Dulal Roy Dulal Roy (born December 12, 1943) is an influential Indian theatre personality, credited to have initiated the world of modernity into Assamese theatre. Early life and education edit

Son of Late Tarani Kanta Roy, he was born in Sorbhog, Barpeta District, Assam,<http://www.tribuneindia.com/2009/20090830/main8.htm> and did his schooling from Sonaram School and Cotton Collegiate Higher Secondary School, Guwahati. A student of Cotton College, Guwahati, Shri Roy completed his graduation in theatre direction from National School of Drama, New Delhi in 1966 and a diploma in film and editing in 1970 from Film and Televison Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

Career edit

He graduated from the National School of Drama, New Delhi in 1966 and two years later in 1968, Shri Roy took admission in Film and Televison Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and got a diploma in film and editing in 1970. His close association in editing with Rajinder Singh Bedi, Asit Sen and Hrishikesh Mukherjee for their memorable films Dastak, Safar, Anand and Budha Mil Gaya, endured with mutual respect and good will till today. Shri Roy was associated with Sangeet Natak Akademi as Executive member, Planning and Theater Committee Member in the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and as an Expert Member in National School of Drama, New Delhi.

Awards and recognition edit

He has also been awarded by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in Direction (1998)[1]
