History
editKarikku had its origin in 2016 when Nikhil Prasad, a media personality,[2] started a Facebook page where he uploaded self-made videos.[3] In 2017, he shifted to YouTube platform and a year later, gathered a group of youngsters viz. Sabareesh Sajjin,[4] Anu K. Aniyan,[5][6] Anand Mathews,[7] Binoy John,[8] Jeevan Mammen Stephen,[9] Kiran Viyyath, Unni Mathews[10] and Arjun Ratan,[11] to introduce the channel's first web series, FIFA World Cup 2018, which was based on the football world cup, featuring characters representing soccer players such as Neymar, Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Thomas Muller and Harry Kane.[12] The next web series, Thera Para, also featured the same characters created for the earlier series[13] and the series became the first super hit web series in Malayalam language.[11] The channel, in between various web series productions, also produces stand alone videos[14] and celebrities such as Tovino Thomas, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sajna Sudheer have featured in its productions.[15] It also participates in socio-cultural events and their workshop, Story Telling On Youtube, was a featured event on the second day of the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters, organized by Mathrubhumi at Thiruvananthapuram from January 31 to February 3, 2019.[16][17][18] NoxInfluencer, a YouTube analytical service, has rated the channel among the top 1 per cent, both nationally and globally.[19]
