"Bus" and [a]

Regarding Help:IPA for Swedish, you might note that the pronunciation of the vowel in "bus" in the major variants of English is [ʌ]. There are dialectal differences, but I don't think I've heard of any that pronounce it as [a]. [a] is exactly how it's pronounced in Swenglish, though.

Ja, visserligen är vokalerna i matt och bus inte exakt samma, men bus är en mycket bättre approximering än hat. Jag lyssnade på alla uttal av hat i Forvo innan jag gjorde redigeringen, och i samtliga av dem skiljde sig vokalen från vokalen i matt i avsevärt större sträckning än vokalen i bus skiljer sig från vokalen i matt.

Vokalen i bus uttalas alltså inte precis som vokalen i matt, men vokalen i matt liknar mer vokalen i bus än vokalen i hat, och därför är bus mer till hjälp åt någon som talar engelska men inte svenska. Den bästa beskrivningen av vokalen i matt vore kanske "somewhat/roughly like bus".

Jag håller inte med anågende bus/hat, särskilt med tanke på att det finns engelska dialekter som uttalar den vokalen [ʊ].

Slutvokalen i émigré är däremot en diftong som slutar på [ɪ].[1] Det är exakt samma vokal som i make och sleigh. Då är hear vettigare, även om det är just en approximation.
