Re: Icon Shampionship Wrestling speedy delete edit

Hey Akinsane. The reason I tagged your article for speedy deletion was because it did not pass Wikipedia's notability guidelines for companies, which clearly state that "A company, corporation, organization, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject... The "secondary sources" in the criterion include reliable published works in all forms, such as (for example) newspaper articles, books, television documentaries, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations". The subject of your article did not pass any of these notability criteria, which is why I requested its deletion. If you have any queries about Wikipedia's notability guidelines, please don't hesitate to contact me. haz (talk) 18:09, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.
  • "Presumed" means objective evidence meets the criterion, without regard for the subjective personal judgments of editors. Substantive coverage in reliable sources suggests that the subject is notable.
  • "Significant coverage" means that sources address the subject directly in detail, and no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than trivial but may be less than exclusive.
  • "Reliable" means sources need editorial integrity to allow verifiable evaluation of notability, per the reliable source guideline. Sources may encompass published works in all forms and media. Availability of secondary sources covering the subject is a good test for notability.
  • "Sources," defined on Wikipedia as secondary sources, provide the most objective evidence of notability. The number and nature of reliable sources needed varies depending on the depth of coverage and quality of the sources. Multiple sources are generally preferred.
  • "Independent of the subject" excludes works produced by those affiliated with the subject including (but not limited to): self-publicity, advertising, self-published material by the subject, autobiographies, press releases, etc.
This text is copied from Wikipedia's notability policy. I would not personally classify a radio interview with a company representative as a reliable source, as reliability usually comes with published material, such as reliable publications and online references. The source is also not independent, as the company representative is responsible for its content. However, if you would like, I would be happy to request other editors to comment, or take this case to mediation in order to discuss your concerns. haz (talk) 14:21, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Third opinion indicates that the deletion was warranted. If you wish, you may wish to present the case to deletion review, but otherwise I suggest that it remains deleted. haz (talk) 18:23, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Third opinion edit

3O doesn't normally deal with deletion; WP:DRV generally deals with that. There's no way for me to tell what the page looked like, but I probably would have marked it for deletion as well. Icon only yields 134 Google hits, and none of the pages listed there are reliable, secondary sources. You'd think that, if it were truly notable, it would have been covered by at least one outside source. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 22:07, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
