Jacob Krueger is an Award-Winning screenwriter, director, producer and playwright. He won the Writers Guild of America Paul Selvin Award[1] and was nominated for the Gemini Award for Best Screenplay[2], both for his work on The Matthew Shepard Story. He is the founder of Jacob Krueger Studio in New York City.

Biography

Jacob Krueger has been in the screenwriting and film industry for many years now. The Matthew Shepard Story (2002) was his first produced movie and won him the Writer's Guild of America Paul Selvin Award and a Gemini Award Nomination for Best Screenplay. Directed by Roger Spottiswoode (And The Band Played On) and produced by Goldie Hawn, The Matthew Shepard Story told the story of gay hate-crime victim Matthew Shepard. Stockard Channing, who played Judy Shepard, Matthew Shepard’s mom, won a Screen Actors Guild Award and her first Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Sam Waterston, who played Dennis Shepard, Matthew’s dad, a Gemini Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Jacob has also collaborated with several Tony Award winning composers, including Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg (Les Miserable, Miss Saigon) and with four-time Academy Award Composer Michel Legrand (Yentl, The Thomas Crown Affair), on their original musicals.

Before focusing on his writing and directing career, Jacob was an executive and the youngest person to possess the title of Story Editor at Alliance Atlantis Entertainment. For four years, he wrote over thirty original treatments, which sold to many major networks, and worked closely with other writers to develop an entire slate of TV Movies and Miniseries. These projects included Crossed Over (starring Diane Keaton), miniseries The Salem Witch Trials and Joan of Arc (nominated for 11 Emmy Awards).

Jacob is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Four Chairs Theatre Company and a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab. His most recent theater productions include the critically-acclaimed off-Broadway production of What To Do When You Hate All Your Friends (Theatre Row, 2008), A Guy Adrift In the Universe (Payan Theatre, April 2007) and a new interpretation of The Sound Of A Voice by David Henry Hwang (Whitmore Theatre, May 2005).

Jacob Krueger graduated Summa Cum Laude from Dartmouth College in 1997. A Presidential Scholar in Creative Writing, his mentors include notable names such as Peter Parnell (The Cider House Rules, QED, The West Wing) and Bill Philips (Christine, Seduction In A Small Town) and acclaimed set designer Georgi Alexi Meskhishvili.

Jacob Krueger Studio was founded by Jacob Krueger in 2004 in New York City. Rather than imposing external formulas upon students’ writing, the studio seeks to help them discover their own voices and develop their screenplays in an organic way through Seven Act Structure.

NYC and Online Classes

Jacob Krueger Studio offers classes and Script Consultations in New York City and in a Live Online Format, including Screenwriting Classes at all levels, Seven Act Structure Seminars, Writing For Actors, Year Long Master Classes, and a Professional Screenwriting Laboratory for industry professionals.

Personal Training for Screenwriters and Novelists

The studio also offers a weekly Personal Training program to help writers break through writers block and procrastination. Based on the same model as personal training at the gym, the program assumes that students get the most out of their writing when they have a trained professional to keep them accountable and give provide consistent feedback on their writing. Available on a subscription basis, personal training provides students with weekly one-on-one sessions with professional Jacob Krueger Studio writing coaches. Personal training is also included in many Jacob Krueger Studio Online Classes.

Retreats

Jacob Krueger Studio offers yearly screenwriting retreats in locations such as Bali & Costa Rica. The all-inclusive retreats provide students with 5-20 days of daily instruction by Jacob Krueger and his staff, as well as the rare opportunity to focus entirely on their writing, among a small community of like-minded writers.

Screenwriting Fellowship

The Jacob Krueger Studio Screenwriting Fellowship is a free screenwriting competition that provides a full scholarship to the Jacob Krueger Studio retreat for one emerging screenwriter.

Cold Cuts Reading Series

The Cold Cuts Reading Series provides Jacob Krueger Studio students with a unique opportunity to hear their work performed by trained actors in New York City. Cold Cuts is free to the public and to all students, and is held the first Thursday of each month at Culturefix, 9 Clinton St. New York, NY.
