Wikipedia:Introduction ("please leave this alone")

edit

Hello,

Concerning Sandbot enforcing the wiki introduction main window, I think the template name should be changed so as to "Be Nice" with new users. Instead of using please leave this line alone, I think that it should be used something like this:

<!-- Placeholder for introductory text -->
wikipedia introduction box
<!-- Feel free to change the text below this line. No profanity, please. -->

--Hdante 15:41, 3 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I follow the belief of, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." It has worked so long before, I don't see why you people have problems with it. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

VfD template deletion "OMG" !!

edit

A template you deleted was used on a BJAODN page, where it was a primary source of humor. Can you either undelete it or text dump its contents to the page there so there isn't this suspiscious red link there? Thanx 68.39.174.238 05:58, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was moved to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Suncrest Washington. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

NekoDaemon not moving Category:Fricative

edit

I tagged Category:Fricative with category redirect more than a week ago, and User:NekoDaemon hasn't moved it yet. Perhaps the bot doesn't think I'm an admin? Or maybe the bot is lazy and just hasn't gotten around to it yet? dbenbenn | talk 22:40, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know... I can't look into it now, but I will eventually. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fixes for DYK bots

edit

Hi AllyUnion, the DYK converters, Talk Page Converter and Talk Page Converter (backup) do not work most probably due to the following diffs. [1] and [2]. Also, on the Template talk:Did you know, the archive is not getting updated automatically in lots of 50 on new archive pages, probably because of some odd formatting issues, which I hopefully have fixed now; I believe that this bot would work now, but you may want to keep an eye on it. --Gurubrahma 11:25, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I wish I had time to fix this, but I don't. If you wish to fix it, email me. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Change to Template:Did you know

edit

I was advised to let you know that this template no longer contains the section title (which is handled via separate templates on the main page). You might need to update your bot accordingly. —David Levy 06:22, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Python

edit

I really hate python atm as I cant seem to get it to work. It alsways complains about line after another. Same story extras spaces, invisible (ASCII control) characters and other goodies. So I ask you to email me a working copy (preferably rared) :o. I dont see another way out :( --Cool CatTalk|@ 02:01, 10 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

SchwarzReich

I am typing to ask why the AllyUnion has marked the SchwarzReich article for deletion in September 2005?

NHL -> Nstional Hockey League cats

Hey, I see your bot renaming all the NHL related categories. What would be the best way to get a similar process going for AHL/American Hockey League categories? ccwaters 16:08, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Howcome your AFD bot no longer says whether they are closed or have ((at)) or ((ab)) or not? Did something go wrong?Voice_of_AllT|@|ESP 00:04, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Resource hog. Will have to revisit programming the bot. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:28, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pure Evil

edit

This page - Pure Evil was nominated for deletion yesterday, but it finds no mention on the list of articles for deletion of yesterday, or even today for that matter. Can you find out what went wrong? - Aksi great 12:16, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I really can't tell you... sorry. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:28, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Chew Valley Lake FAC

edit

Hi, I've resubmitted Chew Valley Lake as a featured article candidate, because it didn't receive enough support last time.

As you have edited this page in the past I wondered if you would be willing to visit and comment/support on the nomination? Rod 20:23, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not much of a FAC person, but thank you for asking. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:27, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion for Kurando San

edit

I have a suggestion for Kurando San. It would be great if it checks the date and the date is the first of the month in addition to doing the regular checks on FPC candidates status it also creates the subpage for the new month, adds the header to it and if possible modifies the header template (may require some format modification to template) to display the newest. If the template can't be easily modded an alternative would be to leave an alert on the FPC talk page that a new archive has been created for the month and someone has to go and manually add it, the message could also include the link to the header and to the created archive so it would be a snap for a human to do it. Thanks. Pegasus1138Talk | Contribs | Email ---- 02:57, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay... Let me get this straight. You want the bot to do:
 1. Check the date
 2. IF date is the first of the month
 3. THEN create new subpage for the new month and format it properly
Is that right? Not to be rude, but your block of text is not clear enough for me to understand what your point is. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:26, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sandbox cleaning request

edit

Could I possibly request User:Sandbot to clean my Sandbox as well. Is there anything I put on my sandbox like a link to clean it on request? Thanks. - File:Ottawa flag.png     nathanrdotcom (TalkContribs) 05:14, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I can do that... you'll have to point me to a template or something you want me to use to replace it. I've been recently busy with a new job which hasn't given me much time for Wikipedia lately. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:24, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about User:nathanrdotcom/Sandbox/Template? No rush. Thanks. — Nathan (Got something to say? Say it.) 20:44, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blocking inactive bots

edit

You can't block a deletion bot, so is there any point to blocking AngBot? I don't mind since it's not in use anyway, but it seems a waste of time and needless clutter in the block log. Angela. 05:28, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you want to unblock it because you feel that it is taking up room in the block log, you can go ahead and unblock it. --AllyUnion (talk) 05:23, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

DYK archival - critical

edit

Hi, tried e-mailing you but couldn't do so, which I guess, is due to the new e-mail confirmation system (relevant link displayed on our watchlists). Template talk:Did you know has grown on to an unwieldy 150+ kb mostly due to the archive section getting bloated up. Your archival bot hasn't been working at least for the past 3 months. I think the problem is with the image extensions for the DYK entries. For example, for some of the entries, the image extension is mentioned as (:Image:abc.jpg) while for most others, it is mentioned as (right|abc); some of them are also under the extension (90px|right|abc). Can you please have a look asap so that the DYK updation does not get out of whack?? Also, please let me know if you are working on it. TIA, --Gurubrahma 06:27, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

As I am a novice wrt to all matters related to programming, I'd appreciate it greatly if you can forward this to other people who work on bots, in case you do not have time for this. Thanks again, --Gurubrahma 06:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
You can try the WP:AWB... but I don't have a solution I can quickly offer you. I work from Tuesday to Saturday and those days I get really tired. --AllyUnion (talk) 08:51, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kurando-san problem

edit

Kurando-san is having trouble reading Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Spanish shawl. I can't see anything obviously wrong with it myself, so I thought I'd better ask you. Raven4x4x 09:48, 15 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your photos of SD Meetup

edit

Hi AllyUnion, I hope you are well. I've not talked to you in quite some time; since around November, I guess. You took photos (Image:San_Diego_Meetup_with_Jimbo_1.JPG and Image:San Diego Meetup with Jimbo 2.JPG) at the San Diego meetup. Do you know most of the attendee's usernames? I thought it would be nice to add that to the photo descriptions. Could you help with that, please? It was my first time to meet everyone, and I don't want to mislable anyone due to a faulty memory connection. Thanks! Johntex\talk 03:57, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kurando-san + FPC problem

edit

I think your bot is having a problem for whatever reason moving the FPCs when older than 14 days so I moved 9 of them, the oldest of which was 17 days old. I hope this hasn't messed up any of the coding on the page. Thanks, |→ Spaully°τ 12:01, 22 March 2006 (GMT)
