Deleted Article: Florian Hutter

Hello Airplaneman, This was my first article, and I spent a lot of time learning how to enter the information and resources, and I felt proud that I was able to create the article. I am sorry that my article on Florian Hutter was deleted. I am having trouble understanding all of the guidelines and I think I need some help. Was my article totally wrong, or was there anything I could have done to edit the article and prevent deletion? Any guidance that you could provide to me would me of great help. ~ ~ ~ ~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkBruno (talkcontribs) 22:44, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

The deletion of my article was on 12:25, 24 January 2011.
Thanks!

Hello again Airplaneman,
I hope that I am writing correctly here.
As an administrator, can you userfy the page "Florian Hutter" for me and email a copy to me?
Thanks again!
Mark Bruno 18:54, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Mark. I apologize for not responding more quickly. I will certainly email you a copy; in addition, you can find the article at User:MarkBruno/Florian Hutter. I find that spitting out a bunch of policies in your face while trying to advise you on how to write the best article possible and help it survive is both tedious for me and overwhelming for someone new to this site. Therefore, I will userfy it for you and we can improve it together. I'll try to point you in the right direction while helping you edit the article and answer your questions. I'm busy in real life and actually a bit stressed too, so Wikipedia isn't my priority right now (nor is it ever :p – I just have more time for this place sometimes than other times); however, I'll try to respond in a timely manner. Happy editing, Airplaneman 21:35, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

OK, Thanks! No apology necessary! and - thanks for userfying the page and thanks for the email!

Unable to make changes to an existing article

I would like to make some changes to the Wikipedia article on the drug Naltrexone. I feel these changes are necessary because Naltrexone, which was formerly for the management of alcohol dependency alone, has now been approved for the treatment of opiate addiction. So I would like to add a full section on its new, broader uses in addition to some other minor changes. However, I am unable to edit the article text. The article does not seem to be protected so I'm puzzled. I'm guessing there's something that I'm not aware of. Can you please advise me on how I should proceed? If you would like to see my proposed changes, just let me know. Thanks!Michael Leeman (talk) 14:10, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Hmmm... I was able to edit as an IP and as a sysop, so I'm not encountering the problem you had. It's puzzling, and I think there's something about the article that I don't know as well. Try purging your cache or restarting your browser/using a different one. If that doesn't work, you can just give me the text and I'll insert it on your behalf. Airplaneman 15:35, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I'll try your suggestions above and get back to you if I encounter further problems.Michael Leeman (talk) 17:41, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks again for your suggestion! I restarted my browser and was able to edit the Naltrexone article. Can you please look it over and let me know if it looks okay? The main thing I changed was to exand "Opiate Addiction" and make it its own section (rather than a sub-section of "Other Uses") since Naltrexone is now approved for treatment of opiate addiction. (I also removed some info from the "Alcohol dependence" section as there was no source for it and I believe it to be incorrect.) Thanks. By the way, it was extremely nice of you to offer to insert the text for me. I greatly appreciate it!Michael Leeman (talk) 21:20, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
You're welcome; I'm glad it worked! Your changes look good and they contribute positively to the article, so no complaints there ;). Airplaneman 06:40, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I am very grateful for all your help!Michael Leeman (talk) 20:55, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Another template

I'm having a problem with yet another template. (Template:Infobox NASCAR race) The image part is showing up like it is there, when theres not an image. (Review: Atlanta 500) Do you know how to fix this? --Nascar1996 21:30, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

I think I figured out the problem: you have the "includeonly" around the logo template, but you don't have a function that hides the coding from showing up when there's no logo displayed. Because the template is deployed in so many areas, I don't want to mess with it. However, I will ask someone more familiar with template coding to take a look to see if they can devise a permanent solution. Airplaneman 06:32, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, you are correct. I fixed it, with the added bonus that it won't try to show logos that don't exist. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 08:23, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Topic deletion

Morning Airplaneman.

I must apologise. I did not realise when starting a new topic to write about that I had saved it to go live. In my haste to log off my pc I thought I had saved the work so I could come back to it later not actually posted it up.

Am I free to start the same topic again? Thank you, TWBPL. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twbpl (talkcontribs) 08:17, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello TWBPL; no need to apologize - if anything, I should apologize for responding so late. I deleted the article because it was tagged under WP:A7, which says that the article didn't assert notability. What we can do is I'll restore it to User:Twbpl/Tyne and wear bus preservation group where you can work on finding plenty of reliable sources to prove that the topic has significant coverage/notability; I can help you with formatting, complicated policies, and whatnot. However, I must warn you that if the subject does not meet the notability guideline, it may be listed for deletion again regardless of what we do. I know it's frustrating; it's happened to me before. However, if you would like, we can proceed! How does that sound? Airplaneman 06:36, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Can someone help me, please?

Thank you very much, Airplaneman! I emailed DESiegel as you suggested but no response at all as yet. Could you please help me finish my page instead? And if not could you suggest someone to help me, please? Thanks a lot for your help Magiko (talk) 16:10, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

UPDATE: Dear Airplaneman, DESiegel has contacted me and is willing to help. Thank you very much for providing me with his email address - it made all the difference. Thanks a lot and very best wishes to you! Magiko (talk) 12:00, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to   The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by   Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to   Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1,   Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and   Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Template 4 at TFD

I'm not sure why this is being continuously relisted. I see no serious delete votes, and several keep votes, with most recommending expansion of the practice to the other single digit templates. Is there something I am missing in the discussion? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 06:56, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Actually, there might be something that I am missing. I couldn't determine consensus after watching it (albeit not closely) for a while. However, after a closer read, I do indeed concur that there aren't any serious delete votes and two strong arguments for keeping this template. Undoing this relist is a possibilty, and I'm tempted to do that to fix my sloppy work—unless there's some policy/guideline that I'm not aware of that discourages this. Thanks for bringing this up, Airplaneman 07:10, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
And it has been relisted again. Please just close it and put it out of its misery. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:53, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Being Born Again Couture Fashion Show article

Hi Airplaneman,

Thank you for your comments. In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Art_School, it "is written like an advertisement" according to administrator "Unt123" in "May 2009" and it was not taken down since. I would like to request that my article be put up again - I shall edit out all the advertising jargon. Where is it please? What could I do to improve the quality of the wikipedia article as well? Thank you. 14.200.69.191 (talk) 14:06, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Domenico.y

Hi Domenico; may you please point me to the comments I made? As for the National Art School article, here are the edits that Unt123 (talk · contribs) made. They aren't an administrator, having made three edits total. Instead, another user tagged the article here in May 2009. It indeed reads like an advertisement. Phrases such as "With a prestigious alumni and diverse history" should be weeded out. Furthermore, the article isn't referenced. Those are needed to back up the information presented. #5 at WP:NOTADVERTISING explains in detail how the article should be rewritten. Regards, Airplaneman 17:07, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks - I didn't explain myself clearly, I apologise for that. In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Being_Born_Again_Couture_Fashion_Show, you deleted it because of "(G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion)". I would like to request that the "Being Born Again Couture" Wikipedia page article be put up again and I shall edit it again to remove all advertising jargon out of it. The "Being Born Again Couture" page is referenced correctly, in my opinion - what do you think of the references? Any tips as to how I improve the article please? Your help would be appreciated. Thank you very much, 14.200.69.191 (talk) 15:27, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Domenico.y

An Issue With the Article on Hamburger

Beginning the 18th-19th Century segment, there is this statement: "In the late 18th century, the largest ports in Europe were in Germany." I do not believe this statement is accurate. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, England, at least to my knowledge, was the most powerful navy in the world. At the time, it was engaged mainly in war with France. Also, in the early 1800s, England opposed Napoleon, and Germany was under the power of Napoleon, then. I do not see how Hamburg, etc., could be called a largest port in Europe at the time, for England would surely have blockaded it, esp., re: Napoleon & France. There is no mention of German ports in the reading I have done re: the British Royal Navy of the time. England was more concerned about blockading the French ports of Brest, Toulon, etc.

If the article meant "late 19th Century," then fine. But, I think the statement, as it stands, is inaccurate. This may be a very minor point in the article, but it does betray a certain inaccuracy of history, which many people gloss over and is a reason for much of current world problems, due to ignorance of or ignoring of, history.

That's the problem. I'm convinced that more than half the aircraft mentioned at WP:WikiProject Aircraft/Missing articles aren't even notable. Public Policy questions and suggestions

Hello Airplaneman,

I was wondering if you could help me decide, or give me any feedback, on some articles that I'm reviewing as potential victims for the public policy initiative. I have chosen 6 of them so far

I was just wondering if they are applicable to public policy- they should be since I got them through the "assessment" tab. Also which ones you think would work best. Are there any that you think I should work on since they need a lot of help? Things like that. Thanks mentor! Julietabulie (talk) 22:49, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Hey Julie! I made some formatting tweaks to your post above (view the changes here)—I think that's how you wanted your post to look like. As per the talk page guidelines (read about them at Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines), my tweaks are acceptable (what's not acceptable is changing the meaning of posts, etc. etc., but that's just common courtesy and most don't even consider doing that). If you don't like me messing with your posts, just yell at me :p. These changes also present a good opportunity for me to help introduce you to more aspects of Wikitext formatting, similar to HTML, which will help you when you write articles. When I first joined 3 years ago, I learned through trial and error as well as by watching others, and I found that effective. For your post, specifically, I added bullets (see Wikipedia:BULLET#Bulleted lists for a detailed explanation) and links (see Help:Link). OK, enough rambling, and onto the articles you mentioned!
All of the articles you mentioned seem to be in the scope of public policy. I am certainly no expert on public policy, but they seem applicable. As for which one I think would work the best: pick one that perks your interest the most, one that turns you on and makes you want to EDIT IT!!!! Or just one that you really want to know more about :). If all six are extremely interesting, I'd start with Seed and Grain Loan Act because it needs the most help in my opinion. It's barely a paragraph (which means there's basically no content) and contains no references. All of the articles could use a good makeover: expanding, copyediting, formatting, and additional quality references. Another factor you could use to help choose which article to work on is one that is the most closely related to what you're currently studying in class. Cheers, Airplaneman 02:37, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
P.S. If you haven't yet, add this page and others you want to keep tabs on to your Watchlist (more on them at Help:Watching pages) by clicking the star near the top of the page to the left of the search bar. Check your watchlist and you'll see recent changes to the pages you have watched. Airplaneman 02:42, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Oh wow! Thanks so much for all of your help and input! I do not mind you fixing up my posts in the least! I am thinking about the Seed and Grain Loan Act since it really does need quite a bit of help. I will definitely keep you updated on everything. Thanks again! Julietabulie (talk) 03:18, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Problem child

Hmm... This looks like an example of the "sneaky vandalism". And this is the accusation. This behavior is indeed concerning, and in this case rather annoying. BilCat warned them not too long before you posted this at User_talk:序名三#Civility and we'll see how that works. For now, I'll keep an eye on him and see what happens; I don't think any good will be done by giving him additional warnings right now; It'll just get him angry. Being Born Again Couture Fashion Show article - how do I edit please?

In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Being_Born_Again_Couture_Fashion_Show, you deleted it because of "(G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion)". I would like to request that the "Being Born Again Couture" Wikipedia page article be put up again and I will edit it again to remove all advertising jargon. Thank you very much, 14.200.69.191 (talk) 12:05, 13 February 2011 (UTC)Domenico.y

Hello Domenico; I apologize for not responding to your previous post. The article, in an attempt to claim notability (I'm assuming), which it does, reads like an advertisement throughout, with phrases such as "10 top Australian fashion designers" and "The annual Couture show is the first of its kind on such a large scale". The "about" and "famous australian personas" sections especially read like an advertisement. These need to be rewritten in a more neutral tone. The references seem alright (I don't have time to go through them individually right now). I've restored the article to User:Domenico.y/Being Born Again Couture Fashion Show for you to work on it; I'll try to drop by and help as well. Regards, Airplaneman 06:01, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
