Hello, Akm138, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Please be more careful in future

edit

When editing articles such as Miss Kentucky Teen USA please make sure that (a) the addition adhere's with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines (see your previous post on this talk page), (b) it is actually about the subject of the article - most of what you added wasn't and (c), most importantly, that you reference any additions to the article. Well (c) is really part of (a) but it is a cornerstone of Wikipedia. Please reach out to me or at the teahouse if you require further clarification or help ...   CJ [a Kiwi] in  Oz  11:02, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you CJinoz! Akm138, here are some notes to further expand on this:
  1. As stated above, all claims must be backed up with sources, especially independent, reliable sources.
  2. With articles titled after one specific topic, the article should only be about that specific subject. So for example, the article you edited should only cover information about Miss Kentucky Teen USA. It shouldn't have information about other pageants unless those are very specifically tied into this pageant. For example, in order to qualify for Miss America a contestant will presumably have to win at the local and state level, so it's fine to include a mention along the lines of "In order to qualify for Miss America a contestant must win a pageant at the local and state level." Since there are so many pageants, there's no need to list them all, even if we focus on specific states. However when it comes to other pageants, there is no reason to mention those.
  3. While detail is good, make sure that you don't go into too much detail. For example, there's no need to list the sponsors of the pageant, especially as they are subject to change. The only time I'd list them would be if there has been a lot of coverage as far as the sponsorship goes, like if the sponsorship has been particularly controversial and received a lot of national and international coverage. It's uncommon for sponsorships to get this much coverage, to be honest.
With the other pageants, I also want you to keep in mind that not all beauty pageants are held by the same parent organization. For example, Miss Kentucky Teen USA is ultimately run by the Miss Universe Organization, whereas the Kentucky Princess Pageants are run by the Miss Kentucky Teen America Organization, a completely separate organization. It's easy to assume that they're all the same, to be honest, as they have such similar names and they all tend to blur into each other after a while, which is why it's important to be cautious.
