Hi V8rik, there is an error with the arrow pushing in your mechanism for the Strecker Synthesis, the arrow pushes the wrong way in the second step of part one (going towards a negative charge). As you originally poste dthe picture I thought I would let you know as you might be able to edit it.

Many Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.69.18 (talk) 21:39, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi V8rik, please could you delete Image:Foodflavors.png (or give me the permission to do that). The right structure is wrong and I will replace both structures. Thanks, Сасусlе 21:25, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Сасусlе, no I have made the mess so I should clean it up, will the new image work for you ?(Maillard reaction) V8rik (talk) 21:47, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

We do no longer need this image, see 6-Acetyl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydropyridine, 2-Acetyl-1-pyrroline, and Maillard_reaction. Сасусlе 22:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Repeat references

edit

Do you know of a better way to add <ref>reference</ref> to the same reference in the same article without the References section below repeating the entire reference in full - as happended here? Thanks. Fireproeng (talk) 20:50, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

  • yes, what you is make a ref like [1] with added to the first ref a name for the ref. and then for the second ref simply repeat the name inside a ref tag [1] (see this in edit mode) V8rik (talk) 21:05, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

GA or FA articles

edit

I know from your edits and discussion associated with Biofuel and Ethanol fuel that you have considerable experience in working on B class articles. But could I gently ask please about your experience in bringing articles up to the WP:GA or WP:FA level? I would like to look at your GA/FA articles so I can gain more confidence in you as an editor. Johnfos (talk) 00:30, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

  • so I am just a B-editor then? Check out: Aldol addition and Lead(II) nitrate (active participant). I consider organic chemistry my core business. The biofuel editing I do as a public service. As always in wiki if people take the fun out of it then I will simple cease my collaboration, take it or leave it V8rik (talk) 16:33, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Baeyer-Drewson indigo synthesis

Thanks for the help!! I wanted to do the picture but had no time. I will add something to the indigo page which is short in chemical issues.--Stone (talk) 17:43, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

organometallic articles

edit

I am going through what we have in wiki chemicals wise on organometallics for linking to Chemspider. We don't have that many articles! On the other hand your overview articles are excellent and give Wikipedia good coverage of the subject. I also like the periodic table template for linking to other organo-articles. --Axiosaurus (talk) 18:57, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your comment, that periodic table is one of my long-term projects, I agree many articles still need to be written. V8rik (talk) 15:46, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Eennl.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Eennl.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Ebullioscope

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Ebullioscope, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Ebullioscope. Eltekoff reaction

edit

Never heard of it, but some russians have it on their name reaction list! [www.chem.isu.ru/leos/base/name/name08.html] --Stone (talk) 20:56, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the link, google shows mainly wiki mirrors of the chemical reaction list (so basically nothing). The reaction depicted by the Russians I am unable to fit in with other wiki articles (what mechanism?). If you feel it should be in the list I will put it back but as far as I am concerned it will stay redlinked forever. V8rik (talk) 21:06, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I was courious what chemical reaction this might be, but I think there are more important ones. So lets leave it out untill somebody is really adding an article on the reaction.--Stone (talk) 08:57, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Hydrosilylation

edit

I created a short article on hydrosilylation, switching out one of the redirects within organosilicon chemistry. It's at an early stage but I hope to add more content, mainly for the reactions of alkenes, which is what I know more. If you see issues, please let me know. Best wishes,--Smokefoot (talk) 19:19, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Smokefoot, the new article looks great, I will link to it from organosilicon V8rik (talk) 19:40, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:-10-annulene.gif

edit

A tag has been placed on Image:-10-annulene.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:-10-annulene.gif|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Elastomers Category

edit

Any particular reason you replaced the category "Polymers" with "Polymer Physics" in the elastomers article? Why not both? Plus - there is a lot of curing references in the article which a polymer physicist would not be interested in. Delmlsfan (talk) 21:40, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Delmlsfan, I am reasoning that the polymers category is reserved for actual polymers and the polymer physics category reserved for general concepts. Elastomers are a type of polymer that share a physical property. I can live with placement in both categories or even placement in categories polymers and polymer chemistry V8rik (talk) 21:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Benzyne conversion

edit

V8rik

I made an adaptation of your Benzyne conversion image - see:

  • blue = unscrambled position
  • red = scrambled position
  • purple = considering both positions together/cross-over product.

If you think this adaptation is not distinct enough/too close to your original image then let me know and I'll delete it.

If you are OK with it, I will add it to the Isotopic_labeling page. The idea was to show how the carbon labels get where they do. I need to edit the summary of the image to explain colours, but will wait for your OK first.

Biocatalysis.

edit
  The E=mc² Barnstar
Hi V8rik. Today we had a lecture by Nicholas Turner, talking about deracemisation by enzymes etc. At a certain point he showed the wikipedia page Biocatalysis, which refers to him. He had no clue who made that edit etc. That information was added by you. There was a bit of a laugh, on the copy he showed there was a typo (there is written emzyme i.s.o. enzyme). (It has been repaired, 9 minutes after the talk finished by someone in Cardiff University). This barnstar is to give you the recognition that you deserve for this edit! Dirk Beetstra T C 14:21, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks!. I feel proud. V8rik (talk) 18:22, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I have noticed in this reaction scheme, in the formula of trimethyl orthoformate you had lost "3" in the subscript index. I think it should be easy for you to correct it using the source chemical file. BTW, the SVG file is in Commons now, too, Regards, Michał Sobkowski (talk) 20:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks Michał, for pointing out the missing subscript, I will take of the image right away. V8rik (talk) 17:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Persistent carbene article

edit

Hi V8rik, Quantockgoblin has suggested I get onto you, as you seemed to have had major input. I'm going to edit the article to have a standard US/UK English variant, as well as give it a good going over with a fresh pair of eyes. Etiquette dictates that it remain in the first variant, and it looks like you were early on it- what's your preference/suggestion? Freestyle-69 (talk) 06:06, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

  • I did some edits in this article but some unknown user (IP address only) actually wrote the bulk of the article that started out as part of the carbene article (later on a separate article was created). See for example this old edit http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Carbene&oldid=69046626. So by all means edit the article as you like! I can volunteer to redo the periodic table bit if that helps. I am not sure what you mean with the US/UK variant but if you mean with that the flavour of spelling I have no preference. English is my second language and I never understand what the fuss is about. There is a set of rules somewhere to deal with these issues. V8rik (talk) 16:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

You created the article so I wanted to ask if we can move it to Wolffenstein-Böters reaction with a redirect from Wolffenstein-Boters reaction? The second F in Wolfenstein we need anyway! Thanks --Stone (talk) 07:51, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Sure, no problem in fact I took care of it already. V8rik (talk) 18:50, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Direct process

edit

Hi, we are at it again, an article is being readied on the direct process (Si + MeCl). I was thinking of recommending that this thing go into organosilicon chemistry, what do you think vs stand alone? Another article will be a short overview of trans-spanning ligands (we did SPANPHOS recently) in chelation.--Smokefoot (talk) 04:22, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Smokefoot, If you feel the new material belongs in organosilicon chemistry then organosilicon chemistry it is! I am looking forward to this addition. V8rik (talk) 21:35, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok V8rik, we'll see how this article on the Direct process goes, the redlink will go blue some time this week, I hope. BTW, nice work on organoCr (and other sites); if you get a chance you might tweak the Ph on the carbyne.--Smokefoot (talk) 16:35, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
  • happy editing and I will take care of the carbyne image this evening (I knew I was getting in trouble with that one.......) V8rik (talk) 16:40, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Polyphenylchromium compounds

edit

What is missing from Organochromium chemistry and also Franz Hein is the actual nature of the compounds made by Hein. As I recall they were shown to be sandwich compounds with polycyclic aromatics. For example, triphenylchromium was a sandwich with naphthalene and benzene. Petergans (talk) 20:59, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
