There are x school districs on Long Island, New York. Most are governed by a Superintendent and a Board of Education, the latter voted on by district residents. Nassau County is also home to the three high school districts in New York, which as predicted, consist of high schools. Prior to the 1970s,[citation needed] school districts were referred to by a number. Known numbers are denoted in the notes section of the following table.
