See Talk:Virtua Fighter 5#Last installment?, we do not add "final" to articles when the latest entry of a franchise is x amount of years ago. Do not add it in, it will be reverted. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 18:14, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well, not only was this game released many years ago, but there doesn’t seem to be a ‘’Virtua Fighter 6’’ in sight. Tell me, is there any word about a ‘’Virtua Fighter 6’’? I mostly don’t buy into agnosticism which is kinda unconvincing and lame 107.130.120.49 (talk) 17:14, 20 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
See Talk:Virtua Fighter 5#Last installment?. We simply do not ever state that an entry into a franchise is the last one. That would be WP:ORIGINALRESEARCH. And to use a very agnostic quote: absence of proof is not proof of absence. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 05:30, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don’t see what’s wrong in using such words. The word “last” is defined as referring to something in a series that has no successor. Because “Virtua Fighter 5” has no sequel, to call it “last” should be accurate and self-explanatory. 2603:8001:3700:F738:31B4:1C0D:35DA:915A (talk) 18:52, 5 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how in what other ways I can make myself clear, but I'll try one more time, with reasons by bullet point.
  • WP:NOORIGINALRESEARCH is one of Wikipedia's core guidelines. We go by reliable sources, not what users like you or me think or feel. So if the article states "this is the last game", you will need to back that up. You can't, right? Because that would be WP:CRYSTALBALLing, that somehow you know that something isn't going to happen.
  • Assume the average Wikipedia reader is not an idiot. If there's nothing in the article about a sequel, a spin-off, a future entry in the franchise, whatever, assume the reader can come to the conclusion that Virtua Fighter 5 is the latest entry, because it's not in the article. You don't have to say last / latest / most recent, whatever.
  • If you look at works by film directors, we can with certainty say that Madadayo is Akira Kurosawa's final film, since he is deceased. Or that Mardi Gras is Creedence Clearwater Revival last album, because as a band, they've broken up. But video game intellectual property has none of that. A publisher owns the right and can do whatever the hell they please with it. There is no best-by date. Moreover, the 'enhanced remake' Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown was released in June 2021. June of this year, they released an update. Clearly Sega's not done with Virtua Fighter.
  • It's not something that is ever done in video game-related articles. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of video game articles, where we simply do not state that it is the last one in a particular series. 1996's Nights into Dreams was followed by 2007's Nights: Journey of Dreams, but we don't say it's the last Nights game. 2011's Homefront was followed by 2016's Homefront: The Revolution, same thing. Costume Quest and Costume Quest 2. Or 2018's critically panned and financially unsuccesful Metal Gear Survive. Or the Castlevania game Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, from 2008. Or 2014 subseries entry Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Feel free to look up Lists of video games for other examples.
Long story short, just don't say 'last'. Thanks. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 13:45, 6 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
