Hi, I tidied up the reference list, as it contained some of the in-text reference numbers as well as the references. I moved the <ref name> tags to the text so that the reference numbers wouldn't appear in the References. I forgot to remove the {{citation style}} maintenance template - will do that now. The reference to a page on documentstalk.com by Svetlana Chervonnaya was in the reference list, but wasn't cited in the article. Discussion on the talk page suggested that it wasn't a reliable source, so rather than adding it back into the article I marked it as a comment. This way it's still part of the page but doesn't show up as a broken reference (I was working through the "Pages with incorrect ref formatting" category and this article was listed there). If you think it should be deleted instead, I don't mind if you do that. 564dude (talk) 02:31, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

I would prefer that it be included as a reference. I find it rather odd that a website with relevant information on this contentious topic is excluded since it's a website. By that sort of "reasoning" Wikipedia should be excluded. DEddy (talk) 20:06, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Removing full citations

I have no preference about the citation style, but if someone uses a full citation, I do agree that it is best to leave it like that. Also - you certainly got active on Wikipedia suddenly. But if you had looked back in the edit history then you would have seen the (unexplained) deletion of sourced content that caused the citation errors you fixed, here. These sort of errors are frequently caused when 'list based' references are used and the editor deleting content doesn't bother to preview/or check for such errors.

As a Citation Monitor

564Due--How does one cite a chapter in an edited book, while identifying the editors---aside from my improvised method showing here?:

• Messerschmidt, Manfred (2000). "Forward Defense: The "Memorandum of the Generals" for the Nuremberg Court". In Hannes Heer; Klaus Naumann, eds. (eds.). War of Extermination: The German Military in World War II. New York: Berghahn Books. ISBN 978-1-57181-232-2. {{cite book}}: |editor2= has generic name (help); Invalid |ref=harv (help)

The reason you see eds. at the end of Klaus Naumann is so that people do not confuse them as the authors of the book, when they were its editors. Despite writing their own chapters in this example volume, most of the chapters are written by someone else. Show me how to do it so that they are reflected as editors. BTW -- what you did to the Bandenbekämpfung page does NOT solve this dilemma, so it was reverted. Also, you should note that in no way does this interfere with the citation's tag so that it directs to it when clicked.--Obenritter (talk) 19:03, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for adding references to articles, as in this edit and flagging them as open access. Did you know that the citation templates have parameters such as |doi-access=free to flag which source the article is open access from? This helps readers who are not familiar with bibliographic identifiers find a free copy easily. Soon this will also auto-generate a |url= to link the title of the work itself.
