I love it when (clueless) people like you revert to incorrect info on pages. Do you know anything about that constituency in India? The info on that page was wrong. Search for "1996 Indian Elections" on google, check the Indian Government's official online document, and see who won that election. I inserted the correct info, and you are telling me about 'sandbox' and 'experimenting'. I have some advice for you - do not poke your nose in wiki pages about which you have no idea. You need some basic knowledge of the subject before you make or revert the changes.

Huh? Please read the article again before you cancel my changes. The wiki article has this last line : He died in 2013. So my source is wiki itself. Yet the first line was : He is a politician (present tense). Since he is dead (according to wiki) I changed 'he is' to 'he was'. And yet you restore a faulty version? Why do wiki editors keep doing this, and is there any way I can complain to wiki that you are doing your job incompetently? Please do not dabble in subjects about which you have no clue.

Thanks. At least you responded. Many editors roll back useful info and then just disappear. As for the year of death, I just copied the info from his wiki entry. A person born in 1932 - it is a reasonable guess that he is dead by now. Of course that is not a guarantee. But the (unsourced) year of his death was already a part of his wiki entry.

I have corrected the info as per your suggestions. Lots of info about Indian people is unreliable. In 1970s, Vajpayee's year of birth was generally given to be 1926. Later it shifted to 1924. Bhimsen Joshi was born on 04-Feb-1922; yet one of his famous biographies, by Mohan Nadkarni, mentions the date as 14-Feb-1922. In such cases one just has to make good guesses. Another difficulty is that reliable internet sources are hard to find about Indian public figures. Authentic info about them is found in some books in their native language, but it is difficult, and sometimes impossible, to quote reliable web pages to back up that info.

I know, but unreliable info is just waiting to be removed someday. MyNeta is reliable since they keep scanned copies of affidavit of the politicians, but they give only age. So a template has to be used. Indian Gov portals are better, they give detailed info but are harder to find for less notable politicians. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:39, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Deve Gowda Defeat

You reverted my edit with the comment : good faith but other elections do not carry details. Simple, other elections did not have a former PM losing from this seat (Kanakpura, in 2004 polls). And he came THIRD. You should let such important information stand. I am unable to find how many votes Deve Gowda got, and am a bit lazy to find out. it is enough that he came third, and that shoul dbe recorded.

I did not add anything judgmental or controversial. Deve Gowda has had interesting political history, in that he became a PM and yet lost elections twice after that. I found out about those elections and added that info. I did not add links because info about Indian elections is easily available at the government sites. I will add those links later. And he has changed his constituencies, too. That should be reflected on his web page, in my opinion, to have better idea of his political journey. I do not have wiki acct but I can be contacted at walks.nani AT gmail.com address. I spent 10-15 meanings to make that article more heavy on facts. 'Elected to Lok Sabha from Hassan' is more useful that 'elected to Lok Sabha'. But it is your wish. I think some editors on wiki are not allowing useful material to appear on its pages.

I agree with your message although I think that the additions should stand alone and not be included in the same parenthetical expression as the birth and or death information. The more information that is included in the same parenthetical expression, the more some further explanation is needed. If this is not always the case, in other articles, I suppose that any expression in proper use can be justified as a matter of format. In any event, as I noted, I considered your edit had a problem of form, not of substance. I have no objection to the content being placed in the article. I knew some editor would remove my comment. Frankly, why do you people do that? Do you know ANYTHING about Indian politics? I do, and I have contributed a lot to wiki pages. Here is the deal. The 3rd Lok Sabha elections were conducted in India in 1962. I had quoted the official list of winners, which you removed. You should not do such vandalism. There are 400+ winners of that election. I have neither the time nor energy to check all 400 entries. But the wiki page is full of errors. You should absolutely warn your readers about it if you value accuracy. My edit was constructive, your edit is destructive. For example, check the entry for Lucknow, which was wrong and I corrected it. Check the entry for South Bombay. It does not exist on the wiki page. That wiki page has references to Bharatiya Janata Party. That is nonsense because the party was founded only in 1980. It did not exist in 1962. You are quite simply fooling people if you pass off that wiki page as authentic. I added a due warning, and you in your wisdom remove it without knowing anything about the topic. Frankly I find it annoying that wiki-editors poke their nose in issues about which they know nothing.
