Sporting Ennistymon F.C is an Irish association football club based in Ennistymon, Clare. The club plays matches in Lahinch Sportsfield, Lee's Road Astro and Mullagh Sportsfield and their men's team compete in the Clare District Soccer League while thier underage contest in the Clare Schoolboys/Girls Soccer League. During their short history Sporting Ennistymon have entered teams in the FAI Junior Cup and the FAI Youth Cup and Munster Junior Cup.

Ennistymon’s history with soccer can be traced back to 1971. For three seasons Ennistymon United competed in the Clare District Soccer League playing their home games in Lahinch Sportsfield. In 1974 a 1st Division play-off game was due to be played but had to be postponed from the 11a.m scheduled time to 4pm(as two GAA challenge games had been arranged)Ennistymon United were subsequently expelled from the Clare District Soccer League because of this incident.
Ballyea United(made up almost exclusively of Ennistymon players)played in a farmers field a few miles outside of Ennistymon for a few more years in the 1970's.
For four years in the eighties eight to nine players travelled outside their community each week to play their soccer with Lifford FC in Ennis as no field was available to them in the area.
When Lahinch Sportsfield was made available again in 1986 Ennistymon Celtic was founded and enjoyed a successful life of ten years.[1]
Founding of Sporting Ennistymon F.C edit
The present club Sporting Ennistymon came into being on the 4th May 2008 when the adult section Ennistymon Town (founded 2004) merged with the local schoolboy section to form one club. This new club was launched by John Delaney of the FAI at the Falls Hotel Ennistymon. Before a large audience, Mr. Delaney wished the club every success in providing the Ennistymon, Lahinch and wider North/West Clare Community with a sporting and social outlet. The men's First team experienced great success gaining automatic passage to the First Division in the 2012/2013 season.[2][3] In the same season, to cope with the ever growing demand of players, Sporting Ennistymon established a B team. In their first year, the B team finished 4th, just missing out on a Play-off spot.[4] The first team went on to finish 3rd the following year and won promotion to the Premier Division in the 14/15 season. They lost to Avenue United B in the First Division title play-off.
Recent Years edit
In recent years Sporting Ennistymon have went from strength to strength collecting many various honours, including 2 Munster Junior Cup-Clare area cups, a Hugh Kelly Premier Division Cup and advancing to the last 16 of the Munster Junior Cup (losing out to eventual winners Pike Rovers). The club has also had great success at underage, most notably winning the last competitive Under 12 Division 1 and also Under 12 Cup in 2015. The clubs U16's team nearly clinched back to back titles in the 2017/18 season. Tied at the top of the first division, they had to play Newmarket Celtic in a play-off to determine the league winners. The Men's B team won passage to the 2nd Division in the 2017/18 season after finishing 3rd and receiving automatic promotion, beating Inch Crusaders 5-1 on the last day of the season.[5][6]
