen all their specials yet. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 13:15, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, I know that a similar Breakdowns blooper reel had already been released the previous year, 1938. I'll check on IMDb and try to find out if the info I found was...uh...top-notch. — Cinemaniac 14:02, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
I've seen this cartoon referred to as a "blooper", which it can't be, because bloopers are mistakes made by live actors or technicians, and cartoon characters don't qualify. You don't draw several feet of film of this type "by mistake". The logical assumption is that it was made as a private joke to be shared only in-house, in contrast to the little things they used to slip into the films, like a character frowning in one frame and/or giving the audience, or themselves, "da boid". But those aren't bloopers either. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 23:52, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it's not really a "blooper"; if anything it's a parody of a blooper. But I think Cinemaniac found the date and posted it at Talk:Porky Pig, right? As for the original purpose of the film, it was no doubt intended as an in-house gag. I think one of the Golden Collection special features mentions that the studio regularly did a holiday gag film for in-house viewing only. This was typically not animated (due to the costs involved, I'd assume), but I'd still wager that Porky's "breakdown" was used for one of these films. Still, tracking down more info on it would be a good idea. — Amcaja (talk) 01:33, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
If it's on volume 4, I'll find it, once I get a chance. "Breakdowns" is probably a parody title. What it's specifically based on, I couldn't say, but there were other "anthology" films in the 30s, like Big Broadcast of [year] and some others, kind of like filmed versions of the ancestors to the Ed Sullivan Show. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:David C. Treen portrait.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Yoko Shimomura article

Hello, I hope you forgive the unusual request, but I was hoping I could ask you a question about the Yoko Shimomura article. I was looking through the edit history and saw that some of the content you wrote pertained to her involvement on the Kingdom Hearts games. What I'd like to know is if you still had or remembered the reference you got that information from. If you don't, I'd more than understand as it was over 4 years ago. But if you do, I would really appreciate it as I'm trying to improve the Music of Kingdom Hearts article. Thank you for your time. (Guyinblack25 talk 23:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC))
