PoDP Project Proposal:

edit

Page to be revised: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organization_for_Transformative_Works

Suggested revisions:

  • expand a bit upon the history and goals of the OfTW in the general section
  • remove the bulleted list from the the general section and and expand it into subsections as appropriate; some of the more minor points can be stored under a general man section with larger projects getting individual sections.
  • expanding the Archive of Our Own subsection - (currently only one section). Details include founding history, beta status, usage statistics, etc; may incorporate views from a few papers about the archives effects. (still need to research: effect of allowing adult content vs. fanfiction.net? Other things that are remarkable?)
  • adding in a subsection expanding on the nature of the fanlore project
  • adding in a subsection about the history of OfTW's involvement in legal cases; including examples of specific cases and the types of arguments made; when available include the outcome of the case. Also give details of partner organizations (i.e. EFF)

Some possible sources include: http://transformativeworks.org/sites/default/files/EFF%20PK%20OTW%20Amicus%20in%20Fox%20v%20Dish-1.pdf (as well as other legal briefs) http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-02-01/apple-time-warner-super-bowl-intellectual-property.html http://www.dailydot.com/news/organization-transformative-works-fandom-future/ (and similar news articles) http://archiveofourown.org/admin_posts?tag=62 (AO3 Stats) http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/archiveofourown.org (Alexa Stats) http://dc.uwm.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1029&context=etd http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/15405700903502346 http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/cj/summary/v048/48.4.de-kosnik.html

as well as some of the sources already listed on the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adrianvallence (talkcontribs) 20:23, March 5, 2013

Looks like you're researching well here! You should probably discuss your proposed article changes on the talk page of the article, especially if you're going to be making major changes. That's what it's there for. It gives other users a chance to look over your proposed changes and discuss them. Let me know if you need help with anything. --Geniac (talk) 05:04, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Help us improve the Wikipedia Education Program

Hi Adrianvallence! As a student editor on Wikipedia, you have a lot of valuable experience about what it's like to edit as a part of a classroom assignment. In order to help other students like you enjoy editing while contributing positively to Wikipedia, it's extremely helpful to hear from real student editors about their challenges, successes, and support needs. Please take a few minutes to answer these questions by clicking below. (Note that the responses are posted to a public wiki page.) Thanks!

Hello, I'm Serols. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Asexual Awareness Week— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.
