Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits while logged out. Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting and doing so may result in your account being blocked from editing. Additionally, making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing. Thank you. wjematherplease leave a message... 17:02, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced additions

Hello, I'm Wjemather. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Gary Player, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. wjematherplease leave a message... 17:05, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit-warring

Your recent editing history at Gary Player shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. wjematherplease leave a message... 17:02, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Reliable sources

edit

Any changes you make must be supported by reliable 3rd party sources. Please note that WikiPedia is NOT a reliable source. As such, totals of tournament victories listed here must not be used as a source as they may be inaccurate; i.e. Snead certainly won more than we currently have details for (as indicated by the note at the end of the list). wjematherplease leave a message... 17:27, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Going by the rules of wikipedia with no reliable source you cannot just claim "Snead won more than we have details for". If he has won more add them to the list otherwise Player has 160 wins to Snead's 142. If you can provide details from a 3rd party that Snead has won more than Player please do it. Can we have a source please ?. We don't just assume we need facts here on wikipedia ?. 80.233.56.46 (talk) 18:56, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have simply deleted the offending information. This is often a good approach, rather than just adding more and more unreliable information. Note: In Sam Snead's article under "other wins" it clearly says "Note: this list is incomplete." Nigej (talk) 19:16, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Listen Gary Player's list could be incomplete. Does Wikipedia deal in facts and stats ?.. So why don't we go with the totals that we have for players that are sourced and use those ?. Not hearsay. Or is it one rule for the clique that want to run everything here their own way and one rule for other editors?. Is that the real reason ?. 80.233.56.46 (talk) 19:26, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia includes information that is supported by reliable sources, i.e. verifiable. The totals are not supported by reliable sources, so using them to compile a ranking violates Wikipedia's policy on original research/synthesis. Further, sources that do offer totals generally do not agree and do not specify inclusion criteria, making them unreliable in this regard. wjematherplease leave a message... 19:36, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
