The Demosphere is the gross sum of all political or public discourse, expressed in the media, online, and within local and global institutions. The modern concept was defined by Jordan Schroder, but he was not the first person to use the word.

Origins

edit

Demosphere first appears in a short cyberpunk story by science fiction writer Neal Stephenson. In his story, a futuristic version of the internet called the "Spew," is where all global information and media channels are bound together. Consumer trends are tracked from inside the 'Demotainment Space' or Demosphere, a virtual reality representation of the Spew, using all sorts of personal digital information, including credit card transactions and security camera feeds.
