Ivan the Terrible and diplomatic service edit

Hello. Ivan developing the first diplomatic servive in Europe is quite a claim. Renaissance Italy is usually considered the European birthplace of modern diplomacy. Could you please provide a solid source for both the date and "first in Europe"? Thanks. Haploidavey (talk) 23:35, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Having checked, I've reverted your addition. All states have always had diplomats, at home and abroad. 1549 is not a "first" for Europe, or for Russia. It's simply the first mention of this office in Ivan's Russia by Russian chroniclers of the time. As Ivan's responsible for Russia's expansion to a something like a super-state, the date is therefore celebrated by modern Russian diplomats as their profession's "birth certificate". Nothing particularly remarkable about that. Haploidavey (talk) 14:05, 16 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
