The Democratic Union of the Federated Eralitian States (D.U.F.E.S or DUFES), commonly reffered to as the Democratic Union or simply Eralitia, is a fictional island country consisting of 12 states. The country spans over the entire landmass of a planet of the same name. It is bigger than all countries on earth in terms of both total area and population. The country doesn’t have it’s own capital, instead each of the 12 states has their own one. The most populous city of the country is Nirasé, the capital of the state of Karanisé.

The country of Eralitia was founded 1791 years ago, on 14 June 1 B.F.E, when the rulers of the states of aDuron, Kinikoa, and Karanisé signed a declaration of unification. In the following 3 centuries, more nations joined the union until the final addition of the state of Maco on 18 August 268 A.F.E

History

Prehistoric

The land known as Eralitia has been populated by humans for about 200.000 years by various groups of people scattered all over the land.

Politics

The Democratic Union of Federated Eralitian States is a federal parliamentary republic, consisting of 12 states, all of whom have the same power. It has a bicameral legislature, the National Congress, which is composed of the House of the People, the lower house, and the House of the Federation, the upper house. Together, the two houses make federal law

The House of the People consists of 612 members, 12 chief executives, one per state, and 600 other members called the executives of states, fifty per state. The chief executives are elected by the people of the state, with the rest of the members being decided by the elected officials. The elections, called the Federal Elections, take place every 6 years.

The House of the Federation consists of 216 members called the members of federation, eighteen per state. The members of the House of the Federation are elected by the members of the Houses of State, with each state electing their own members. The 12 chief executives have veto power for the elected officials of all states. These elections take place 2 years after the Federal Elections

Administrive divisions

Eralitia is divided into 12 states, each ruled by their own House of State. The amount of members of each house depends on the population of the state. The members of the houses are called the members of the state. The members of the state are elected by the people every 2 years. The Houses of State make state laws and vote for the members of federation. Meetings usually take place in the state's capital. All states, excluding the three island states of Jiro, Kojo, and Maco, are further subdivised into departments.

Law enforcement and crime

All settlements in Eralitia with a population over 100 000 are required by law to have their own police department. The smaller settlements either have their own department or fall under a department of a larger area.

Demographics

Population

The D.U.F.E.S Census Bureau reported an estimated population of 5 580 963 082 in 1791 A.F.E, making it have a higher population than any country of earth. The country has a net gain of about one person every 20 seconds, or about 4,320 people per day. In 1787 A.F.E , Eralitia had a life expectancy of 82.3 for women and 77.3 for men. In 1789 A.F.E, the total fertility rate for Eralitia stood at 2.3 births per women. In 1789 A.F.E, 48% of Eralitians over the age of 15 are married, 4% are widowed, 12% divorced, and 36% have never been married.

Eralitia has a non-diverse population, 94,2% of their population would have Japanese ancestory, if the country exists on Earth. The other 5,8% would be either from French (2,4%) or British (3,4%) ancestory. Most of the would-be French population lives in the state of Mokano. In 1790 A.F.E, the median age of the Eralitian population was 32.3 years.

Language

Eralitia has three official languages, English, Japanese, and French. 91,6% of the population speaks at least English and Japanese. All schools are required by law to teach English and Japanese, with French being an optional subject in most states. In the state of Mokano, schools are required by law to teach their students French. 75,3% of the population speaks only English and Japanese, whilst 16,3% of the population speaks all three. 4,5% only speaks Japanese, 2,7% only English, and 0,9% only French.

Besides English, Japanese, and French, Eralitia has many other languages, spoken by small groups of people. According to census, only 0,3% of the population speaks a language besides English, Japanese, and French.

Urbanisation

About 73% of Eralitians live in urban areas, about a third of those reside in settlements with a population over 100 000, which is the minimum requirement for being considered a city in Eralitia.

Education

Children in Eralitia are required to attend school from age five or six at a primary school. At age eleven or twelve, children start attending middle school, and at fifteen or sixteen, they'll start attending high school, where they graduate at age nineteen or twenty. After the required fifteen years of school, people can seek higher education.

As is the case on Earth, association football is the most popular sport in Eralitia. The main league system is the Eralitian Soccer League.
